  1. I had lap band placed on July 3rd. Yesterday I thought I was doing wonderful. Last night and today is a different story. I don't know if I over did it with drinking liquids to fast or if it is additional gas pains. I feel this uncomfortable fullness in my chest & it feels like I'm going to explode. I walk around and try to make it better but only helps for a minute. I can't get hardly any liquids down without having this feeling. Is anyone else experiencing this or do I need to call dr. I am forcing myself to drink becuase I need Protein & liquids. I'm just a little concerned cause I feel like I'm going backwards instead of foward. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Kim:confused2:

oh yes, it's gas. You've got to MOVE. Move, move, move. It is really awful, I know. I would even have trouble breathing which would cause me to panic. Ugh. Seriously, you've got to move. And, don't even waste your money on GasX...it does nothing. Good luck...with me, the gas lasted about one week. (actually, 5 days, because I didn't get it right away).

  2. I don't give a rats a$$ what people say to me or think about me. If I were a drug addict and they expressed their opinion, that would be acceptable. Trouble is, I'm a food addict and the difference is that we need food to live. We don't need illegal drugs to live. I'm going to be going to a family reunion in early August and I know I'm going to be faced with questions about why I'm not chowing down on Cookies, potato salad, sausage hoagies and downing a brew or 5. But, I'm ready for it. My health is my priority and I am the only person who can control it. The same people who talk smack are the same ones who will stand over your casket after you've suffered a fatal stroke and say, "I always thought she was too heavy". pff. Stay strong and good luck!

  3. I was surprised to hear your surgeons orders. I was banded on 6/27 and had to have Water, broth, tea, Jello, you know, clear liquids. The 2nd week I could have full liuids, like Campbells Soup at Hand, skim milk, soy milk, applesauce, Protein powders added, other Soups (put through the blender first)...then next week I start mushies. Based on all that I've read on these forums, your situation does appear different.

  4. I am really enjoying cooking for my family. I am cooking the way I want to eat when I get to that point. For lunch, I made my son and husband a nice green salad with grilled chicken on top. For dinner I made chicken and salmon. I had fresh pineapple and watermelon, and raw fresh carrots and celery sticks and some white rice. There were biscuits too, but I didn't put all of them on the table. I feel like I own a restaurant and I'm serving them reasonable sized portions. It's nice to have the next 3-4 weeks to re-learn how to choose, cook and how to serve healthy choices. Now, when I'm salivating over the meal, I'll re-read this post to remind myself of the goal...

  5. Entering the 2nd week. Struggling a little with hunger. Ideas for 2nd week liquids would be so welcome. As I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong), I can have skim milk. Can I have these things: V-8 juice, Yogurt smoothies (store bought), the smoothies from the recipes on this site, campbells Soup at hand, other Soups put through a blender (?), milkshakes (made with skim milk and sugar free ice cream). Any ideas would be so appreciated.

NSV - Put on a pair of pants yesterday that fit me before surgery...but yesterday, they were just too big! I had to keep hiking them up!

    Happy July 4th Everyone

  6. Flavored Water, regular Water, tea (hot), tea (cold), water with KO Protein mix, vegetble broth, chicken broth, Diet Sun Drop, Jello, popsicles. I don't know how I'm going to get through the next two days. I am looking forward to the 2nd week where I can add some milk, some Protein powder to the milk. My doctors orders are clear liuids for one week. Help, how can I get through the next two days?!

Also, isn't it funny...I never realized how many food commercials there are on TV until I was banded. Thank God for the DVR and I can fast forward through them.

  7. I just left Barnes and Noble sure that I would find some great books regarding "Life After Bariatric Surgery"...no. Nothing. I'm looking for some resources on ideas for eating, especially in the 2-6 weeks period. During the time I need to eat "mushies" I am traveling and I really need to know what to pack for food. I won't be hitting any restaurants at all. Plus, I want a good variety because the temptation at the resort where I am going (business trip) will be tough to handle! Is there a web-site with this information? Maybe something that could even be printed out?

  8. you will probably have to go to an informtional seminar first. I'm sure it will be easy to find one. Lapband.com probably can help. If you are on medication for hypertension, high cholesterol or diabetes, that is a help with the insurance company. I didn't "quite" have a high enough BMI, but I am on medication.

Especially, read all that you can in these forums. They are SO helpful. So personal, so honest and we are all real people who have been in your shoes... I wish you all the best.

  9. Best wishes to you. My advice, don't go back to work too soon. Be sure you have a good variety of liquids in the house. Don't plan on getting on the laptop tomorrow night if you get to come home...you'll definately need sleep. Be sure to have a nice cushy pillow in your bed to prop under your belly. Get some great magazines and take care of YOU. Look forward to hearing from you in the POST-op forum. Good luck.

  10. I look forward to it NOT being an effort to roll over in bed. * I look forward to not having a rash in between my thighs when trying to wear a skirt or dress. * I look forward to having an XL t-shirt be BIG. * I look forward to being able to take a shower with my husband. * I look forward to wearing heals, not because they are uncomfortble, but because I will not be afraid to teeter over. * Looking forward to not buying underwear made with lycra. * Looking forward to it NOT being an effort to get out of a little car. * Looking forward to going to the buffet and not having other people be turned off. * I'm looking forward to being off blood pressure medication. * I'm looking forward to playing a game of kick-ball and actually running the bases. * I'm looking forward to being healthy. * I look forward to dancing on a dance floor and not just bopping in my chair.

    We'll all get there! Yeah!

  11. I am having these pains today and they are killing me! The day after my surgery wasn't this bad. I held out for hours, but I just took some of my hydrocodone...trouble is, I don't see how that will work if it is indeed GAS. Worse than that, I called my doctor TWICE in two hours and he still has not called me. I am so mad. Let's try to hang in there. ~sigh~

  12. He just performed my surgery last Friday. He's a sweetheart. He takes his time with you, answers any question and is compassionate. His staff is wonderful too. My husband had never met him until the day I had surgery and he was impressed too. Good luck. I look forward to hearing from you as to how it's going. FYI - After my case was submitted to insurance, I heard from the doctors office less than a week later with a date!

  13. I have told people, but only the people I know will be supportive and not push their opinions on me. I haven't told dh's dad's side of the family and I don't plan too unless they ask about me loosing weight after the fact. I don't wanna deal with the "are you sure that's what you wanna do?" and I don't want them calling me everyday seeing how I am doing. My mom, dad, and sister know, but we haven't told extended family yet. My husband's mom and grandparents know.

Good luck! I started my journey in March and after all the appointments, tests, doctors visits, etc., I was banded on 6/27. It will be here before you know it!

  14. My best guess would be gas. My nurse in the hospital told me that they have to fill u with co2 when doing the surgery. So you will have excess gas. I had my gas under my ribs and in my shoulder. I am 2 1/2 weeks out and still have shoulder pain from gas. But my nurse also said, Gas-x wont do a thing, its like taking gas-x for a headache. Hope i could help and good luck!!

Yeah, and I can hear all this noise in my abdomen area...the gas voices. Yeah, the GasX isn't really touching it. Man, it hurts! I definately went back to work too soon, but thankfully after today, I have the rest of the week off!

  15. I was banded on 6/27 and all those liquids do get boring. I've been trying different flavored broths, and have looked for lower sodium. I enjoy the flavored waters. The sugar free jellos are great. The Life Savers sugar free popsicles are so yummy. I also have found a "no sugar added" apple juice which I really enjoy at lunch (Motts). The alernative, dehydration is much worse, so please, keep sipping. I read somewhere where you could also have sugar free sorbet or italian ice during the first week...I haven't ventured out for that yet. Good luck
