My dad always told me that when you cant stop dwelling on what people say about you, you are letting them live rent free in your head. Well...there was a comment made on Sunday that I cant seem to evict!

My husband and I were visiting my inlaws in another state. We attended the church where my FIL is a preacher. We always attend church with them when we visit. Last visit we made was 2 weeks post op, so I had not lost really anything at that point. This was the first time the people at the church have seen me since my extreme weight loss. A lot of people made comments about how great I looked, and that didnt bother me at all. However, two ladies came up to my husband and I, told me I looked so good, then they turned to my husband and said, "looks like you really made out on that deal!" My husband laughed and said, "Yeah my investment really paid off!" For background, we got married two months before my surgery.

I tried to laugh it off in the moment, but I really had to bite back tears. I have never felt that my husband looked at me any differently at 284 or 140. He himself has said that he only saw me, never my weight. He says he loves me regardless.

Both comments, from the lady AND my husband's reply has been on repeat in my head all week. Who finds that comment appropriate to say to anyone?? I was a catch at my HW and I am no more or less of a catch at my CW. He didnt marry me hoping I would lose weight and look better physically, at least I would certainly HOPE not, seeing as he is overweight himself.

It was inappropriate and hurtful. Normally, I would address my husbands comment with him in private. However, our marriage has been rough (to say the least) lately and I didnt want to start an argument. I know he will tell me that it was a joke, I am being too sensitive and overthinking it. Which...maybe I am but that doesnt make the comments hurt less.

I dont know...I guess i just needed to vent to people that would understand!

Speak your truth! Be Authentic! Share your feelings! I am sorry you're having troubles/issues/situations in your marriage, but if this is bothering you and makes you feel sad that he isn't able to defend you to anyone friends/family/or a stranger you should say something.

If others think I'm being too sensitive or too emotional because I'm saying say something, well I can't help how they think - communication is the most important in any relationship whether it be a spouse, friend, coworker, granted you can be hurt but you can also grow by telling them. I mean how is anyone ever suppose to guess what is bothering you about anything. Now if he says he doesn't care how he made you feel that speaks volumes.

If your husband expects you to defend his honor in situations then it shouldn't be bother for him to do the same for you.

Also I never understood how someone can tell you how to feel, like do you tell your husband how he should feel - like someone saying you're too sensitive, it was a joke just means they're trying to deflect their responsibility of their actions and words.

My hospital gave me a card stating that I had had gastric sleeve surgery and to allow me to order order reduced portions or from the kids menu. I'm curious if anyone else received something similar and if they have used it. Not that I'm thinking of eating out ANYTIME soon but I was just curious.

I have a card, but I never use it. I just order off the kids menu - or an appetizer all the time. Or I share. What I mean by all the time too is like over past year like 6 times hahah. I haven't eaten out much since my surgery in Jan 2020 because COVID-19 and living in California that had nothing open but takeout for a long time.

I've never had a waitstaff person say no you can't order off kids menu yet, but if they did give me a hard time I think I would tell them I have dietary restrictions and ask to speak to the manager if it really became a problem. I tell as few as people as possible about my surgery - it's no one's business our medical condition.

My wife is not much of a FF fan. Chick Fil A is about it for her. She wants to be seted and served. Yeah I will tag a long and get an appetizer or salad. Just not a big deal to me but she likes it so we will go!

Yeah I meant when I go out (um I live in California we're still pretty much locked down still we do have some outside dinning, so really we've been out like maybe 5 times in 2020 since I've had surgery) I share his meal, I don't know if you noticed but just about any restaurant you go to has a full days of calories in them with all the sides and whatnot in one meal. So I guess if she doesn't want to share then yeah an appetizer is good but you'll still need a box I think - never force yourself to eat more than you need. I also get that your a 6ft man and I am a 5'2ft woman. But hubby and I've shared meals and he never feels deprived of getting enough food.

  4. In the beginning it was weird - like it was just mind thinking I'm hungry. Now if I feel hungry I drink some more Water to see if it's that. I more feel like I try to prefuel myself if I'm going hiking - I try to eat the Protein Bar or drink a Protein Shake about 20ish minutes before I start. I have found for me if I am hiking over an hour or 2 by that second hour if I haven't eaten I feel weak. So I don't really get hungry while hiking but I get weak.

I've started to feel hungry now a days but again I always make sure I check in with myself to make sure I'm truly hungry or if I just think I am. Head games -

I think 🤔 my hunger is not as bad at all like before either. I use to be ravenous- HANGRY.

My wife loves to go out to eat. She does not have a weight problem at all...just enjoys the process. I hve to eat out when I travel on business a few days each month pre Covid. One I get the vaccine I will travel some again...just not yet.

I share meals with my husband, maybe she'll share with you. Take a Protein bar with you and sit with her. I understand eating out is the most social thing we do. But try not to eat FF, if you want fillers find Protein Bars you like and have one. Drinkable Protein Shakes, add a piece of cheese if it feels it's not enough. My husband always laughs because I always have "pocket cheese" 1 ounce tillamok cheddar squares with me everywhere (just in case i happen to get hungry) Or 1 mozzarella string cheese.

Everyone just wants you to be successful- I have had Taco Bell - 1 taco bell supreme taco without shell and they put it in a bowl for me. I've tried to have 2 but never can finish it. I've had cheeseburger without bun from McDonald's as well. I ordered from kids menu from Red Robin had grilled chicken fingers (which was just cut up grilled chicken breast) Other than that I don't eat fast food. Out on the road there are so many protein shakes which will give you 30 grams of protein that are so much better as a lunch option. But if you don't think it will work for you, then it won't.

Lasting life changes. I'm still only a year into this and I drink either protein Water or protein collagen water every day as a meal. On my yearly check up which was 2 weeks ago surgeon was impressed with my blood work all levels great.

This is my very first post! I had RNY / hiatal hernia surgery for severe reflux due to my BMI. Gastric bypass was never my first choice but I figured it would be a win-win. Fix the reflux and lose weight! My surgery was February 24, 2021. Today is postop day four. I was down to 278 before surgery. Today I am 283!!!! I am in shock that eating 400 cal a day, 60 g of Protein (and I’ve been able to drink about 50 ounces of Water every day!) I still haven’t lost weight - in fact it’s gone up. I was in the hospital for two days because of severe pain and had a lot of IV fluids so this could be it but I don’t feel swollen? Did this happen to anybody immediately postop? 😬

I don't know if it happened or not, I didn't weigh myself for the first 3 weeks after I left the hospital - you need to be focusing on Protein, Vitamins, fluids - Water.

I know I know you want to have lost weight - seems like you should have, but yes pumped full of fluids and you don't need to feel bloated to be retaining lots of water. Also, I'm pretty sure no bowel movements yet either?

As other people have said it and I know easier said then done, get away from the scale.

Also I suggest picking a day to weigh - for me I weigh every Tuesday because that was my surgery date. If I happen to step on a scale any other day then that day, I don't freak out if I am up or Celebrate if I am down, those weights don't count.

Also if you've looked at other posts on the forums, after about week 6-8 a stall that happens for most people. Or sometimes it's only .2 losses for a moment and that freaks people out too.

I just had a zoom appointment with my dietitian and I need to vent. I am taking my Vitamins, hitting my 80 grams of Protein, getting my 90 ounces of Water and my labs are coming back good. I am no longer needing my blood pressure meds and my diabetic medications. I thought this was going to be a good job all is well kind of meeting and go about my day. I was just bumped up to regular foods with no restrictions.

Well that didn't go as planned.

I was instead given a type of menu that looks like trouble to me. There is no way I can eat 800 calories a day right now much less some of the things on this.

800 calories a day just seems pretty high to me??? Anyone else think that a month out when your sleeve is still super restrictive and weight is falling off that 800 calories is a lot?? Am I being a little psycho about this???

My app tells me that I will almost be doubling my intake, right now I am averaging between 400 and 425 a day? I was actually getting more calories in when I was doing just liquids in when I was drinking Protein Shakes, now I am low on Protein I am drinking an extra Bone Broth for 50 calories instead of the 150 calories in a shake>

Anyway, I will do what they tell me I guess since its worked so far but I am freaking out a bit and I really do not know how I will be able to bump up that much without feeling miserable most of the day :(

If you think 800 is too much for your body, right now then you should not do it. I get that she is the nutritionist but it's your body and no two bodies are alike. I wasn't anywhere near 800 calories one month out. I am almost at a year and some days still only hit 800. On days I have longer workouts I do hit 900-1,000 calories but I am almost at a year now. Most importantly how do you feel, I don't think you should feed yourself or force more on yourself than you need. Also no stretching your stomach, you need to really stop and listen to your body.

Gosh I don't know how you get in 90 ounces of Water, I struggle with that every day. Keep up the good work.

I feel like this month I’ve been over-eating :( anyone going through the same?

    How's it going now?

I feel like I am eating more but still staying under my calorie intake that is recommended- I try super hard to listen to my body. I try also to think 🤔 am I really hungry or am I thirsty....

Try maybe eating healthy Snacks to help eat less calories.

Do you think you're stretching your stomach? Is that why it's worrying you or are you going over your calorie allotment for the day too?

WHEN did you start REALLY WORKING OUT?

I'm 2 months post-op from the sleeve and mostly happy with my weight loss. I've been walking, doing a little yoga, stretching, and a little light weight training at home with a 5/10/15 kettlebell set my brother gave me for my August birthday.

However, now I really want to tone up more. I'm thinking of braving my local Recreation Centers that have great weight/circuit training/cardio equipment in January or February 2021 when I'm 3 months or 4 months out. Of course, my plans will be dependent on the ever-growing COVID-19 numbers drastically decreasing. (Man, Listen---I'm not happy at all that I paid my yearly dues in February and then the Va Beach Rec Centers closed in March. )

When did you really start doing dedicated workouts?

If you work out at home, what do you do? Did you invest in any equipment?

So walking I know it sounds so boring - is the best workout ever. But I think I was at least 8 weeks, I know I tried riding bike but it was too soon. I didn't ride my bike until like 10 weeks and felt confident I wouldn't hurt myself. Hiking like with incline and such wasn't for 12 weeks either. Yoga w/strength training happened closer to 16 weeks. I didn't want to injure myself as that was when Covid was not good here (which in hindsight sounds stupid because it's worse now) and I had no desire to go to doctors.

I would just try what you want and stop if it actually feels like it hurts. Don't strain yourself or push yourself too hard, but yeah go get it GURL!

    Hello

I am 12 weeks out from gastric sleeve and have only loss 18 pounds. Is that normal?

Not sure how much you were expecting to lose in in 2 weeks before surgery but that's 1.28 pounds per day. I lost like 4 pounds before my WLS - on a freaking liquid diet. I mean seriously how is that even possible?! But it is what it is, now after surgery I have "good" weeks of losses and what I consider a "bad" week with loss of nothing or .2 gain. Bodies are weird, there is no real "normal" because everyone is so different.

Just stick with your program as best you can - I think you're going to do great if you lost 18 before surgery. Just omg don't weigh yourself right after surgery and getting home. They pump you full of fluids. I don't think I weighed myself for 3 full weeks after surgery.

Exercise. Taking a walk is so therapeutic on so many levels.

Walk in nature for stress, especially by a beach or Water (lake/river), you can try mediation, not sure when you had surgery but yoga 🧘‍♀️

Do fun things not involving food - paint rocks, watch a movie, put a puzzle together, listen to music and dance, ride bike.

Now, with WLS, I have been able to keep the 120lbs I lost off of me for SEVENTEEN MONTHS so far. Again, there is no mystery to this: I eat much less and I exercise every day. Yes, I am doing this myself, but the WLS gives me a HUGE boost (at least with the eating part...I actually have no idea why I stay active all this time, and actually like it, GASP!)

I'm going to tell you why I think you stay active, carrying the extra weight that we have for how ever many years that we did is tiring. It also I think causes some self confidence issues for some. I find it so much easier/ so less taxing to say hike 4 miles. Then when I did it pre-surgery, because I weigh 80+ pounds less, which is huge. I can actually bend and do things with my body which I had never been able to do before. Maybe it's like that for you too. I'm constantly amazed at how much I can do and not be as tired as the week before.

  13. Well I am at 7 months out from my surgery now. I think I am on track as I just passed 80 pounds lost mark. hair is starting to thin 🥺 so guess I am going to be one of the stats of people who lost hair. I was hoping it wasn't going to be me, but what else can I do.

My birthday is coming up and I am excited but also it's weird 2020 so not having a big party like normal. All partying will be virtual via zoom.

One thing that has also happened is the shorts I bought 2 months ago at beginning of June are very baggy now and can almost just fall down by themselves- so I've had a super productive summer. Dang that's just crazy. Thrift stores around here aren't open and I wish they were so I could just shop for some properly fitting clothes in the interim sizes.

I've been doing Yoga for the past 13 days every day, it's a 10 minute morning yoga challenge I found on Youtube and I really feel like I'm getting stronger by adding it to my workout routine. I feel like I am also stretching and becoming way more limber than before.

What's new with everyone? How are things going in your journey? Got any new exercise routines you're doing, any new activities?

Hello All, I've been out of touch as I hurt my shoulder back in Feb. Have been continuing Physical therapy for my broken patella (broke in 1/2 last year June) Finally able to see Dr. about my shoulder in May, had to schedule surgery 7/9. Today is 4 weeks post op on shoulder and 7 months 1 week post op for sleeve surgery. I'm now in a full arm cast for the past 4 weeks....2 more weeks to go(hopefully, Dr. said may need 8 weeks).
I've lost 41 lbs. to date. Been a bit rough with stalls I've had and junk eating during height of covid-19.
My biggest problem is getting my veggies in. I average 40-50g Protein and 40-48 ounces Water a day. Had bloodwork done, my Cholesterol went up!! I've never had high cholesterol! Good news blood sugar went down. Dr. took me off metformin. Soooo happy about that. Since I had my shoulder surgery, had to cancel 6 month post op with stomach Dr. I'm trying to work on getting Cholesterol down before I see him.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

Also, congratulations to everyone who's doing so well. I've read all the posts a b d seems like its going good for all.

I've had surgery on both cuffs. You'll get through it. Be sure and do your physical therapy. A friend decided it hurt too much to move. His shoulder 'froze up' and he had to have another surgery to 'break it lose'.

Just my experience but I gain weight every time I have surgery. They pump the fluids to you. BTW, I gained over five pounds during my sleeve surgery. It was gone rather quickly.

Same right after surgery because of all the fluids they pump in - I gained weight too but with a week that plus more was gone.

I'm 6 months post sleeve and haven't lost in 3 weeks. Diet good, carbs are low, less than 50 net per day..usually around 30. I've been fluctuating the same 3 lbs for almost a month. Some say honeymoon ends at 6 months, others say 1 year. I still have 50-60lbs to go to hit goal...and even then, I'll still be considered overweight according to BMI.

    I am SCARED!

Are you exercising? I held same 3-5 pounds for nearly 3 weeks, wasn't until 4 week of weighing in did I finally start losing and it seems melting off again. But I am exercising about an hour at least a day - walking, hiking, yoga (I can do freaking "some" yoga) biking. Oh and I finally found some pools I can swim in.

Just wondering about the exercise component- but I say just keep on keeping and log everything at the time you eat and drink it.

  17. Hey all it's August! Where are we all at in our journeys- our thread is hella dead 😂🤣 Well I myself don't come check in usually either, except every Tuesday on Weigh In days. Do you all have set weigh in days? I weigh in on surgery day, which was a Tuesday. Sometimes I'll step on the scale but I don't "log" it. I try not to make myself crazy though by putting so much pressure on my numbers.

Life is good for me, this Covid thing has really thrown me into working out though. I hike a lot. I don't work so hiking or biking are the only things I really go out of the house for anymore. It's so nice being smaller for hiking - some of the trails I use to hike when I weighed 300 pounds and I'm like I was amazing for doing it. Because now it's so "easy" I've become one of "those" people who can carry on a conversation while hiking - I just hated those people before 🙄🤦‍♀️

My food intake is still strange. The other day I overate - I kind of knew it too. I didn't listen to myself and was like I can have 2 more bites, well NO - you can not have 2 more bites! Those 2 bites threw me into an awfulness I don't want to repeat. The 2 bites were vegetables, I have such a hard time getting in veggies, because I need my Protein. Anyone having difficulty with finding the balance of still eating veggies?

Anyway would love to know how everyone is doing heading into this 7th month. Are you loving your "new" improved Life?

  18. I on average stay under 800 and between 65-80 grams Protein daily. But I am also not losing at fast as you, I wasn't having enough stamina for hiking when I was at 600ish calories, like physically felt like I couldn't go further and make it back, so I just upped it. Now when I am hiking I don't feel completely exhausted before the end. I saw my doctor for my check up and he seemed please with my loss so far and he was fine with my calorie intake. I think it all depends on how you personally feel too, never pushing yourself to eat more just to ear more. IDK

I was sleeved 11/15/19, so I'll be 7 months post-op soon.. ive had a longer recovery road than normal but recently felt I may be time to get into fitness...I tried CrossFit and my body definitely let me know "hey this is too much"...I almost feel like I failed simply because I wasn't able to push myself but had to listen to my body. Also wasn't aware of how intense CrossFit was. Anyways, any pointers of how to begin exercise without injuring myself? I know I'll need to ease into it for sure..

Wow I commend you for trying CrossFit but yeah, that's cray insane for just starting out. Like others definitely try walking, a little jogging, hiking with hills, Tennis, biking, Ujam, Zumba, Dancing. Weights at home are easy hand weights are inexpensive or sometimes you can get them for free on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace or Freecycle (sorry not sure where you live) so which resources are good for you to look for weights for cheap. There are a ton of Youtube videos showing different hand weight exercises. Squats, Lunges, are super helpful as well. Oh I almost forgot Yoga 🧘‍♀️ I know it sounds "cheesy" but it really helps with stretching and flexibility while building your muscles.

Like what Winston said up there build up your endurance, cardio, and stamina before trying Crossfit or any super physical activity again. You did not fail, just need to start out at an activity level more in tune with your fitness currently.

Good Luck 🍀 👍 You can do this.

I work out at 5:15 am M-F. On some days I will drink a 4oz Protein Shake on the way home. For Breakfast, I normally have an egg muffin (eggs, spinach, mushrooms, cheese and bacon) . Some days I have half a pack of instant grits with a half a slice of cheese (measures 4oz.) I normally have lunch at 1:15. It is 4oz of whatever I have made for dinner for the week Usually something with chicken or beef. I am a big fan of Beans and brown rice. dinner at about 7-7:30 after a walk/run in the park. It is usually also 4oz of the second meal I made for the week. Usually something with chicken. I really get what I consider, "Hungry" at about 11 am-11:30 am and about 4-4:30pm. If I give in to the hunger, it is a 100 calorie pack of nuts/with cranberries. I do also sometimes give in to Pork rinds. After I eat dinner, I am soon off to bed so I usually don't eat afterwards. I am still losing and am less than 20 from my initial goal.

I think you are eating a lot of carbs which are making you hungry - I mean Beans, brown rices, egg muffin (is there a muffin involved) I would try and see if maybe upping your Protein intake, and lowering your carbohydrates intake helps satiate you. Also how many calories a day are you aiming for, I guess if the dietitian thinks it's fine it is but like what you're eating seems like low calories 🤷🏼‍♀️ especially since you workout twice a day.

I don't think snacking is huge problem if you are having healthy Snacks within your daily calorie/carb/protein plan either. But always need to decide is this just because I'm bored or because I'm truly hungry. I myself get hungry which I was hoping would not be the case, I was hoping the feeling of being hungry was going to go away for longer.

I'm so glad to see this topic because I am not planning on telling anyone. Not my parents, not my siblings, and definitely not my coworkers. It is between me and my doctors.

My coworkers are obsessive about their weight and talk about their diets and workouts constantly. Several of us just went back to the office after working from home for two months, and they all spent the first hour talking about how much weight they lost and complimenting each other on their weight loss. They generally leave me out of it because I guess it's obvious I'm not into that. Funny thing is that I've lost 25 pounds in the last two months and nobody noticed. I'm a very private person in general, so they usually leave me alone, but I'm afraid they're going to start asking questions once I start losing rapidly after surgery. They're very brazen about discussing weight; one time, a coworker straight up asked our boss how much he weighs!

Omg just tell them if they ask low carb and calorie restriction and exercise all of which will be true. If you even have to say anything at all. It's no ones business but gosh that sounds awful.

My 4 month follow-up was yesterday. I'm down just over 50 lbs and (according to the numbers) have lost 33% of my excess weight. It's a good feeling, especially when combined with wearing clothes that wouldn't fit at the beginning of the year.

Fortunately, my dog keeps me active, even in the lock-down. I do miss going to the gym though, and I'd just gotten into a good workout groove when everything came to a grinding halt.

The people I see at work keep telling me "you're melting away" and my wife is very encouraging as well, so I've got plenty of support thankfully, but I know I've still got work to do. The biggest goal I have right now is to get under 250. I'm only about 7 lbs away. That will be a big day for me.

The only real struggle I have post-surgery is the uncomfortable "heaviness" feeling that comes when I eat beef or chicken. I'm told this is a normal thing and could last a while, so I'll continue to put up with it and/or avoid the steak and chicken breasts.

Hope ya'll are all doing well.

Yep, I can't eat chicken 🍗 🐔 🐓 either. So far steak and most other types of meat have been fine. You'll be down those 7 pounds soon. Congratulations 🎉 🎈 🍾

    It's MY time!

Oh ok Friday! You got this Good Luck 🍀 and know we're rooting for you. Take advantage of the pain meds to get up and walk as soon as you can. Walking all the air they put into you before going home. Make sure you have all your pills you'll need at home to stay comfortable. Don't push yourself to do too much too fast. Stick to your surgeons instructions. They're not mean they're trying to help you so there are no complications. Be patient with yourself. New normal is weird. If your surgeon is like mine he wants you to have best possible outcome (then his numbers look good too) 😂

    You go GIRL! 👏🏻 🎉
