    Sleeve vs Bypass

Weight loss averages are slightly higher with bypass, but not by a huge amount, and results for both surgeries are dependent on what the individual does with the tool. I had bypass due to GERD, and have been very happy with my recovery and results. Good luck! 😊

    Food Before and After Photos

Fish stew with cod, scallops, and shrimp. Yep, ate on the couch with the bowl in my lap. It was good! 😋
  3. Very odd. A few different thoughts on this. With the smaller volumes of food you are eating now, I am wondering if it could be related to the proportion of sugar vs. other nutrients. Conversely, I did keto a few years ago and my A1C went up. My NUT said very low carb diets can increase insulin resistance and cause increases in blood sugar. It is probably a good idea to discuss with your surgeon and NUT. Please keep us posted on what they say. 💕 I was diabetic pre-WLS with a 6.5 A1C. I have only had one set of labs since surgery, at about 2.5 months and my A1C was down to 5.6. I stopped my metformin when I started my pre-op diet. I am super happy to no longer be diabetic and will be interested to see what my numbers are now.

    The best compliment....

A few weeks ago my 26 year old, size 0, step-daughter stopped by to pick something up. Her words were something “Oh my gosh, you are sooooo tiny.” I weighed about 180 at the time. 🤣 This one was pretty funny, but I took it as a compliment. My husband’s band practices at our house. I have known all of the members for at least a couple of years. The lead singer hadn’t been here in 2-3 months. Two weeks ago, I walked into the house from the gym and greeted her. She looked at me with a puzzled look on her face and asked me to remind her who I was...she was serious. 🤣🤣🤣

    Stopping Ketosis

I was in ketosis for about the first two-three months post-op. There was no way to get in all the protein I needed with eating a more balanced diet. It was not by choice. My diet is more balanced now that I can eat more, and I am out of ketosis. I agree completely with @Arabesque. Your body goes pretty haywire the first few months after surgery. Your hormones get out of whack. One of my liver enzymes was high at my first lab check 2-3 months out, but my surgeon was not worried about it, so I didn’t worry either (I am also a nurse). I also get the lightheaded wobbles frequently. It usually happens when I make quick moves or go from sitting to standing. I “run” into walls and have to catch myself. I am pretty sure it is orthostatic blood pressure changes. It is a good idea to discuss your concerns with your surgeon. They can let you know if what is going on with you is “normal” after weight loss surgery and help you fix anything “abnormal.” Good luck!

    OOTD

I think you look fabulous! 💕 P.S. I really would have loved to try a slice of that lamb you made. 😋

    OOTD

Cute boots! Sweaters are great too! 💕 I don’t love the feeling of turtle/cowl necks on me, but since I am cold all the time, I am wearing some. I still can’t wear them all day, but they really help with the cold. 😊

    Surgery Canceled

My original surgery date back in May was canceled right before I stared my pre-op diet. I was devastated at the cancellation. So sorry this is happening to you (and many others too). It is even worse because you are going to get the double dose of liquid diet. At the end of it all, I did get my surgery though, and you will too. Hang in there! 🤗

    How hunger feels now

I had true hunger twice yesterday. Like you, @Arabesque, I feel restless with true hunger. I feel weak, achy, and unable to focus. Yesterday I had a protein shake for breakfast and then my husband and I did some shopping. By the time we got home, I was HUNGRY. I ate a small hamburger patty (<3 oz) with cheese. I then went to the gym. I was tired at the gym. Instead of my normal 2 hour Saturday workout, I only made it about 70 minutes. On the drive home I felt that weak, restless feeling. My neighbor left some baked goods on our porch and I immediately gobbled down a small ( less than 2 inch diameter) molasses cookie and a bite of cranberry walnut bread. While those are not the best fuel choices in general, I am working towards becoming an intuitive eater and that was I ate. I probably should have had some healthy carbs with lunch to help fuel my workout, because I actually think the sugar gave me the boost I needed at the time. I then had chicken breast and veggies for dinner. Today, I am ready to give most of the rest of the home-baked goodies away to my dad or mother-in-law, but man are those molasses cookies good. 😊
  10. If you are not tracking what you eat, you should. Be honest and track every bite you put in your mouth for a couple of weeks, including the not so good for you stuff. It might help with getting perspective and then you can make adjustments as needed. The stall will typically resolve itself, but with your dietary restrictions, you made need to tweak things a bit. Good luck! 💕

Day 1 pre op liquid diet

When I my body goes into ketosis, like during the liquid pre-op diet, I found I needed a lot of salt. I drank salty broth a few times per day. It does get better around day 3-4. The pre-op diet sucks, but it is a short step towards getting healthy for the rest of your life. 😊

    Up All Night

I could only have about 1.5-2 oz of ground beef, or other meat in a sitting at that time. If I had one bite too much, the same thing would happen to me. Pain, nausea, endless saliva, some foam, more pain. Still happens if I eat too quickly, but the symptoms pass much more quickly now. I have only had literally one bite of pasta on two separate occasions since surgery, so not sure how I would have reacted to that. Pasta is a trigger food for me, so I plan to avoid it for the most part. Maybe once I hit maintenance I will have some once in a while.

    Smart Tape Measure

I did not know this existed. 😳 I love my Renpho scale though, so I just added this to my Amazon cart😂😂

    Hospital stay

Pajama bottoms, iPad, phone, lip balm, and a charger with a long cord was all I used. I think I brought biotene spray, but ended up not needing it as I was immediately allowed ice chips. 😊

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Hi July Peeps! November was a rough month for me with a flood in my house from a broken water heater, and then hubby and I both had COVID. We thankfully are recovered. We still have repair work that will need to be done on the house, but our house is livable and we are glad to be home and not in a hotel for months on end. My weight loss was incredible (I think 😊) for the first 4 months with an average of 15 pounds per month. Now my weight loss has slowed and I am actually stalled right now. I think I have lost maybe a pound in the last week and 10 pounds total in month 5. It is a bummer, but it had to happen sometime. I am just going to keep doing what I have been and hope this stall ends soon. I am wearing size 10 jeans and medium tops at this point. I have so much energy and I am so happy with my weight loss thus far. Hope everyone else is doing well! 💕😊

    Food Before and After Photos

Asian style chicken and cabbage slaw. Around 300 kcals. Ate the whole thing. 😋
  18. I like built bars. They are chewy, like a candy bar. They range from 130-180 kcals and 4-5 net grams sugar/carb with 17-19 G protein. I honestly haven’t paid much attention to the fat content. I only eat about 3-4 per week total though, so probably doesn’t matter too much for me.

    Severe allergic reation

I tried taking Benadryl, but it did not help at all. I had hives basically from my bra line down with some in my groin area and a bit on my arms and neck. It all went away on its own, but it took 2-3 weeks. The itchiness was miserable, but the cortisone cream helped.

    Food Before and After Photos

I ❤️ Eggplant too! Hubby won’t touch it, so I don’t get to eat it that often, as cooking two meals is a pain in my behind. No breading...too much work and save a bit on calories. I just sliced (1/3 inch-ish) and salted it to get rid of extra moisture. I roasted the slices for about 20 minutes before assembly of the “lasagna” so it would be soft in the finished dish. It was so good! The eggplant was soft, but not mushy or watery in the finished product. I can’t wait for lunch today 😬

    Severe allergic reation

What is your reaction? Is it all skin, or are you having breathing issues? Breathing issues are a medical emergency and you need to bite the bullet and go to the ER. If it just skin, you can try the tea bags as mentioned previously, or cortisone cream, but be careful to avoid incisions. I discovered I was allergic to the chlorhexidine used to clean my tummy pre-op. I had a radically itchy rash for 2-3 weeks post-op. It was miserable, but I survived. Good luck!

Eggplant lasagna for me (eggplant replaced noodles) and for the eggplant hating hubby, bell peppers stuffed with noodle-less lasagna goop. Ate everything on my plate and it was delicious. Hubby was sooooo happy. ☺️

    Too old for plastics?

47 here, and pretty sure I see plastics in my future. I basically want to look fit and fabulous for 50 😂😂 Like @ms.sss I am very immature for my age🤣

    The serious conversation "oh snap"

I had bypass, but the first two weeks my kcals/day ranged from 50-500. 500 per day at two weeks is great! Some of us WLS folks struggle with 300 kcals at week two. I have also seen a good number of folks on here that stay at 500 kcals until they reach goal. You are doing awesome! 💕

    Slippers,Mittens and other strange changes

I am 5 months since surgery and I am freezing all of the time. I am obsessed with buying jackets. I want them all. I have the heat up to 73 and wear a sweatshirt, flannel pajama bottoms, socks or slippers, use a blanket and love when my dogs snuggle as they are warm. It is ridiculous. 🙄😂😂😂
