Tonya VSG Post-op got a reaction from Krimsonbutterflies in A New Life
It has been one week ago Monday (3/2) I started my journey of no return. During the first five days, I became afraid, I thought I had made a mistake. I was in pain, from one of my incisions, suffering with head hunger, and not feeling comfortable after taking my liquids; mildly lethargic, nauseated, and suffering with the worst Constipation. I felt there was nowhere for me to go mentally.
The thought came to mind to use common sense. Since Protein and pain meds can cause constipation, I chose to reduce my protein intake for one day, increase my stool softener, and increase my fluids. I also walked more, and did some reading on this site. The hospital, where my surgery was performed, provided the link to this site as a resource. The experiences of so many have truly assisted me to become unafraid, and forward moving. Thank you😘

Hi I'm 61 y/o and a colleague of mine had vsg a couple of yrs ago she is 50 something. She has mentor me thru this process. I can say her experience, which motivates me is remembering when post-op commence is EXERCISE and keep to your Protein, and low carb intake. Yes there's loose skin, especially if you had it before you began to lose weight, but as you build muscle overtime, you can reduce it to a minimal degree. The amount of loose skin is dependent upon, as you may know, the amount of skin elasticity remaining. So for me, I expect to have an amount I may have to dress up (LOL). My colleague is a "beast" when it comes to exercise and she looks amazing, also her diet is vegan base. However, as have been commented, you are going to be so happy with your weight reduction, and when you stall be glad because you can use that to build muscle, and reduce fat. to get ahead of the loose skin, possibly If you loose fat quickly, you will gain loose skin quickly. Thirty something! Girl you're a babe. You are going to look magnificent.

Same happened, colace and hot coffee in the morning worked me. I also stopped the Protein daily and went to every other day until I was finally unblocked. Which worked right away.

Tonya VSG Post-op reacted to LMH41 in Post op diet
Hi everyone. My surgery date is 02-20-20. I liked the date. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m on Protein Shakes and Clear Liquids and get my staples out next Thursday, so I’m right there with you all.
Anyway, I had the RNY back before it was cool or before much research had been done about it—nearly 14 years ago. It was amazingly successful. I was on my treadmill in 18 hours. I went from 261 to 155 after a Tummy Tuck (the extra skin gets gross).
But over time, I slowly was able to tolerate anything I wanted, and ultimately ended up back at 267. So I was approved for a revision for DS (duodenal switch) surgery.
This experience was not like the last quick laparoscopic one. Last Thursday I came out of the OR with a 13” incision down my abdomen recovery has been awful.
I’m in no rush to move onto soft foods, because I remember being at the 5 year mark and unable to lose weight when I wanted to for the first time. My Dr. told me to go back to the post-op Diet for a month and it really worked. Then I tried it at the 10 year mark and it didn’t do anything.
So as much as it sucks having family around you able to consume everything, just know that your 1-month weigh-in is going to blow your socks off unlike anything you have experienced, so my advice is to enjoy the journey. The longer you can tolerate the liquids, the faster your initial weight loss will be. And although you will lose a lot of weight throughout the first year, you will never lose as rapidly as you will during the first 30 days post-op. And you only get one chance at that. So, as hard as it may seem some days, be patient and don’t rush this opportunity.
Congratulations to everyone. Here’s to a new and improved life!
