I’m wondering too. I’m hoping they said they could get her right in if she went right then and that’s why she hasn’t posted.

It's entirely likely they will tell you to go to the ER. This may or may not be related to your surgery, but is definitely serious enough to warrant a trip to the ER to get checked out.

Hi all. It's only 6:35am where I'm at, so they aren't open yet. I did want to mention to @kcuster83 that I had my gallbladder out back in 97 so I know it's not that. The pain is my upper abdomen/stomach area.
I will definitely be very assertive with them. I may even have my husband drive me to their office and just sit there if they can't do anything for me over the phone. I will let you all know what happens after I call (they open at 9am Mountain time). Thanks for your responses!!

Hopefully you are about to call your dr now. I agree with others that you should be seen right away. Perhaps tell them that you are willing to wait to be fit in between patients. Be sure to emphasize that you believe you have blood in your stool and fear that you are bleeding somewhere. If they absolutely say they can’t fit you in ask if someone can at least call you asap to let you know if it sounds emergent. If it does sound emergent ask if you should request any particular dr at the hospital. Of course you can’t always get who you want but sometimes there is an option. Basically just don’t be nice and agreeable and let them push you off. Keep asking questions until you get the help you need. And keep us updated when you have time.

You absolutely need to contact your surgeon ASAP! I developed terrible GERD about 6 months after my VSG and have been living with it for about a year. It truly is horrible. My heart goes out to you. I wonder if you have a severe hiatal hernia which would cause your extreme reaction. Regardless, please call your doctor as soon as they open in the morning! You sound like you would be a prime candidate for a revision to your surgery. I really hope things get better. Please keep us posted.🙏🏻💕💕

I tried to edit my post but it wouldn’t let me….. anyway, I also wanted to add that you should tell your surgeon you think you may have an ulcer that could possibly be bleeding. I think that would account for the very dark stool. (I know, TMI but, hey, we’re all friends here.)

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this!! It sounds like a severe hiatal hernia but I’m not a medical expert. Please call your surgeon ASAP!!! Don’t let them schedule you where you have to wait. You need to be seen immediately. Put your foot down! Tell them you’re in extreme pain and this is emergent. Have them work you into their schedule. Let us know what they tell you.🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️

I'm going to call on Monday and see if I can get in to see my surgeon or the NP. The burning in my throat is constant now and I have zero desire to eat because everything either makes me really nauseous or triggers a BRUTAL reaction (pain, intense burning in my stomach, chest, and throat, nausea, shortness of breath, PAIN). I had my gallbladder out in 97 so I know it's not that. I'm going to try OTC Nexium (comes in 20mg but I'm going to buy extras and take 40mg) for about a week to see if it helps at all. The 40mg of Omeprazole isn't helping. I thought about taking it in the morning and at night, but I want to run that by my doctor first. If the Nexium doesn't help, and if taking one of them 2x a day doesn't help, I will absolutely do a revision to bypass. I'll figure it out with the pills, but I'm on day 3 of this and I can't do it. It's horrible. It's like everything and nothing triggers it. I don't know how people live like this.

I am 8 years out from my sleeve and have had GERD since. It has progressively gotten worse. They found a fairly large hiatal hernia. Initially my doc was recommending the bypass conversion but he was concerned it would cause more problems for me since I really don’t have that much more to lose. I had a hernia repair surgery on 7/26 and was told I actually had two! They fixed the hernias, stitched the diaphragm where the esophagus passes, and placed a dissolvable mesh wrap. I am on full liquids until my follow up on 8/10. Overall, I think I did better post op with the sleeve as physically it’s been pretty rough. I was told to quit taking my PPIs and haven’t needed them so I’m hopeful that this will work. He said we can keep the bypass as a last resort but my BMI is down to 26.3 so I don’t think it’s truly an option. I also think if I had known what the past 8 years would be like I may have just opted for bypass from the beginning.

Day 3 post op update. Overall doing very well. Not much gas pain. I have only gotten sick once when the night nurse decided it was a good idea to give me crushed Tylenol without any nausea medication. Once we got that under control, I was able to take the medicine with chocolate pudding. I was discharged by noon the next day since I was walking well and holding full liquids down. Saturday was difficult because we had a six hour drive home and the road bumps played soccer with my insides. I'm pretty sore today. Getting my fluids and Protein down. I never knew how much I could love SF chocolate pudding 🤣🤣 Walking is harder today, but finally beginning to have a bit of bowel movement. Taking it easy.

Dietitians need to ask enough questions to understand where you ARE, both with your ability to prepare your own food and your overall understanding of nutrition. It sounds like you and your dietitian are not on the same page and she is assuming you understand things they are not explaining well. There are a lot of ways to reach 60g of Protein in a day that will be too high in fat, calories, and carbs to result in weight loss.
Sometimes I feel like the heavy, heavy emphasis on protein does us a disservice, especially when there are so many high-protein "convenience foods" that are high in fat (and calories) to cater to Keto dieters (hello, Quest cookies! 230 calories! that's not a snack, that's a meal). Protein is a big component but in the absence of other, concrete advice about WHAT to actually eat, if you don't have a huge knowledge base of nutrition, it's easy to get lost.

So, I guess it's normal to find it hard to breathe deeply, and get a little winded while walking? I kind of feel like I felt right after getting covid, and I'm not even up to 15 minutes walking yet. I walk to work which is like five minutes, and in the mornings it's kind of hard for me. Never was before.

On the plus side, I lost another kilo (a little more than two pounds), so I guess I'm not stalled. And today I went to buy a new jacket for fall, and asked to try on size 46, but I ended up buying size 44 (same as UK size 16 or US size 12). I haven't fit into size 44 for years, so that was nice.

5lbs in 7 days is great! Keep in mind the pre-op diet is to help you shrink your liver not necessarily lose weight.

I had my surgery yesterday, it was a long day, and last night I had A LOT of pain from the air in my chest. I was finally able to get some out and feel much better. My stomach just feels bruised as of now. And I just had my leak test, so I can finally have a drink!!!

That's exactly when I stalled out for a week. I had lost about 10 pre-op & 9 post op so I was trying not to kick myself too hard. it's been almost a week since I hopped back on the scale. It's currently shark week for me so I was waiting till it ended to hop on again since I tend to be heavier. My doctor told me not to watch the scale too hard in the first month anyways.

You are absolutely not alone in that possible failure feeling. I've been feeling it hard this past week. I finally decided to take a break from my scale. I've been looking for nonscale victories instead. I tried on a shirt that was way too tight 6 months ago, also thinking to myself I should probably return it and never did. I saw it in my closet the other day and tried it on. I was almost in tears at how good it looked and so proud of how far I'd come.
The lbs aren't going to melt off in a day, with that being said I actually am starting to feel a lot of pressure from my family that knows I had surgery. I feel like their expectations now that I had the surgery are as if I just had Lipo. It kinda stresses me out that the scale isn't moving like id like it to and I feel like I have all eyes on me waiting for me to fail.

I too took a little bit of time to notice that "full feeling". That lower chest tightness I feel, is that your body is telling you that you're likely close to being full and to not go crazy with anymore intake of food. Learning to slow down and pace myself has been and continues to be the most difficult thing with eating.

It took me about a week for me to notice the restriction. Honestly, I had felt the same, almost to the point of thinking did they really take out 80% of my stomach?
By the end of the 2nd week, I started to notice more of the full feelings, and my body started to reject things that days prior I was having no issues getting down. I notice the fullness in my lower chest. A pressure but not the feeling of being overly full. Pace yourself with bites. I noticed I was taking my bites too quick at first and not allowing my body time to really figure out if I was done or not. Almost gave myself about a full min or two before I took another.
Which honestly was hard because well for 32 years I've been eating the same way I always had so trying to completely change the way I eat has been a small struggle.
