I could drink 64 oz of liquid the day after surgery and since then, I've worried that I did something wrong somehow. The past couple of days since starting the puree phase, I eat more at meals than I think I'm supposed to be able to. My doctor's office said that people don't usually finish a cup of greek yogurt in one sitting but I don't find that to be a problem.
I don't even know what I'm asking. I'm just worried.

I know that this thread is a few years old but I'm curious how it eventually worked out for you.Turns out, if I take the three doses spaced throughout the day after I have a bit of food in my stomach, I don’t have trouble. Sticking with them until the pods are finished then making a decision.
Thanks!

I got a couple of bariatric cookbooks just so I would have ideas for things. There are some great recipes in both of them.

I was lucky (-ish) that I only had to do it for 5 days prior to surgery. My only tips are
- wean yourself off of caffeinated coffee because you won't be able to have it during recovery
- drink Gatorade if you're allowed. It'll help give some energy and keep you from getting a headache
- likewise, I drank chicken broth every day to help get something warm and to get some salt. You're essentially preventing a "keto flu" here. I was honestly surprised that I didn't have any headaches during those few days.
- I had freezer meals ready for my family so that I wouldn't have to cook for them. My husband could just handle dinner easily. (Not that he's incompetent or something. He had to work and help with watching 3 kids. Me not having to cook was helpful.)
Other than that, try and keep yourself distracted. I watched a lot of TV, played video games, and generally tried to not think about wanting to eat. It wasn't terrible but I definitely hated it. Day 2 was awful. Beyond that, things were easier to handle.
Good luck!

I has mine last week on Thursday. I'm surprised at how good I feel! I was nervous about getting enough Water but it hasn't been an issue. Pain is manageable.
The only thing I have trouble with sometimes is finding a comfortable position to sleep. Sometimes it's not an issue and other times -- like tonight -- I'm stuck awake because no matter which way I lay, it's uncomfortable.

28 days [emoji33]Too all those now on their pre-op diets...I am on Day 17 of my pre-op diet. You read that correctly, Day 17. I have to do a 28 day liver shrinking diet. 4 Protein Shakes, 1 lean and green meal, and 1 serving of sugar free jell-o. No matter what your pre-op diet, it gets better! The first 3 days were tough, but now I am smooth sailing through it!
11 days to go for me! Pre-op surgeon visit this Friday and medical clearance with my primary on Monday.

This liquid diet is bruuutal. I'm on day 4 of 5 and I'm so hungry. The other days were filled with head hunger and sucked in their own way. But today...omg my stomach just keeps growling.

Twins! When do you start your pre-op diet?My surgery date is 9/10! Bypass gal here -
I got lucky (?) and only have to do the liquid pre-op diet for 5 days. I'm thinking of it like I did when I quit smoking 10 years ago...just sort of grit my teeth and get through it. Mind over matter... [emoji1696]MagentaMom
My surgery is the same day and my birthday is in September also. (9/22) Unfortunately wasn’t able to Celebrate it before I started the pre-op diet because they called me to tell me the date and I had to start the diet the next day.
Good luck to you! -
A mini thermos! That's a great idea!I just made sure I’d have all the shakes, Soups, broths, etc. I would be eating during the liquid stage. I live alone & didn’t want to bother others to do my shopping. I bought all the over the counter meds too like gasX, benefibre, stool softeners, pain meds, hydralite, etc. Also bought a mini thermos to keep Soups & broth hot as it took me hours to drink them. I’d make up my shakes in zippy cups/water bottles so I could have a couple of flavours on the go in the fridge. Your taste buds do change after surgery & flavours you enjoyed before may become disgusting to you after.
Small storage containers & zip lock bags once you start on soft then solid foods will become your friend. I froze meals I cooked in individual serves - actually still do - so it made it easy at meal times to just defrost & heat.
Good luck with your surgery.
So you made Protein Shakes ahead of time and kept them in the fridge?
I have a bunch of different Protein powder flavors, including an unflavored one. I'm hopeful that I'm covered on that front. -

September 10th here! I'm celebrating my (September) birthday this weekend since I'll be a couple of days post-op on my actual birthday.
Good luck everyone!

My surgery is scheduled for September 10 and I'm trying to prepare as best as I can. I've seen people talking about meal prepping for themselves after surgery. What is it that you're prepping?
