Psych Test -did u have to take one?
The Greater Fool replied to danahall5885's topic in Insurance & Financing
I actually don't recall my psych evaluation. My journal says I was worried about it, but it was basically a question and answer session where the shrink would ask a question then give a sense of the type of answer he was looking for. He said I was good to go for surgery. I fooled him completely Tek -
Welcome to the forums. Whatever decision you make, be sure you understand the surgery and the pre and post op plans. This is critical to your success. Enjoy your ride. Tek

1 week post surgery and I haven’t lost any weight?

The scale will lie to you. Get rid of it. Keep to your plan and you will succeed, scale or no. Good luck, Tek -
gastric bypass more effective?
The Greater Fool replied to dal101's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If you are focused on losing x pounds per month, you will be disappointed. Not because it will or won't happen, but it won't happen every month. Or, you won't lose weight for a week, or two. What are you going to do when the scale doesn't show weight loss? What is it going to do to your plan? Think these things through. Unrealistic expectations will destroy your program quicker than anything else. You get a bad number on the scale, then start searching for NEW ways to get it moving again. This is the path to failure. WLS is the time to take the story of the turtle and the hare to heart. Your plan, slow and steady, wins this race. Good Luck, Tek -
Having lower Protein per day
The Greater Fool replied to dal101's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Different Surgeons have different ideas. Generally they work out with similar results. I think the main point is follow a plan. It's the folks that think they know better that run into problems later, IMHO. You have a lot of research to do. Everyone has an opinion. Many of us have several. Opinions don't lose weight. Good luck Tek -
regaining and undoing their surgery
The Greater Fool replied to dal101's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There are ways to eat around every surgery. If you want to, or feel compelled to, it can be done. I was afraid I might try to do this and chose my surgery accordingly. For me, it took amazingly few bouts of dumping and few episodes of eating wrong to change my habits. I don't know why I learned my lessons when others didn't. I guess I was lucky. Choose carefully. Act wisely. Then hope you don't persist in trying to do it wrong. Good luck Tek -
Pretty much the point. NSAIDs and other meds depend on our situations in consultation with our Docs. All meds have side effects. I also am on watch for side effects of several meds.

I take NSAIDs. Every surgeon has different takes on meds.

Not Having Support
The Greater Fool replied to root718's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Welcome to the forums. You are upsetting the established balance in your relationships. If/when you change some of your relationships will change for the better, others not so much. Eventually, a new equilibrium will be reached. Change is hard not only on you, the author of your change, but on everyone around you. Having said all that, you must take care of you first. Learn everything there is about your surgical options, learn what the after care and diet plan look like. Don't take anything for granted. If you don't know the answer before hand, find it. Learn it. Prepare for it. When the going get's tough you should already know what to do, your Doc's plan, and follow it. There are a lot of 'experts' who have been through all this. Listen with a huge grain of salt. Their way MAY have worked for them, but you have to make YOUR way work. It's up to you. Not us. We have no skin in your game. You can do it. Good luck, Tek -
I assume you are early post-op? There are some meds some Docs prefer post-ops avoid. You should contact your Doc to see his thoughts. My Doc had not medication restrictions, other Docs have long lists of don'ts. Ask enough of us, you'll get every possible answer, which is why you should talk to your Doc. I was be EXTREMELY cautious of lozenges, as accidentally swallowing one could land you in surgery. Good luck, Tek

Arabesque (love the name) made all the points I would have made, probably better. Damn her. Probably the most important point, which I will underscore, is if you can't manage or are having concerns, talk to you Doc. We don't know your plan, we don't know the little personal touches your Doc did in your surgery. We are voices on the interwebs. If changes need to be made, they need to be made in concert with your Doc, not our wild arse ideas. You can do this. Don't be shy about advocating for yourself with your Doc. Good luck, Tek

Welcome to the forums. Anxiety & excitement are effectively different names for a similar set of feelings. Or so I tell myself Anxiety & excitement are rational emotions when facing a surgery, any surgery. Even more so when the surgery is possibly life changing, as this surgery is. Nothing you do, aside from backing out, will change the fact that you are having surgery. You've already thought it through, so trust yourself. Look beyond the surgery to where your emotional energy may have a positive effect. Good luck, Tek

Hit goal today! (Loose skin pics)
The Greater Fool replied to ChubRub's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! Good luck on your PS. Tek -
You are still pretty recently post-op. You may feel better, but your body is still working to heal on less resources. Be patient with yourself. Do what you can, don't do what you can't. It will get better. Good luck, Tek

I'm betting that while the portion size may be smaller, I don't recall them being as small as a 2 month post-op would eat. More to point, though, is the content. The protein to other ratio that I recall would not be appropriate for my plan. Unless you intend to eat NutriSystem forever, best to learn to do it yourself, now. Good luck, Tek

OK, carp. It might be time to start looking for zebras (less obvious alternatives). Any skin issues? Pain? Allergies? Fever? Have you done a detailed food log? Perhaps you can relate issues to foods. I also have such symptoms when I have a psoriatic arthritis flair. It's autoimmune. There are a variety of them that can cause such symptoms. Could it be related to stress? Stress does this to me sometimes. Keep trying. Your wits are longer than you think Tek

Welcome to the forums, Is it possible you have some sort of bug? Your symptoms sound like my version of the flu. Dry heaves are my version of throwing up. The other symptoms fit. Could also be symptoms of some autoimmune things, but I'd go with bug initially. It may just run it's course over 7-10 days. I'm not a doctor, just a voice on the interwebs, so follow your Doc's advice. If you not happy, keep pushing, be your own advocate. Good luck, Tek

Hello and welcome. Is this an issue since surgery, or before also? Can you share details of your situation? I have had low testosterone my whole life, treat for a while about 25 years ago then faded off it. I don't remember much about it. Tek

Gastric Sleeve Versus The Gastric Bypass Surgery
The Greater Fool replied to Numbheart's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeve is restrictive, but everything is intact. So, you can eat pretty much all foods, meds work as they do normally. Bypass bypasses the pyloric valve and a small amount of intestines, creating malabsorption. Thus, anything you eat goes directly into your intestines. Sugar or Fat may cause 'dumping' syndrome which is unpleasant. Time release meds MAY need adjusting. I wanted dumping because I wanted to be forced into changing my habits. It worked. I've managed to stay more or less on plan to this day. Sugar & fat make appearances, but in vastly reduced quantity. Some folks think restriction is enough and more power to them. I chose RNY because I found myself thinking I could return to old eating habits if I chose with other surgeries. I didn't trust that I could not stay on plan without some 'adjustments' the RNY would provide. Good luck. Tek -

No weight loss
The Greater Fool replied to salasmarlene02@gmail.com's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
You seem to be doing great. The scale is the devil. It will lie to you. The fear that "this won't/isn't working" is a big one that most of us have faced. It will work for you if you work for it. It's a team effort, your part is to follow your plan. Keep up the good work, kill the scale. Good luck, Tek -
Congratulations. You are actually a fine example of how to make things work. You had issues that it took several tries to come up with a working solution. You kept trying rather than just complaining about them. More issues will present and you will work through them just as you did your meds. Again, great job. Tek

Heart palpitations, dehydrated or naughty eating habit?
The Greater Fool replied to Kristi schumann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It just occurred to me. Palpitations is a symptom of dumping. You're not doing sugar or fat before the palpitations start (30-60 minutes)? You don't mention your surgery type. Dumping is more likely with RNY, but it can happen with the Sleeve. Just a thought. Tek
