  1. Hey everyone, Happy Holidays. Sorry to see everyone is struggling. UGH i am too. This time of yr is really hard. I made a goal to lose 40 lbs for Thanksgiving and I came really close. I was at like 38. Someone at work told me to load up on Activia and be done with it.. LOL Well I saw my family for the first time since surgery and EVERYONE noticed. I've dropped down two sizes and even that size is loose! :tt1:

    But that's about it, it's all gone downhill since there.. The holidays are stressing me out, ok maybe it's just my in-laws but I find myself eating. Eating a lot and all the wrong things. I'm going food shopping and determined to lose the 7lbs I've gained by new yr.

    Paige you cracked me up with your scale story. I thought I was the only one that thought a warped floor MIGHT be the cause for my weight gain! LMAO

    Heidi, I too am making a ton of excuses. Easy to do when you are exhausted with kids and the last thing you want to do is exercise. I hope to join a gym in Jan. I'm at 4 cc's and can eat ANYTHING, had one moment this morning, where my toast just didn't want to move, no pain or anything but it did and all is fine I should call and schedule another fill soon.

    Oh yes, excuses, excuses, that's me. LOL! The 3 kids are the # one reason I don't work out but they should be the # one reason I do! Anyway, I've been doing low carb all week & it has been SOOOOOOOOO HARD for me!!!!! BUT I'm doing it & it's working scale wise! :smile2: I'm having a well deserved {CARB FREE} Cocktail as I speak. :) this week I reely noticed how i go to food when stressed (CARBS) chips, popcorn ect..... I have felt so frustrated all week. I hope it gets better soon.


  2. Hi everyone. I'm thinking i should go to the meeting. It would be nice to be around people who are going through all the same junk as I am right now. feeling pretty low about myself at this point. I'm still doing "bad" things (eating wise). Still not exercising either. Keep telling myself tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow! This time of year is always hard for me. Ya know the darker days & being stuck inside is hard for everyone.


  3. Heidi if it makes you feel better, I've been working out religiously for the past 4-5 days and I'm still holding on to my extra pounds....

    I think my post-Thankgiving weigh in went something like this:

    Stood on the scale. NO F'ING WAY! There must be something wrong.

    Moved scale to another part of the floor. Clearly the scale was off because it was in a rut between tiles. Got on it again. SAME weight. HUH?!

    Peeled off all of my clothes. THIS will help. Back on the scale. Nope. Same weight.

    Went into the kitchen (Naked now, mind you....) and got new batteries. Clearly there's an issue with my scale. Put in new batteries and weighed myself in kitchen instead. SAME WEIGHT.

    Frustrated because I'm over that "OMG weight"...you know the one where you always think, it's not really that bad unless I hit such and such?! Yeah. Pants are tight for work. I don't own fat clothes any more. One more reason to go walking today. :thumbup:

    Bostonmama, congrats on your date! Very exciting. Makes it far more real, doesn't it?!

    LOL!! Thanks for the laugh Paige. I could just picture you running around your house w/ your scale ha ha ha!!!! :P

    That's what I did a few weeks ago when my scale said I was way down. Got on...NO WAY!......got off...then on again.....moved it....got back on.....OK I"LL TAKE IT! :-) Then I'm waay up a week later. I'm trying to blame it on I should be getting my period soon. To tell you the truth I don't know when that's coming because it chenged in the last few months so much. It should be soon. So, I"ve been having a pitty party for myself & EATING MORE :nono:. Last 3 nights I have felt do stuffed after dinner. The first nigt I did eat too much but last night & the night before I really don't feel I ate too much. I hate that OVERLY FULL feeling. My port popd way out & I feel so uncomfortable. This is my first time feeling TOO full in over a year.

    Well, today is a new day! RIGHT?? :smile2:


  4. oh no Heidi...that stinks....could it be from thanksgiving? Hoping it disappears for you soon!

    so.....drumroll...I"ve got a surgery date for APRIL 7th!!!! Yahoo! I could have had March 11th...but my husband will most likely be out of town that weekend. Boohoo.....So April 7th it is at the Brigham....

    I love having that date in my datebook! :smile:

    YAAAAAy!!!! CONGRATS!!!

    I think i went up before thanksgiving & I was good that day :-(

    Yes, I eat 1500 calories a day & burn 2500 calories each day. You lose weight by burning more then you eat. If you want to lose 2 lbs per week, then you need to have a deficit of 1000 calories (meaning you burn 1000 more calories than you eat) per day.

    ok. I've been told if you work out you need to eat more. It's all so confusing. Now I don't know how I'm gonna burn 2500 cals a day lol! can i eat less cals a day then I will have to burn less cals a day? TY!:smile:


  6. Janice,

    First and most importantly, you said that you're "not eating anything." Please understand that as tempting as it is, you can't starve yourself into losing weight! You need to eat and you need to eat right. You should have been provided with nutritional information before your surgery, such as how much Protein you should be eating, as well as carbs and veggies. If you try to starve yourself, or if you don't eat enough, your body goes into starvation mode and you will not lose weight.

    I try to eat 1500 calories a day (although some days I'm lucky to get past 1200), and I try to burn 2500 calories each day. If I do this each day, I should lose 2 lbs per week.

    So, to make sure you're eating right, you should be sure to have Breakfast. Eating in the morning has never been my thing, but I found a Protein Powder that I really like. So, I have that in 8 ounces of 2% milk each morning and it keeps me satisfied until lunch.

    I also have lunch (usually a 1/2 turkey sandwich on wheat), a snack (usually a piece of fruit and 2-3 hard boiled eggs, egg whites only), and then dinner.

    An example for dinner: I'm eating 3-4 ounces of Protein (steak, chicken, fish, etc.), a 1/2 potato baked with only a 1/2 teaspoon of oil and some fun seasonings (no butter, no sour cream), and a 1/2 of corn on the cob and an ice tea with lemon. This is about 400 calories (which is good).

    As for exercising, I've recently started the Couch 2 5K program, but if you're just starting out on this journey, that may be too difficult. You certainly don't want to overdo and then never want to exercise again. So, I suggest walking, either outside or on a treadmill. Try to walk for 30 minutes. Each week, increase your time by 5-10 minutes and your intensity. Right now I workout for an hour on the treadmill. Physically I could do more, but I don't seem to have the time. To begin, I do the Couch 2 5K program for the first 1/2 hour, then I walk at an incline of 8 for 10 minutes, I walk at an incline of 5 for 5 minutes, then I bring it down to 2 and very slowly warm down. Time permitting; I also lift free weights to tone my arms.

    I really hope this novel helps you. Please feel free to ask questions - and just remember, starving yourself is not the answer! I unfortunately made that mistake and I think that’s what led to my overlong plateau!

    I'm a little confused. Did you say you try to eat 1500 cals a day & burn 2500 cals a day?? You can still lose weight if your burning more then you are eating? Thanks ahead! :smile:


  7. Ok, Heidi.

    You inspired me. I made the tremendous mistake of getting on the scale today and was absolutely horrified by what I saw. I was up 10 pounds from when I had my unfill. Mind you, like many of us, my weight can fluctuate 4-6 pounds on any given day....but it was 2 pounds over THAT weight...you know the one that makes you totally PANIC?!

    I went and walked...then ran...then walked more. I'm sore. I'm exhausted, but with no work and no family to take care of, I have nothing to do til Sunday night. SO I'm going to commit myself to at least workout each day this weekend to jump start myself. I'm now 22 pounds from my New Year's goal. Not so likely if I don't get off my fat a$$.....!

    Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I'm just a few weeks from my 2 year anniversary and I can't believe that my desire to eat when I'm not even hungry has never gone away. Crazy. I guess my behaviors will never change until I really make some serious changes. One day, one meal at a time.

    Oh Paige, I so wish I had the drive to exercise like you do! I did OK yesterday & OK today. I picked a bit today though

    :-(. I wanna start doing some of those on demand workouts on the TV. I HAVE to!!!! I really wanna tone more, mostly my gut & butt. I just saw the worst pic of myself that showed my NASTY gut! I didn't think it still looked like that!!! :thumbup: I hear ya about the 4-6 lbs up & down any gived day. THAT"S SOO ME!!! I should try to go to the meeting cause I don't need i fill for awhile.


  8. ok...so I had my first surgery consult yesterday with Dr. R at Faulkner! He thinks I will get approved no problem and the only thing I need next is the Upper GI! Yahoooo!

    I loved his PA...Katherine I think? So he said he's now booking into March or early April. I am getting so excited! I think I need to make a signature.....this might actually happen!

    So I had my quick unfill yesterday. After putting in .25 cc at a time, he took out an entire 1.0 cc. I wasn't happy about it, but sure felt good to have Soup WITH veggies today and not have to strain them out. Also a really good night's sleep without reflux. Dr. R's PA was fantastic. I really like her.

    Hope you guys are having a good week. I'm refocusing on finally losing that last 13 before New Year's......we'll just see how long this focus lasts with the holidays. :)

    Glad your better Paige. I'm sure having just broth was NO fun. I know what you mean about only staying focused for so long :thumbup:. Well, I was sooo surprised when I weighed the other morning & I was down a few LBS!

    Paige~ I hope you do better after your unfill. How was your trip? I soooo need a vaca~~!!

    Well, I went out the other night & it was fun. I thought I looked good untill some A** touched my gut & said "What are you gonna name this one"? :biggrin: Prick!! He knew I wasn't pregnant!! I mean, I was sucking back the drinks! I swear people get more ignorant on a daily basis & the more ignorant they are the more they're drawn to me!!! Who says that!??!?!?! So, that being said.......what are some good gut exercises???? LOL! :tt2:


  11. Paige- I do believe different things make me tighter too (stress & pms). I'm still confused to how many calories I should eat. Does anyone here count cals? I'm looking over the packets we got waaaaay back in the beggining w/ food listings, cals, ect. I'm making a food list to bring to the grocery store. Who new weightloss could be so complicated lol!


  12. So, I'm not exercising AT ALL. I don't know what to do? I do have excuses, I have nobody to watch the kids to go to the gym, I can't do a video w/ the girls around because I wouldn't even get through it. I'm going to get a tredmill w/ tax returns this year. I want something I can do at home.

    The next thing is I REALLY need to get in to the nutritionist! I am confused on calories ect.. I was talking to Doc V about it & she had NO CLUE.

    Mel~ Fritos seem like a harder chip to me too. Even though I shouldn't really know that. ;-)

    As for me~ it's weird,, I seem tighter all of a sudden in the past week. I think it takes Awhile sometimes & then tightens up more. Not doing great w/ my choices , could be doing better.

    I've had a lot of issues w/ fatigue for awhile. I've had these issues for years but it seems to be really bad lately. I probably need MORE Protein & exercise!


  14. Hello Everyone, hows it going? Congrats to newly banded and those veteran banded on the struggle we are doing it. I had my two week postop and I was down 17.5 since surgery. I've been walking an hour 6 days a week. When my steri strips were taken off they were gentle at Dr. T's office, I have never waited more then ten minutes which is only like five because I'm always early. I go to Faulkner, love it easy in and out. I'm on the mushy phase been doing Wendy's Chili, egg salad, mashed potatoes and I have beneprotein that I add which is tasteless and mixes well. My Doctors receptionst always makes sure whatever I call for is taken care of, she made all of my appts to my first fill after my first meeting with the surgeon including calling me back at home and my office when I had a question her name is Yvette and she is so FAB. After reading about the pain on the first fill I was getting apprehensive, but its been a fairly easy transition for me so I'm gonna keep positve that all will stay the same. Also I dont have much scaring after they heal I don't they think you will see much of anything done, except the longest scar at the port but that is really healing well, is this normal with everyone? BTW, Yvette always tell me when I need to see the Nut.......so I never have to worry about asking. So is anyone going to the meeting at the Faulkner on the 19th? Have a great holiday weekend everyone.

  15. It's not for sure, as I have heard I'm stuck with this for two years. So I may be a bandster for another year. Not 100% sure I'm doing this. Just exploring options. I hate that my diabetes is coming back. I've gained a few pounds back, but less than 10, and they say that's not an excuse for that. They said i'd have to have gained like 40. So that's not right. So maybe my body is just worsening. Right now I have a long list of appts, starting with my surgeon on the 19th, and ending with my nut on the 26th. (Ironically the day Matthew has surgery himself) So time will tell. I'm frustrated, not eating much, and yet gaining. I just don't understand it. Seriously on fit day yesterday it said I have eaten 800 calories (which felt like a lot), and I'm up another 2 pounds.

    Add to that that I'm now on a medication to induce menopause. I'm a wreck. If this works for a short time, I'll be having my ovaries removed.

    So, your still hungry a lot? Is that the main thing? Are you eating your Protein? I did not lose from March-sept 5-6!! I was not eating a lot but I was eating the wrong foods. I'm not saying this is you. Have you talked w/ your nutritionist? What does your Doc think the problem is? I feel for you. Sometimes I feel why did I get the surgery because it is still SUCH a BATTLE. I know I am better off than I was though. Keep us posted.


  16. So, I had my fill tues & I'm down a few lbs yaaaay!! I'm enjoying some Wedy's Chili right now. I never ate this before my surgery but I eat it alot now.

    Something to think about for the newly banded soon.

    I'm gonna try to stay away from white carbs too. I hope this helps.

    I don't think I'll be working out for awhile. I damaged my back some how. I went to the chiro & she took x rays. Right where I have my pain my spine jets over to that side squishing into my ribs too. It hurst when i take deap breathes too. It really sucks when you REALLy get hurt! Ya complain about little aches & then you get a BIG one. I don't know how I did it????? After I had my last baby I felt a little kink there. went awawy for years & now I got pain in that exact spot. So she thinks maybe from child birth or carrying them. I've had too adjustments so far & go back thurs. ttyl! Hang in there!!!!!
