  1. That is something I’m working out in my head, the no snacks plan my doctor goes by. It’s 3 meals a day and that is it besides water, crystal light, decaf fluids etc between. I’m good with that, but I was always a night time snacker, so really it probably shouldn’t surprise me that that is when my head hunger pays me a visit. I’m honestly good all day except evening, so it’s definitely just trying to adjust to this new way of living:)
  2. Wow, thanks for all the replies!! I can deal with absolutely anything, but it is nice to know what to expect, and I guess I can expect to have run ins with this, well, forever:) I appreciate everyone’s time in responding as I learn to navigate all this new terrain!

How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?

Every day, first thing after going to the restroom when getting dressed so I can do it with no clothes on, lol
  4. The first, like 6 hours after surgery I was really nauseous, and soooo tired from anesthesia and phenergan. I was the first surgery of the day, and my doc ended up fixing a hiatal hernia while he was in there too. So until like 4ish in the afternoon I was totally worthless, but after some toradol and zofran I was much better and got up and walked 3 laps, still didn’t feel great with ice or fluids, but part of a popsicle was good. By the next dose of zofran at 11 something that night I felt pretty darn good, and walked multiple laps through the night. By morning I was feeling at 90+%. I was discharged and out the door by 11 the following morning. I never needed my pain meds or spasm meds at home. Those first few hours after surgery it was nausea that was debilitating, the pain was never bad, the pressure was there, but the toradol took care of that. I was still kind of tired that first day home, but as far as how I felt, by the second day home I honestly felt great.
  5. I had my surgery on 11/9. It was supposed to be a bypass but a lower hernia and scar tissue in my abdomen caused it to become a sleeve. Which is fine, but it wasn’t what I expected. I also had another hernia, hiatal, that he repaired. My doctor is hoping with that repair my horrible indigestion will be long gone and the sleeve will be a good fit, but if not he has already said he would revise it If I got the other hernia repaired first. My doctor is great, I’m not upset with him, but somehow having the plan changed makes me feel like I’m behind. I lost 20 pounds over 2 weeks on the pre-op diet, but when I finally weighed myself today, well I’m at the same weight I was when I went I for surgery on Monday. I’m sure things will get moving along, I’m following the diet, Protein, and Fluid recommendations religiously, but I just feel a little deflated and defeated this evening. I know those feelings will pass, but I just needed to put into words that I’m just not feeling on point yet.
  6. I searched for quite awhile before selecting my surgeon, and I am so happy with the choice I made. I live in GA and had my surgery in Deluth at Northside hospital, my surgeon was Dr. Del Mazo. I really like his bedside manner, and have been very comfortable with him from the initial consult. The dietitians, fitness instructors, nurses and office staff have all been wonderful and when I was discharged from the hospital he gave me a teddy bear; of course I said that’s not necessary and he goes...”well yeah we do, it’s “bear”iatrics.” Lol I cried, because I’m a softie, and because it was just unexpected, and no it doesn’t matter that they do it for all of their patients, it was touching to me:) I wanted to share, because I don’t genuinely enjoy and click with every doctor, but feel It’s worth some kudos to them when you find a good one.

    Feeling frustrated and sad

Thanks everyone, I know it is very early days!! I am a perfectionist in everything I choose to take on, this journey is no different, and changing gears unexpectedly definitely felt like a hiccup in a well laid plan. On top of being a perfectionist I am also a control freak, I love to control all variables that are within my ability to control and mold to generate the result that I want; so I now just have to redefine my plan, which may seem silly to so many, but it is just me. Thank you all for taking the time to respond to me. I feel much more ready to tackle everything today after a good sleep and some new planning:)
  8. This was a topic we didn’t talk a lot about at my appointments, but I became curious last night. I’m only 5 days post op, and last night I woke up very cold and chilled, no fever, and had been having really vivid dreams that I could remember well. The only other time I can recall this onslaught of chills and shivering and vivid dreaming was after my pregnancies when your are going through such big hormonal changes and dumping. I was just curious if anyone else had experienced this...I also understand it could have zero to do with the surgery.

    Terrified- surgery Tues

I just had my surgery on the 9th. I was switched from a bypass to a sleeve due to a hernia down low near my c-section scars, but my doc did fix a hiatal hernia while in there as well. I was there a little over 24 hours, they had talked of sending me home the same day but my nausea was vicious coming out from anesthesia and the phenergan they gave had me so tired and loopy I wasn’t going anywhere. They got me home right away after shift change the next day after I’d been up through the night walking. They gave me a heparin shot before my surgery, and then 3 more afterwards while I was on the surg floor. I wore scd’s while there as well as Ted hose...I was told to wear the compression socks for 3 days post op at home. I would talk to your doctor about your fears and anxieties surrounding potential clotting issues and go from there. My doctor and his team were/are amazing. The floor nurses and staff-amazing! I’m sure yours will all be too, and they will all want you to be comfortable with the care and rate at which your recovery progresses. You will do Fantastic, but you owe it to your own peace of mind to address your concerns before the surgery. Best of luck to you!!

    What is restriction?

Thank you everyone! I’ve been trying to really dig in a research sleeves this week since that had never been on my radar. I greatly appreciate you all Taking the time to chat with me:)
  11. This term has never been brought up at any of my appointments. I can try to define it in my head, but I’d love to hear the actual verbiage to define it. I had my surgery Monday, I was switched from bypass to sleeve because of some scar tissue and a hernia near my c section scars, my doc also fixed a hiatal hernia, so I had a lot going on in there, lol. So maybe it will be brought up at my 1 week appointment, but right now I am still being educated:)

    I'm Hungry are You?

Oh my yes, smelling the food is the worst, especially dishes that I really enjoy, like tonight it was chicken fajitas with rice and beans...I really wanted to snag a piece of the chicken, but I didn't. I also do go to the restroom A LOT, but I am definitely drinking a lot of fluids as well so I suppose it is par for the course. We are getting close now! I had my pre-op appointment today and am starting to really get excited!!

    I'm Hungry are You?

My surgery is on the 9th, and I’m on day 7, it definitely got better for me from day 4 on. I’ve lost 15 pounds in the 7 days though so I hope it’s doing all that it should. I have to admit it is still hard though, cooking for my family and not being able to eat as well stinks, but it will all be worth it, right!! We got this!

    CIGNA requirements HELP

I was approved by Cigna this month. I met the doctor for my initial consult in mid August and the patient insurance/billing advocate was like, how fast do you want to get this done. I didn’t want surgery until November because of things we already had on our schedule, but I could have had surgery already. I had 1 psych eval, 1 visit with a dietitian, h pylori test required by doctor, and an online meeting/class about weight loss surgery. That’s it, my pre-op appointment is next week and my surgery is the following. I didn’t have to jump through any hoops and my surgery was approved in 2 days after the weight loss clinic submitted my paperwork for approval.
  16. It’s not a big deal, but I just wondered if any ladies had their period start early after starting the liquid diet? I’m 3 days into the liquid diet my period stated much sooner than I expected, but it’s a huge diet change and I’ve lost 6 pounds in 3 days. So I guess I’m just being nosy and reaching out to see if any other ladies have experienced the same. I do remember thinking my last period was a little late though, so maybe this is when mine should be starting anyway if my last one had been on time. Every once in awhile I feel like my schedule gets a little wonky ever since having my tubal two years ago.

Psych Test -did u have to take one?

I must have gotten off really easy. I had 1 hour-1.5 hour tele-health appt, 500 online t/f questions and that is it. She was really nice and it went quick.
  18. I just started the 14 day pre-op diet yesterday and am using the bariatric advantage hpmr powder, and I must say I find it totally repulsive in taste and texture. Don't get me wrong, I can and will gag it down as instructed, but wanted to see what some of you seasoned veterans may have to offer as advice. It is very grainy'gritty when I mix it regardless of what method I use, it is: hand mix, bullet, ninja. So I wanted to reach out and see if anyone has any suggestions that may help with that area of my distaste for the stuff. Thank you kindly for any wisdom you can offer.

    Bariatric Advantage HPMR

Yeah, it’s what my doctor requires. I bought it through them, I’m supposed to drink 5 servings of the nasty stuff a day...gag
