As I posted in a previous thread: This is a lifestyle change. There are weeks that I don't lose anything. BUT, when I do splurge and have that piece of cake, it is much smaller than pre-band. My eating habits in general have improved greatly. Yes, I get discouraged seeing others lose faster than me, but I take responsibility knowing it is my lack of exercise. The thing that keeps me going is the fact that I am NOT gaining weight. It may take me years to lose all of my excess weight, but that's okay. It took years to put in on! Slow and steady is the way to go for me. My skin is adjusting easier this way too. Hooray for the fast losers.........but also, hooray for those of us that are taking it a bit slower. Don't get discouraged, Xena. The band is there for you. Yes, it does take work. It is a TOOL, not an automatic weight loss solution. Best of luck and hang in there!

I have reflux rarely since banding, but I had it some right after surgery. My doctor said it could be caused by eating too much, too fast, or both. Adjusting your eating habits may be helpful.

Don't compare ourselves to other people losing weight

To Kat, I totally agree with you. This is a lifestyle change. Slow and steady is the way to go for me. My skin is adjusting easier this way too. Hooray for the fast losers.........but also, hooray for those of us that are taking it a bit slower. Have a wonderful day. Love to all, Vicki -

A Big Texas Introduction
Ms. Vicki replied to SouthernCharm's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Erica, WELCOME! I live in Conroe, but work in downtown Houston. You'll find lots of support here. Your background sounds oh so familiar. This is a great site. You'll feel very comfortable "being yourself" here. Best wishes for much success on your journey. -
Funny, the morning after surgery, I went to the store to buy foods that I could eat. I was chewing gum and got tired of it. I had no where to throw it out and out of habit, just swallowed it. I immediately panicked and imagined having to have "surgery to remove it". After calling my doctor, he said I probably would be okay (I was) but to call if I had any problems. His nurse laughed at the situation. I guess it could have been a real problem, but it turned out okay. I'm very careful now when I chew gum.

Took the family to see Cars on Father's Day. It was the cutest movie I've seen in a while. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and would gladly see it again.

How Many Ice Cream Scoops have you lost?
Ms. Vicki replied to Bandster Brad's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've only lost 132 scoops.......:cry -
I was tired. Tired of feeling bad all the time. Tired of being tired. Tired of having diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, bad knees, bad hips, bad feet, bad ankles. I was tired of not being able to play with my granddaughter. Tired of not being able to play with my younger sons. Tired of not fitting into the seats at the theater or auditorium at work. Tired of tight airplane seats, tired of fighting to get in/out of the back seat of the car. Tired of getting out of breath walking to the bus stop. Tired of having to sit at a table instead of a booth at the restaurant. Tired of having kids stare at me. Tired of embarrassing my family (especially my kids) because of my size. Tired of not being able to have fun at amusement parks. Tired of not wanting to make love to my husband. Tired of being embarrassed when I did. Tired of the discrimination at work. Tired of looking 20 years older than I was. Should I go on? I can you know.

What Kind of Music Do You Love? I'm a R&B Hip Hop gal myself
Ms. Vicki replied to BeacheeGirl's topic in The Lounge
Jachut, I LOVE JesusChrist Superstar. i just bought a CD of Carole King. I wore a hole in my album (of the same) from the 70's. I feel the earth move, under my feet, I feel the sky tumbling down, a tumbling down....... (sorry, I got carried away) -
It is not for me to even begin to understand and explain why you husband said such hurtful words to you. I CAN tell you that we are all here for you. My husband gets that way sometimes when he feels threatened, but we've done a lot of talking about the surgery and what it means to EVERYONE in the family. Lapband does not just affect the person having the procedure. There are implications that trickle down to each family member. He had a lot of insecurities about how I might want "something better" once I got "skinny". Maybe it would help to sit down with DH and let him know how you feel. Make sure your words are about YOUR feelings and how important this is to YOU. Then, ask him what fears/concerns he has about it. Communication is usually the key that can unlock all misunderstandings. Hang in there. We are all here for you.

What Kind of Music Do You Love? I'm a R&B Hip Hop gal myself
Ms. Vicki replied to BeacheeGirl's topic in The Lounge
Love most kinds of music except Rap. Usually listen to contemporary Christian, oldies (70's rock) and country. -

Not a problem today....yet, but the night is still young LOL. I have to admit I usually eat at LEAST one thing daily that is a poor choice.

Hi Cinderella, I live off of HWY 242. We must be neighbors. Welcome to Lapband Land!

TrishS, I'm like you. I learned how in high school, and now, some 35 yrs later, I picked up my needles when some ladies at church started knitting shawls for women in nursing homes. My first project started out as a piece just to see if I remembered how to do it. It was so much fun, I've continued and am about half finished now. Too wide for a scarf, so I guess it will be a shawl. There are a few mistakes here and there; nothing that is noticable, but I know they are there. I'll probably keep it for myself. I usually crochet, but knitting seems more fun right now. Maybe, I'm just tired of crocheting all these years. Both keep my hands full of yarn (instead of food) and my mind occupied (with something other than food).

Let me preface this by saying I have been on a TON of meds because of my MO, so much so, that my kids make fun of how much I take. I am diabetic, have HBP, depression, insomnia and about every other malady associated with MO. I am 3 months into Bandland. From the first day of banding, I was able to quit my insulin injections, which was wonderful. I've lost 33 lbs and am feeling great. Actually, I've been getting dizzy lately and have had frequent episodes of low blood sugar. I went to the Dr. yesterday suspecting my BP was going low and causing the dizzy spells. He agreed, lowered my BP meds, my diabetic meds and my depression meds. He also took me off my sleeping pills. He ran all the usual battery of tests and told me to come back in a week to discuss the results. Well, I got a call today saying I did not need to come back for 3 months, EVERY test was perfect, and even my HC1A was at non-diabetic levels! I am on a natural high and just had to share my NSV! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

FANATASTIC! I am so happy for you. Don't let the pain (if any) get you down. We all go through it and it is totally worth it. It only gets better! Wishing you the best of success! Take care of yourself. Allow others to pamper you. I'm sure you've done for others, now let others do for you. Milk it for all it's worth (tee.hee). You'll be up and around in no time.

I can not imagine how you could make a watermelon pie, but it sounds great. I am on a watermelon "kick" lately. Will you share the recipe?

If it were up to you, what laws would you create?
Ms. Vicki replied to Wheetsin's topic in The Lounge
There should be a law against drivers that wait til the lane ends before trying to get over when there is a road sign saying the lane will end in 1000 feet. I'd rather hit the car in front of me than let them in! AARGGH!!! -
I can read between the lines, NJChick. It looks like me and my hubby.....he's the small one. (In real life, he is 5'0"/160 lbs and I'm 5'6"/300+....see, size doesn't always matter if you know how to use it right .....talk about the odd couple!)

I played hooky from work so I could do my income tax. THAT is goofy.....
-
I used to do the same thing. I would eat whatever I could find. Sometimes would go from one food type to the other, salty, then sweety, back to salty, then sour, then protein, then back to sweet. It was almost like I was doing it in my sleep. There was ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL whatsoever. I could just barely remember binging the next morning. This went on for years, which contibuted highly to my MO. Don't know what changed, but it was before the band. I wish I could tell you what caused it. May never know. I sympathize with you. Let me know if you figure it out.

Maryb, I can so relate to your incident. Last night I ordered a jr burger at Sonic which is usually not a problem for me, but I was hungry and ate it too fast. After eating about 1/3 of the thing, I got a BAD case of slime. I was driving and pulled over......multiple times. Got rid of an unbelievable amount of slime. Thought I was done, drove a little farther, took a sip of tea to help clear my throat. WRONG THING TO DO. I nearly ran into an 18-wheeler before I could pull over. Without going into any further gross detail, let's just say I had to pull in to the next fast food place and clean up. Whew, I've had a hard time holding anything down today, so I guess I really made my band mad! I'm going to take it easy for the next couple of days. As a newbie, I too wondered what was this "PB" and "slime" everyone talked about. I guess you have to experience it (unfortunately) before you fully understand it. It's one of those things you don't wish on your worst enemy........or maybe you do.
