    January 2020 Surgery Folks

Today marks 15 weeks out of surgery and I am finally down 50 - 52.4 pounds. Feels like a celebration to me. I got stalled in my 250's - it seems like for 2 1/2 weeks I was barely losing anything. But I never changed and stayed on course. Worked on making sure I ate protein, drank water and did 30 minutes of activity a day (usually ride bike or walk) I have casual tried some yoga. I live in California so we've been on lockdown (shelter in place) since middle of March so no gym workouts. Also for activity I've been dancing around a lot in my room with Twitch DJ's. Turned my bedroom into a "dance club" 😂 My husband has been calling me a shrinky dink lol and say I have chicken legs. No friends have seen me for awhile. When I get to finally see people, especially those who don't know about my surgery, they're probably going to be like WHAT happened to you. How is everyone else doing emotionally, physically, mentally? How are my January surgery peeps doing out there?!!

burping after drinking. I hiccup after eating - I usually stop before hiccup and it comes a few minutes after I stopped. But if I don't stop and think I can still have another bite or something, it just comes. Everyone in the house now says...You're done. Even the 9 year old.

    Cheated on liquid diet

Yeah the first week probably not a huge deal, but just know it's not to be mean it's meant for you to be healthy. I think yes some surgeons do have a different procedure bases on different clients. My surgeon has like some of the strongest restrictions but that's what keeps his record 100% successful with no major complications or deaths. The diet after your surgery is super important to follow. Is it boring yes so much. But it's so you don't hurt yourself. So please do all you can to keep the diet and good luck 🍀 in your progress. You can do this!
  7. I'm what 9 1/2 weeks out. (Oh 9 1/2 weeks is an old movie 🎥) I've been on shelter in place for 3 weeks now, it's so cray cray sometimes. I'm doing some walks and bike rides too but gosh I wish I could out be doing more. This is the perfect season to hike, but some of the best hiking is not really social distancing because the trails are too narrow. What is everyone doing to stay busy and activities you're doing to help stay active in the new lifestyle? I've been doing some coloring, playing some online games. I've been baking for the family 😂 I don't eat any of it but I keep making it. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ I'm bored.
  8. Yes and sometimes mine still is super loud. we were playing a board game and my stomach was so noisy after drinking my water through out the whole game,

Sick of lockdown/quarantine/shelter in place that's for sure. Been doing nothing but walking around neighborhood or riding bike, quick grocery store trips maybe once a week. Been home since March 13th, orders for California where I live are to continue this until May 3rd. 😭 Today is the 3rd anniversary of my mom's passing and I'm suppose to be with my sister. But no traveling, had to cancel my flights to see her. I physically can't eat more than about 3 1/2 ounces of food which is super helpful because I think I would totally be gaining weight if I could eat more. I've been doing "very well" with my hydration as I track like I'm on crack every ounce of fluid going into my body and usually hitting about 70 ounces. I was on a keto diet prior to doing WLS and have pretty much continued that but more protein then fat diet, but not very many veggies. How do people fit in veggies when protein is your main objective? The struggle is real. Also how to get in so much protein besides drinking it when we have to wait 15-20 minutes before and after eating to drink again and we need so much liquid. It's like there are not enough hours in the day. I know I'm crazy spiraling sorry. As for weight loss, gosh I feel like I should weigh less by now. I mean I exercise regularly and I eat/drink less than 800 calories a day and my active calories per day are anywhere from 800-1200. Total calories burned daily like 3000-4600. The math just doesn't seem to add up to me 🤷🏼‍♀️ I miss hugs 🤗 I am an extrovert and this being cooped up is killing me.

I haven't gotten to if you had other responses yet, just thought I would say. I have been taking a pill first thing in the morning with my first drinks of water when I wake up. Long before I eat, usually like at least an hour or so before I will eat any real food. It's really been helping.

    Disappointed...

I hope you used the breathing thing while you were and the hospital and while getting out to get your lung capacity as strong as it was before. I worry so much about just gotten surgery people to get the virus 🦠 Especially because I feel like right after surgery we're so weak and building up vitamins back into our bodies. Stay safe and good luck.
  12. Well not on quarantine but order to Shelter in place. I have still been going out for walks as that is allowed. We're not sick but a lot of people in our country and area counties are sick. They're trying to prevent it from spreading to even more. So I go out biking or walking and stay more than 6 feet away from people. I haven't been to the store, for over a week.
  13. Ask for nausea medication maybe? I also am still taking my acid reflux med, if you took one before see if you can still take it or take to your surgeon's office and get one. I'm sorry you feel awful and yes it's just "normal" to feel so crummy at first.

Well I found a lot of time if I'm hungry I noticed I need to drink water. Sometimes I have to set a timer to remind me to drink, every 15 minutes. I know I'm further along than you. I did have 1 egg like before 2nd week was over but took like an hour to eat it 🤦🏼‍♀️ The next time when I had seen Zare I had egg with cheese 🤭 and it was good, but still took forever to eat it. Everyone is so different. Dr Zare put me on shots that was the hardest thing and oh god the med he has me on for gallstones I hate it.

    Day 12 feeling really crappy

12 days is still so short of time to be feeling great. I mean I know everyone says that but the new normal sucks and wow you've been having your cycle for the past 11 days. Have you been menstruating that whole time? I got my period myself way early and it was longer than normal and I think my iron was low during that time which made me tired. Also it's a mind game too. I know you're tired and tired of being fat but it wasn't over night that we got this way. I know our expectations are so great and we compare ourselves to others, which makes it even harder to feel better. Also I don't know how your diet was before and if you were as low carb before your surgery, you could be kind of experiencing your body go through sugar withdrawals, I went on the Keto diet prior to surgery. The nutritionist was fine with it (I saw my nutritionist like at month 1 and had 5 to go) she wanted me to transition to low carb less fat closer to my surgery date but I remember getting off sugar and it was pretty awful. Did you have to do 10 days of full liquid diet prior to surgery? So many surgeons are so different, that's why I ask. I'm sorry there isn't just one little thing to fix and a variety of reasons why you might not feel so great. I'm wishing you the best of luck 🍀 in figuring it out. ❤️ Lean on the message boards if you don't have a great support system at home. Everyone seems to be pretty great on here.

Ah I haven't gone to any support groups yet, don't know if I will. I told quite a few of my close friends before doing this and so far all have been very supportive. Because I had like weird eating (keto) before my surgery, everyone is kind of use to me and my having to order stuff a specific/special way I guess. Also my husband has been so supportive too. So I mean I guess with the help of the online community here too, I feel like I'm good. If that makes sense? How's it going you're only a week out. I was hating life still at a week out. Now however I am feeling great.

    Looking for Honest Friendship Advice

I think you should go, being the sober one means you can be the possible designated driver. I mean yeah you might lose friends along the way, but they remember you one way. If your back isn't hurting as much anymore and you can walk more that's great. You also don't need to eat all or anything they eat bring a protein shake or food with you can eat. I was super honest with my close friends about the surgery, just tonight I went to AYCE hotpot place but didn't eat a thing. I drank water and sat talking with my friends. The "eating" out thing always use to be a social thing and for me I can still do it sometimes, I just don't want to do it all the time. Although if you think you will be too tempted to eat too much then I guess you'll have to resign to not going. You know if you don't want to be completely honest with her or anyone else about you WLS you don't have to be, if you want to bring a protein shake or not eat at dinner - just say you're cutting back. No one needs to know it's about surgery. Don't feel guilty or regret about anything in life....GO FOR IT!
  19. OMG my surgeon put me on shots for 2 weeks after surgery and they had me get those leg squishier things to use when I was sitting or lying in bed for more than 2-3 hours, which was like all the time at first. I was in a lot of pain so I wasn't walking as much as you were. Wow that's awesome you did so much so fast.
  20. Oh yeah Bone Broth, I use that too. I use the one from Costco and they had chicken bone broth in refrigerator section as well, but that has to be used faster.

    Gastric Sleeve 5days Post OP

I walked nearly every hour while I was in the hospital because I was on morphine, so that helped. I never got any gas pain because of it. I was in awful pain once the morphine wore off and I had to take only pain meds. But it wasn't gas pain, only incision and stomach pain though. I know everyone says walk, but it's true. As best as you can move.
  22. Melting tablets for vitamins. I like the Barimelts brand. Unflavored Isopure Protein Powder, 100% Whey Protein Isolate. I mixed it in for extra protein. I drink regular water as well as Vitamin Water Zero Costco brand. Premier Protein Shakes from Costco - Chocolate, Carmel, Vanilla (I like to mix pumpkin pie spice with vanilla) Gold Bond Ultimate hydrating lotion MRM Low Carb Protein - Chocolate ( I mix this with the hot chocolate powder they gave me and make popsicles) popsicle molds ☝🏻 If you don't have a full body girdle ( I had two) I found them to be more helpful then the weird binder thing they gave me the hospital. It helped hold me in and up so my stomach didn't hang down and hurt. I got cannabis tinctures with high CBD content because I am a baby with pain and you can't take more pain meds I also got a cannabis CBD cream that I absolutely loved to use on my pain (not on incision sites of course) Is that what you're asking?

Can you visually see your weight loss?

Wow you are going through the weightloss depression bad. I hope there is someone IRL you can talk to you. You are the same you with some minor adjustments. Have you been doing to group or anything. I am so sorry you're feeling this way.

    Medical marijuana card

I had no problem, but I live in CA and my surgeon and anesthesiologist was fine with it. I don't smoke it though I take edibles and had to switch to tincture oils.
