    I'm Such A Cheater!!!

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm supposed to be doing mushies. I've had a few things that are soft, but not mushy. My doc said to work my way back up to regular food over the next two weeks. I haven't eaten chips or anything hard, but I have eaten some stuff that was chunky and chewed it well--like Wendy's chili. I'm a little scared myself. I haven't had any pain or problems. Everything goes down well.
  2. I'm having my surgery with Dr. Jayaseelan at The Surgery Center of Richardson. Anyone know the minimum amount of time I can expect to be there??? I see that some people do a 23 hour hospital stay. What does he do if you need to stay for a while? Do they do overnight there??? I'm really curious as to how this works since it isn't a hospital.

OMG!!! Was this a waste of money???

Lots of people are allowed mushies at 1 and 2 weeks, it just depends on your doc.

So, I thought I was superwoman

Kim- I burp a lot too. I would assume it's pretty normal. I have a big hiccup or burp and then pressure when my band is full. I would assume that any type of pain/pressure would be an indicator of fullness. If your not sure, stop for a few minutes. If you're still hungry, you can eat after you are sure you aren't full.

May 2006 Band Crew ~ June Chat

Can I ask a question??? I was banded May 26th. I'm 9 days out. After eating or drinking I feel a slight pain/soreness/pressure on my upper left side under my boob. I don't know if it's my band or port or what. Toward the end of the day, I feel it too. It isn't bad, just annoying. Is this normal??? It's my only pain at this point. I don't have to take pain meds for it. All my incisions looks good. No PB's yet. I'm just curious to see if anyone knows what this is.

    Dr. Jay/Surgery Center of Richardson

I feel GREAT!!! I was working by Tuesday and have been going all weekend. My port incision is a little sore, but usually only at the end of the day or after I eat/drink. It isn't anything big. Dr. Jay did an awesome job. I have nothing but glowing reviews for SCOR too!!!!

How about pureed Pimento cheese spread?? I buy mine at Whole Foods already made, but I have made my own at home- 1 8oz pkg light or ff cream cheese softened to room temperature. 1 cup shredded light cheese (swiss, cheddar, smoked gouda are all great) 2 tbsp. light or ff mayo 2 tbsp chopped pimentos (more if you like tham a lot) 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp pepper 1/2 tsp garlic powder Mix in a food processor or with a hand mixer until well blended. If you like it creamier, add more light mayo. Chill and serve. Tons of Protein, tastes great. Don't eat a TON of it though b/c it is a bit high in fat.

The tomato basil soup at La Madaline is yummy. It's great if you want to go out to eat with your spouse. But, WATCH OUT. It has 360 calories and 34 grams of fat for a small cup (which is plenty.)

    Uh-oh- Losing Restriction Already!!!

I've been walking. I lost a pound more as of this morning. I guess I shouldn't be pouting, just trying to eat as healthily as possible and getting my exercise. I feel great though after a little more than a week. I feel almost normal!!!
  14. I'm a little more than a week out and already STARVING. I'm eating very thin mushies like thin purred pintos, thickened Soup broth, thin mashed potatos and gravy. I can take my horse pills back to back with no problem. I am starting to be able to eat more too :phanvan I haven't had more than 1000 calories in a day, but haven't lost since my surgery a week ago :phanvan I know this time isn't for losing, but I feel like I should be losing more with eating less than 1000 calories a day. I guess I should be happy that I've lost 15 so far since starting my 1 week pre-op diet and stop whining. I guess I'm just scared that 1. Since I'm already hungry and huge horse pills go down fine that I'm going to GAIN. 2. Since I'm not losing on less than 1000 calories per day that I'll never lose any more weight. Sorry I just have to lay this all out somewhere where people will understand.

May 2006 Band Crew ~ June Chat

I am 9 days out and started on mushies Thursday night. I was SO hungry. I felt so much better after eating mushies. I have had no problems with them at all. 3loves- I was really tired after going out the first few times. At this point I do fine but I am sore by the end of the day as well as wiped out. I think that is normal. Diane- I hope your viral pericarditis gets better fast Mandy- I knew what you meant when you said full solids. I figured you meant liquids like mushies. I HAD to start on them after a week. I was in pain from eating thin liquids. I started healing faster after starting mushies. I feel tons better. I am like you in the mornings though, I do a shake too. I don't think it hurts anything.

    Mushies Stage Recipes

Black Eyed Pea has a very creamy squash casserole. You can make your own too. Just make sure you cook the squash until it can be totally mushed up- 4 cups sliced yellow squash 1/2 cup chopped onion 35 buttery round crackers, crushed 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese 2 eggs, beaten 3/4 cup milk 1/4 cup butter, melted 1 teaspoon salt ground black pepper to taste 2 tablespoons butter DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Place squash and onion in a large skillet over medium heat. Pour in a small amount of Water. Cover, and cook until squash is tender, about 5 minutes. Drain well, and place in a large bowl. In a medium bowl, mix together cracker crumbs and cheese. Stir half of the cracker mixture into the cooked squash and onions. In a small bowl, mix together eggs and milk, then add to squash mixture. Stir in 1/4 cup melted butter, and season with salt and pepper. Spread into a 9x13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle with remaining cracker mixture, and dot with 2 tablespoons butter. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until lightly browned. You may want to leave the crumbs off the top. They don't really get that crispy, especially after it sits for a while. Another possibility- Creamy polenta- I'm a little scared on this one b/c it does set. I'm a little afraid that it might set in my stomach or something. Anyone try polenta on mushies???

    regrets

I have had the band since last Friday. I know that is a super short time. But, I can honestly say that you may have moments where you think, "Oh crap. I can't have a hamburger and tater tots. Or, It's been 3 weeks since I have had Mexican food" (or whatever. ) It can be scary tot hink that you can't have another submarine sandwich, cola, or steak. But, in order to lose weight, you HAVE to deal with those issues. You can't lose weight constantly having those things anyway. You just need to be prepared to deal with the reality. I think some people will be happy that they got it and never look back. Some of us will have our moments and bounce back. Some will not be happy they got it.

    Anyone have IBS or PCS?

I'm newly banded, but the minute I stopped solids I go rid of the "gotta go now" syndrome. I have IBS and PCS. It has been WONDERFUL. I hope the improvement keeps up. Not having emergency bathroom trips is so nice.

    Dr. Jay/Surgery Center of Richardson

    Flip a Coin?

Sorry for being such a grump. I forget that not all people are as awesome and as educated as most of us here I tend to get defensive about it b/c it took me over a year to decide to do it after my first consult. It was a huge decision for me and I agonized over it. I truly forget that not everyone is the same way.

    Soda's ???????????????!!!!!!!

I have found that Minute Maid diet lemonade and Crystal Light peach tea are great subs for sodas. My doc allows caffiene, just not carbonated sodas b/c they cause distension. I'm glad not to have them anymore. It makes weight loss that much easier.

    Hot Dogs R No Longer

I LOVE sammies and hamburgers too. I was just thinking how much I'll miss them today. I love hot dogs too. :hungry:
  24. I am NOW, but I just got my band. I followed the liquid pre-op diet to the letter and am following the post-op diet as well. I am drinking in a way that still allows me to lose weight. I am being VERY careful. BUT, I also know that there will be a period there where I don't have much restriction. That makes me nervous, especially since the week before my first fill, I'll be on vacation. I'm just doing the best I can day by day and going from there. I don't judge anyone for not losing before fills.

    A very embarrassing problem

I wouldn't worry about it. If you are on the liquid dietm then it may be a while before you have a real BM.
