    Hi Ladies,
This is what I have done to get ready so far.

    2) Bought the required Vitamin supplements recommended by my bariatric team for the 1st two months after surgery.
    3) Purchased Premiere Protein for my Liquid Protein supplement for after surgery
    4) Purchased a small single serve blender "Ninga Bullet" to help me with making my shakes yummy and my pureed food yummy (I'm hoping)
    5) I'm telling my office on Oct 19th that I will be having surgery on the 10th of November
    6) Joined a very local WLS group so I can connect with people in person. I think I am going to initiate some group walk events so we can meet outside safely. We are in a rural area so that will be easy for us.

    Hi Everyone,
My surgery is on Nov. 10th and I have started my liquid diet. It's Day 2 and I never though I would get through Day 1 without eating my arm off! I was sooooooo hungry. I had a headache (I took tylenol) and I went to bed early to try and sleep through the hunger. I don't know how many times I opened the fridge door and stared inside. The funny thing is there is next to no food in there but ...........mannn.......I could have eaten anything!
I'm glad Day 1 is over with. I've had my first shake this morning and I'm drinking coffee and Water. I am currently working from home because of the pandemic. I'm trying to keep my mind on my work but as you can see I'm here and sharing. I'm sure today will be easier than yesterday.
I'm sending positive vibes out to all of you...wherever you are in your journey. Be kind to yourself!

I'm pre-op as well and I feel like I have been working on coping mechanisms for quite a few years now as I became more and more aware of how I am a sugar addict/compulsive overeater.
I don't go to OA now but I have gone many times in past years. Friends from OA taught me how to use things other than food to help me cope like:
Calling a friend, going for a walk, journal, praying/meditation, quilting. I would say journaling has been my biggest help. When I didn't know what to write I either just put my pen to paper and kept writing anything for 15 minutes. Even if I wrote the same word &uck 1000 times I always felt better afterword. You could write a gratitude list or.......write about an issue that's been bothering you. You can burn it afterwords. No one has to see it.
Another thing is to write a letter to yourself but do it from the perspective of a good friend. In other words a good friend would be kind, forgiving, loving and caring. She/he would want to take care of you.
    Best wishes on your journey.

So! Today I got the Bariatric hot chocolate in and OMG I love it!! It has Protein in it and I'm not getting near the protein that I am needing because if lactose intolerance and issues with the Protein Shakes. So I'm one happy chick today!! So glad to get something to get my protein intake up! Also got some of the protein soups! Excited to try one of those for lunch later!!

Ok, so this is probably not what you want to hear but ...
When you had your surgery, most of the area within your stomach that produces the ‘I’m hungry’ hormone, ghrelin, is removed. Small amounts can be produced in the brain, pancreas & small intestines. So while some of the hunger you are experiencing may be real, most of it is likely head hunger.
You’ve been on a liquid diet for weeks & consciously or subconsciously you’re probably bored & wanting some solid food & the foods you always used to eat. You’re also coming to terms with smaller portions, eating slowly & less frequently. Your head is saying to you: this isn’t enough food for me I need more. Plus this has all been very stressful. Prepping for the surgery, the surgery itself, the change to your diet, etc. & many of us turn to food when we’re stressed or emotional. This is all head hunger not real hunger.
This is some of the hard work you have to do. Understanding your hunger - why you eat, when you eat, what you eat - is important to your success. But you can do it. It will get better & easier. Just give yourself time to come to terms with it all & what it means for you.
It’s going to be soooo worth it. Good luck.
BTW - Protein reduces the production of ghrelin - another reason why you need to work at reaching your protein goals each day.

    Hiya!
My surgery is November 10th and I started my journey in August of 2019. I can't believe it's (surgery) is finally getting close! I start my liquid diet 3 weeks prior to surgery so on October 19th. I'm prepped and ready to go. It has been an extensive process to get to this point. I'm in Canada so things are a bit different here than in the states. I wish you the best of luck on your journey!

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful replies.
I told my Dad last night over a cup of coffee (decalf LOL) and he was very supportive. He asked a lot of questions and I answered them to the best of my ability. I explained to him why I hadn't told him sooner and he accepted that. He said he would support me in anything I wanted to do. He understood my feelings and he is very happy for me. My Dad is 80 and my Mom passed away in March of this year. I didn't want to worry him. We had a bit of a cry and quite a few hugs. All in all it went very well.
This is a great group. Thanks for your help and support.

Today I’m 2 months post op and I finally hit 199.4! I had my surgery on 08/27/2020. I’ve been a slower looser but wow, seeing that number felt so good.

I’m 5’8 1/2 and 43 years old. I also have Hashimoto’s (thyroid disease) and have struggled with my weight for more than 15 years.

In January of this year I started the long process with my insurance to get approved. My highest weight was #252. My BMI at that time was 38. I have comorbidities - sleep apnea & fatty liver

My insurance BCBS of Michigan required that I do the supervised nutrition for 6 months. My insurance used the weight I started at when I entered the program.

Prior to starting the two week pre-op diet (so mid August) I weighed #236. I lost 10-11 lbs doing the liquid diet pre op.

My surgery weight (8/27/2020) was #226 which I believe put me at a BMI of about 34 ish.

And today I’m officially #199.4! I am no longer morbidly obese, just “over weight”. 😂

I’ve also done something I’ve never done before- I finally enjoy exercise. I bought a Peloton bike to help me on my journey and it arrived 9/14 and I’ve been using it 6 times a week since I got it. I LOVE it, it’s so motivational. This bike/exercise might be transfer addiction but I’m totally ok with that. There is a very large weight loss community on Peloton. Many have done WLS.

So while I might not be loosing weight at a rapid pace, I’ve definitely gained muscle and have toned areas of my body.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to this group. Your posts have guided me through this journey.

And as my favorite instructor says: you are bigger than a smaller pair of pants. Your worth is so much greater!

    Good Morning,
It does sound like quite a journey already for you! I'm sorry that you have had such trouble with eating but I'm glad your Doctor is taking good care of you. I don't have any advice because I'm pre-op but I'm just wishing you a speedy recovery. I know it must be hard being at work with little or next to no energy. ~Hugs~ I hope things get much better very soon.
