  1. The fact is that WAY fewer complications arise from the lap band. Period. The nation wide surgical group that my surgery center belongs to has NEVER had one serious complications out of THOUSANDS of surgeries.

I don't understand why people feel the need to come put us lap bandsters in our place. What do you get out of it???? :confused:What's the pay off? Why do you feel the need to treat us all like children and "tell us how things really are" ?? We aren't stupid little children. Most of us have done our research and know exactly what we have gotten ourselves into.

  2. Im not young anymore so I cant dress like I did when I was 17. But... I'll weigh what I did when I was 17. Confusion abounds... how do I stay comfortable with this new person in the mirror??

I vote that you DO dress like you're 17:D Why not??? You are losing weight and lookin good :clap2:

  3. Good luck to the last of the May bandsters today!!! It's not bad at all. I'm 5 days out and feeling great!

If you are near Dallas and have an Inamed band, Dr. Jayaseelan will fill Mexican bands. You might also try SCOR (The Surgery Center of Richardson.) They fill under fluro and may do Mexican patients. I do know for sure that Dr. Jay does though. Just Google Dr. Jayaseelan Medical City. It should come up immediately.

  4. DON'T CHEAT!!!! You have to show yourself that you are ready for this by making the commitment to stick to the diet. If you can't stick to it, then you may not be seriously ready for the commitment to come.

I promise, if you just stick to it, it gets better after a few days. You stop thinking about food. You stop being so hungry. You have to test your resolve now for the period after the band.

  5. The Mirena DOES have hormones that are released locally rather than systemically. It does decrease bleeding in the majority of women. I went from flooding red blood with huge clots b4 IUD to a mild brown discharge that barely warrants a panty liner post IUD. Now the copper IUD will make you bleed more. I wouldn't get one of those. Mirenas are the ones that rock.

  6. I have a Mirena and LOVE it. It only hurts slightly more than an annual to have it inserted. You might also be crampy for a few days afterward, but then you forget all about it. AF is WAY lighter after a few months. It is SO convenient. I wouldn't trade mine for the world.

  7. Tomorrow is the big day!!! I'm down 10 lbs. I hope that's enough. I have the fear that I'll wake up without the band or something.

I appreciate all of the help and support I've gotten here. LBT REALLY helped me see all sides of the band and get an acurate picture of what I can really expect as opposed to the everything is going to be perfect ideal that you get from ads and websites that just tell about the procedure. It's nice to go into this with all sides of the story.

  8. It's natural to have second thoughts. I was supposed to have surgery over a year ago but am just now doing it (tommorrow.) The great thing is that I know 100% that I am ready now. I had a year to think about it and deal with the changes I will have to make in my life. I have no second thoughts now. Give yourself time to think on it if you aren't 100% sure. It's a serious step and you need to make sure that you want it. It'll still be there in a year, 5 years, 10 years.

  9. You have a point Donna. I hope you don't feel that I don't respect that way of doing it. I'm not putting you down at all. My reasoning behind telling people is that it will give me some sort of accountability. I don't want to give myself an inch to fail. I need that. I know that a lot of people don't though, and that's cool. My friend didn't tell anyone but a couple of us who are also fat. She lost 75 lbs in a year. She said it was nice to do it on her terms without questions from everyone. I totally understand that.

BTW Donna, your posts really keep me going. I know that sounds dorky, but I see you as one of the "wise ones" on here. You have such a great attitude :clap2:

  10. Even though I wasn't physically fat until my 20's, my habits have been fat habits since childhood. I was able to fight them to some extent. For example, my mom bought me poptarts. I ate two and felt aweful 2 hours later. So, I decided I was going to have a home made egg mcmuffalot in the mornings. My mom bought me Eglish muffins, lean ham, eggs, and 2% cheese. I only used the egg whites. I used this sandwhich for many years to start my day and it carried me for hours. My mom would buy chips and dip for my afterschool snack. She didn;t know any better. I loved them. I woould eat an entire bag in one day.

  11. I'll tell anyone who will listen. I don't care who likes it or how they talk about me. People LOVE to tell me their concerns or about a less drastic diet I could do. I just smile and nod my head and go about my business. I WILL not be forced in to shame or hiding. I want everyone to know what I am doing. So be it if they think I'm taking the easy way out. Who cares??? I know the truth.

I guess my point is that people need to worry about their own business and stop trying to make drama in yours. It's your life. You shouldn't have to hide, lie, or anything like that.

  12. I have a few ideas:

Hummus. You can buy it pre-made in various flavor. I buy from the cold case at whole foods. It's full of Protein. You can make your own as well-

    Hummus-

2 cloves garlic—roughly chopped ¼ cup lemon juice ¼ cup Water 14 oz (400g) canned chickpeas (garbanzo beans)—rinsed and drained ½ cup tahini 1 teaspoon sea salt

How about a crustless, light cheesecake "pudding"

    1/2 c. splenda

8 oz. light or fat free cream cheese-softened

    8 oz. Cool Whip Light

    1 tsp. vanilla

Whip all ingrdients together with hand mixer until creamy. Put into pie plate or casserole dish until set.

How about a creamy black bean Soup?

    2 cans black Beans

    1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil

    2 cloves garlic, minced

    1 medium onion, chopped

    1 stalk celery, chopped

    2 cups chicken broth

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1/4 teaspoon black pepper

    1 heaping teaspoon chili powder

    1 heaping teaspoon cumin

    1/2 cup cream

Tabasco and red pepper, to taste

    Chopped green onions (optional)

    Sour Cream

Heat olive oil in heavy saucepan and saute onions, celery, and garlic, stirring occasionally until tender, around 3-5 minutes. Stir in Beans, chicken broth, and seasonings. Bring to a boil, reduce h eat, and simmer, partially covered, about 30 minutes.

Cool slightly and puree the soup in small batches in a blender. Return to pot and blend in cream. Season with hot sauce and red pepper to taste. Strain through sieve to remove skins and lumps. Heat gently and serve in deep bowls sprinkled with onions and sour cream.
