  1. Hang in there. You are doing it for YOU! My sons were not supportive until I started losing weight. I didn't tell my Mom and have no intentions of telling her. I will get the same crap. I know I am a big girl now and I am responsible for what I put in my mouth but my obesity started because of my parents! At a young age they gave me a bowl of ice cream every night. Cookies, cakes, potatoes chip were plentiful in our house. Therefore she has no right to say anything. Even though I am overweight my kids never were allowed to get out of control. Sweets were the exception, a treat not an everyday occurrence. Change the subject if your Mom starts up on you or end the call if she wont stop. You don't need the aggravation. Good luck!
  2. You have to follow what your doctor says. If you are having problems speak to him. You are definitely not allow anything but clear liquids 48 hours before surgery. You can do this. Good luck
  3. I cut mine with a knife into small peices that I take with many sips of water. It works but takes a long time. Good luck!
  4. Jacquie, you look MARVELOUS! That should motivate all of us!!
  5. Could it be an allergy to the protein drinks? You could be allergic to whey or soy. Good luck.
  6. I think they mean liquid ounces not weight. My sheet talke's about egg beaters in ounces and I am pretty sure they mean a measuring cup. I can't wait to get to the mushies next week!
  7. Yiya ( grandma in greek??) Sorry to hear you had some problems. Are you felling better? I am doing great with very little pain. I am having trouble getting in all my liquids which is why I think I have no energy. I move to mushies 9/2. I am not really hungry but I am hoping real food will take away the tiredness.
  8. I had my surgery done by Dr Liu and love him! It was as close to painless as it could be. I, however, went through California Bariatric for the appointment. I got it immediately. You can call them at 562 924 3301 (they do have an 800# but I cant find it, sorry) Tell them you want to speak to Brandon and was refereed by Diane in Apple Valley. Explain that you want Dr Liu. CA Bariatric was very helpful dealing with my insurance, getting the nutritionist, and psychologist exam done quickly, Good luck and let me know how you make out.
  9. oops for got to tell you my bmi was 39.2 and they want 40. Stupid huh?
  10. I have horizon bc/bs (and I mean BS) of NJ too. After 6 weeks they came back to me and said I needed the 6 month diet too. Like you I was not officially denied. Even though the doctor had submitted all my info regarding co-morbs, I wrote an appeal letter. Thank goodness I am a pack rat. I sent them records of my years on and off with Jenny Craig plus my PC doctor gave me copies of my records for the last three years showing how my weight yo-yo and my health declined. I faxed volumes of paper to them and 3 days later I was approved. Good luck and keep fighting!
  11. 10 down is better than 10 up!! What are you eating and drinking? Good luck and dont give up!

LOL Love it! To bad it is true!
  13. I had surgery at 9:45 and released at 1:30pm. I live 2 hours from the surgery center so I went to my son's house which is only a half hour away. I sleep there for a while before we head home. It was not bad at all.
  14. GasX strips, liquid Tylenol week 1&2 drinks as suggested by your doctor. Congratulations and good luck!
  15. I was banded on 8/22 and am happy to say everything went well! I have had very little pain. I am still tired but know that will pass when I get more nutrition. Right now I am on protein shakes and liquids. I am so thirsty. I really want a long drink of water but have been good sipping. When I have swallowed too much I get minor discomfort. Since I seem to fill up quickly I am finding it hard to get enough water and shakes in. Any suggestions? How long do you go between sips? Thank you.
  16. Good luck tomorrow! I am sure your doctor will give you a list of what to eat. Before you go "under" make sure you ask him. I have found each doctor has a different diet. Mine had me on clear fluids for 2 days after and then introduced protein drinks and other liquids for the next 2 weeks.
  17. Hi, I was banded on the 22nd also! Glad you are doing pretty good. I am doing fine. Last night I was able to sleep on my side so I got a pretty good nights sleep. So far my gas problems have not been painful but I definitely have gas escaping! I have used the gasx strips. Not sure if they help but as long as I have no pain it is okay. I do not have much pain. Liquid Tylenol takes care of it. I do have however a swollen gland in the right side of my neck. I will call the doctor about that tomorrow. All in all doing well and glad you are too!
  18. Hope you are in bed as I write this! I have to be there at 7:30 and my ride is about 2 hrs. I am driving to my son's house and he is taking me there and home. I still am not done with everything I want to get done. I have about 2 hrs left. Hope all goes well for all of us.:cursing:
  19. Thank you so much! For any one out there not band yet a piece of advice for you... clean your house and do laundry before you start clear liquids! I waited till last minute and I am dragging my butt trying to get it done. I wouldnt care so much except my son and daughter-in-law are coming to help out this weekend and the house needs cleaning. See you all on the other side Saturday. Good luck to everyone.
  20. My understand is yes you can have an occasional drink. It will hit you harder than before the band and yes it is empty calories. Just no beer or carbonated drinks.
  21. Hi everyone! The 22nd is my day too! I am very excited. I am on clear liquids today and tomorrow. I am not really hungry but I am very tired and weak. I must get up strength to clean my house tomorrow! I can wait to hear how everyone is doing! Good luck!
  22. Hi, I started reading about it over a year ago. As others have suggested I read everything I could on the internet. I spent hours here reading the good the band and the ugly! You can search subject at the top of the page. When I was pretty sure I wanted to go through with it I asked my cardiologist. He was very much for it but stressed that my life style must change in order to have it work. That it is a very good tool. I then asked my OB/GYN and he too was very supportive and told me it would be great for me. After that I just went for it! Friday is the day! Good luck!
  23. I love the spoon idea with his/her birthday on it. Great motivational tool!! Best of luck! Now I have to pick my name and do the same.
  24. Way to go Mom, best of luck and let us know how you feel. I am right behind you on Friday and very excited, anxious and a tiny bit scared!
  25. Wendell, you are my hero! :tongue2: Congrats on your weight loss! I too fee the lap band is a much healthier way to go than bp.
