I wish I knew that the sleeve won’t in any way help keep weight off past year 2 and that it is normal for the sleeve to stretch to regular capacity by that point with no reduction in appetite.

At the time of sleeve gastrectomy, mean BMI was 43 and 78% of patients were female. They had a mean follow-up of 5.9 years. Overall, Peterli and colleagues found that the average excessive BMI lost after 1 year was 61.5%, and then 61.1% after 2 years. By 5 years, average excessive BMI lost was 57.4%, they reported.Jul 17, 2013

I am experiencing the panic today, surgery is set for July 4th. I've been great up until now, probably because my Pre-op started on Saturday. And now my mind and belly is telling me " think twice about this" :) Just trying to calm my nerves here, the people have been awesome !!

Yes it's normal to have a little bit of nerves. .It's a major life choice. Obviously you feel the need to have this done. Then do it! Do it for you. Knowledge is power..learn all you can. Defiantly get you vitamins!

  3. I knew something wasent right.. I procrastinated. .my pain wasent getting better but worse..a horrible pain in front shoulder, uncomfortable feeling under left rib. I can all so say the drs here in the states frown on us going to mexico...i figured due to money. Comes to find out it has more to do with cleanliness and safety measures.. I have a feeling it's going to be a long battle.. 3 weeks out can hardly hold an oz of food .. I just want to get healthy ! Resume my life..

  4. Make sure you do your research before going to Mexico for surgery I ended up going to Mexico Bariatric Surgery Center in Mexico what a huge mistake first of all I can say Mexico is not the cleanest it when it comes to being sterile and following protocol for safety measures my Iv fell out and was dragged on the floor the nurse that wanted to reinsert the needle back into my arm. They have a little Tin Cup to keep alcohol and cotton balls together. the tin cup had people's blood on the rim. the showers had bloody bandages clearly not clean. Never once did they change their gloves from Patient to Patient. To top this off I had my surgery they removed 95% of my stomach which here in the States that is not recommended. I returned back here in Michigan and I knew something was not right I decided to go into the hospital to get checked out they lacerated my spleen I was lucky to be alive I immediately contacted Mexico bariatric center they told me that my diagnosis was incorrect that I would have died there basically saying that a CT scan was wrong I tried to contact them raising matters that needed to be corrected for safety purposes they seem to not really care I thought I did my research and it was pretty thorough at what I was looking at boy was I wrong nearly costed me my life!

I’m in Tiajuana right now. Have my VSG tomorrow. Very excited, not really nervous. Time to start this new life. I quit caffeine a couple months ago and dreaded giving up my Decaf coffee with cream, didn’t think I could do it. Started Clear Liquids yesterday, no problem. No problem today either. It’s all in the head. I had to do the 1 week pre op diet but I actually started it about 2 weeks ago and then got perfectly strict 9 days ago. Keto stripped my urine this morning and it was large meaning I’m in Ketosis which is very good because it means my liver has used up all the glycogen stores. I’ve been hungry these past two days due to the liquid diet and when my stomach starts grumbling I just down some Jello and hot tea or my lemon Water. Just an FYI for everyone when you do the liquid pre-op, absolutely make sure you get Bone Broth which has 10 grams of Protein. Protein is Very important for preventing muscle wasting, promoting healing and keeping you a little bit fuller.

    How are you doing?

As the title suggests, I am having to do a liquid pre-op diet for 3 weeks, I’m getting sleeved 6/9. My diet started on Tuesday, 5/19 and it’s now Friday, 5/22 and I am HUNGRY!

I haven’t been hungry like this any other day. My stomach is rumbling and even though I can have broth and sugar free Jello / popsicles, it’s not helping the hunger.

My diet is as follows: 3 Protein Shakes, 2 Protein Bars as Snacks + unlimited low sodium broth, SF hello, SF popsicles.

Any tips or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. My tummy would appreciate it i’m sure!

We are having are surgery on the same date..im curious about your anxiety level?

Hey! How’d surgery go? Any advice for us June sleevers?

I had to reschedule . I go in on the 6th! I will for sure let people know...Dont seem like people share thoughts right after surgery. Unless im not looking in the rite forum.

  12. I had to cancel my surgery for unseen circumstances. Now I have a new date. June 6th leaving the 5th..going to mexico bariatric clinic...i believe things happen for a reason. So far they seem to be more thuro on their process which makes me feel more confident in my decision.

  13. DWell so far I know it's not just about the money. They have us put a deposit done when we schedule. They refunded me in full. I know many places won't do that..paula one of the coordinaters have been. Great with me. All ways answer my questions with in an hour..im pretty confident so far...i leave the 25 have surgery the 26. Come back the 28..pricing is pretty good too. It's not a low budget or high-end. . in the middle..

My original surgery date was April 27th, but was postponed til June 8th. I honestly thought they were going to push it back way further than this, so not too bad. I've got 3 weeks and 1 day to go!

My original date was in March.. Knowing that I was being rescheduled. I gained so much weight . being locked down with covid and eating. I gained 40 pounds since March...my diet for surgery starts Sunday..ugh!
