Hi had my gastric bypass on post day 5. Roughly a week left of liquid diet.

I am finding it difficult with head hunger. Wishing for solid foods right now can't concentrate sometimes.

I am having Soup, milk, yoghurt, broth pretty much .

Any suggestions with things that can help ? Anyone finished the liquid stage earlier cause they couldn't deal with it ?

    Thanks

I haven’t had my bypass yet, but I know the liquid stage after can be rough. Just add Protein Powder or drink Protein Shakes as much as you can. It’ll help with the hunger feeling. I bought unflavored Protein powder to add to soups/broth to help. Are you getting enough protein in?

Anyone else next week, I’m 11/9 for a bypass. Just looking to see if anyone wanted to be a little support group for each other, motivators for one another. I imagine it’s nice to converse with people at the same place in the journey :)

Hi, I’m 11/18 for bypass. I’d like to check in with people as well. I’m looking forward to getting it over with and healing 😁

That is good to know. I’m scheduled to have my sleeve on Friday. I wonder if it’s too late to switch to bypass? I’ll have to ask today.

The great thing is, they both work! Pick which one is right for you. That was just my thought process on why I switched. But I have friends who say sleeve was the best decision they’ve ever made. Really it’s a win/win on whichever you and your doctor decide. Friday is coming up soon, good luck to you! Let us know how it goes 🎉

Hey I’m scheduled for bypass November 23rd. Anyone else that same time frame? I’d like to build a group if anyone is interested in going through this as a team?

Hi Bypass scheduled Nov 18th! I prepaid the hospital, picked up some Vitamins and Protein Powder and feel pretty prepared. The only thing that I’m nervous about is pain. My hospital only does Tylenol with coding and that feels crazy to me 🙁

I’m curious... what made you switch from sleeve to bypass?

Conversion rate from Sleeve to Bypass is a lot higher then I expected. I found people a few years out having trouble with acid with the sleeve. After researching, bypass is still the only one considered the gold standard for weight loss. I liked the longevity of information on bypass and the lower weight that can be reached. This is just my findings and when I brought it up to my surgeon she agreed with my switch plan. But sleeve people are still having great results, there’s no wrong surgery. Just bypass felt better for me after learning more about sleeve conversion to bypass.

My bypass date is Nov. 5 too. I’m excited/nervous. I hope it goes well for you!

I see a lot more people getting the sleeve. I’m also getting bypass on November 18th. Good luck to you! I’ll be curious and checking in! I only wanted the sleeve starting in January this year. But after Covid, it was pushed way back and I had more time to research. The amount of conversion to bypass from sleeve was something I learned during the wait time. So happy I changed my mind :)

    Congratulations.

When I was 30 days from surgery I started creating a list of "50 things I want to do," I added it to my WLS journal which I updated every two or three days. After surgery whenever I accomplished something on the list, I would cross it off and add a comment. For instance #1 was "wake up after surgery." On 3 April 2003 I crossed it off with the comment "I did, in fact, wake up after surgery." I included what I call odometer goals, like weighing 4--, 3--, 2--, and clothing sizes. The fun ones where things like running, kayaking, dancing, etc. It was fun.

Review your plan documentation. You should understand everything about your plan. If you're doing Protein Drinks, what are you going to do if they don't taste right, or they make you gag. Have options available, even ones you don't think you'll like. Be ready for the worst.

Then your eventual food plan. Do you understand the principles of your plan? When you are out somewhere and your normal choices aren't available you need to be able to apply the principles to make a good choice. When you post a thread here asking for ideas on what you can eat, be sure to tell us your plan so that we can offer suggestions within your plan.

In the first few months you can't not lose weight. If you go off plan and make bad choices, you will still lose weight. Your weight loss will be a positive reinforcement of your bad choices. When the weight loss stops the new habits you've built will be the bad ones. if you stay on plan consistently the weight you lose becomes a tremendous positive reinforcement for your new good habits. This helps make your new habits your new normal.

You have some rough times coming up. Surgery hurts. Healing takes time. It will be hard. You will get frustrated. You will have to learn how to eat again, both mechanically (small bites chewed ridiculously well) and your plan. Be patient. In a short time things will start getting better. And better.

Wow, this post sorta got away from me.

    Enjoy the ride.

Thanks for the advice! I actually really found all the details helpful. I’m a very detail oriented person and love to make plans and see them in progress. I have the journals and your advice just helped reinforce what I was planning on doing. I’ve been successful in life, I’ve always met my goals and the one thing that has held me back is over eating. I’ve had 10 months to get prepared for this and I’ve noticed a big shift in my brain on what I’m expecting out of this. Being positive, happy, accountable for why I’m here and realistic is what I’m working on. Ready for all the changes and not a temporary get skinny fix this time around. Feeling as prepared as I can :)

Which insurance do you have? Terrible that you had to basically do that for no reason but on the plus side im sure it taught the discipline needed to maintain a healthy life style after surgery. My first 1 on 1 dietician appointment is Tuesday 9/29 and I'm super excited/nervous and hoping they tell me how many more I have left and what else is required. I have all of my other appointments needed for the surgery scheduled.

Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Anthem Blue Cross PPO. Yeah kind of wasted time, but good news is all that time really helped me look at the foods I was eating. Realizing how little Protein I was eating and so much carbs was a big eye opener. I feel much more ready! Good luck to you!

  9. Today I got the great news I’m approved & set a surgery date of November 18th! I could of gotten sooner but needed family members help with my kids. That surgery date worked best for everyone. I started this process in January nervous but determined. Covid happened and delays started. But I’m thankful because it gave me time to change my mind from Sleeve to Bypass surgery. I did 6 months of nutrition classes that my insurance decided is no longer a requirement after I finished. But again I’m just super thankful for all the advice and phone calls I had with my dietician. Ready to take this last leap and embrace the healthier life I’m working so hard to get. Great day!!

  10. Ok I’m on my last month with dietician visits & last doctor visit. Bloodwork, psych done & Doctor letter of approval finished. The end is so close! I started this journey thinking only about the sleeve. Delays from Covid made this process longer and the more research I did, the more I came across sleeve conversion to bypass. I’ve had a change of heart and looking more into bypass because of the long term success rate. I’ve spent this entire year reaching for this goal and suddenly I’ve changed my mind on surgery type. Anybody else feel this way? Love any feedback right now. I’m 36 years old, can’t have anymore kids and I want the long term help to be successful at weight loss.

  11. Hey guys!
    Question for all:
Can you lose too much weight during the insurance mandated weight loss? Meaning, if my BMI was 41 and then 6 months later it falls below 40... can I disqualify myself? I have BCBS PPO insurance in CA. During this Covid lock down, I stopped eating out and I’m dropping weight. Not a crazy amount but I’m somewhat afraid to tell them I’ve lost 15lbs because it’ll put me under the 40 BMI. I’m on month 5 and have 1 more left and I’m so close! Just from delays & stress and it being SO hot out, I’ve just naturally dipped down in pounds and I’m just trying to do everything right to qualify.

  12. Hey guys!
I’ve completed 4/6 nutrition appointments needed. I was delayed do to Coronavirus, but I’m so ready for the final one! Just waiting out these last 2 months seems like forever!!! Decided with the sleeve & hoping CA stays open for elective surgeries. I don’t have an estimated surgery date yet but I can feel that I’m close!

  13. I read this and kinda laughed at myself. I haven’t had the WLS yet, but I’m already noticing a boost of confidence and seeing myself thinner. Not crazy, I think I’m skinny, but I’m already identifying with a healthier body. Maybe because I’ve always fluctuated weight, I know what I look like under this weight gain. I feel very relaxed and ready to be the me I see in my head :)

  14. I called my bariatric team after being canceled for almost TWO months and I’m able to continue in the program using Zoom. All the group classes were moved online and I’m doing all my nutrition classes at home. They told me not to call and to wait until further notice but I called and I’m back doing my steps. Just a heads up, if anyone is still waiting for info maybe give them a call now. Good luck! I’m so ready!

  15. Hi everyone! I was waiting for this to happen.. my bariatric team called and said my appointments (and everyone’s) are suspended until further notice. They will be calling me in 30 days to see where we are standing. Does this suck? Yep!! But I’m going to do my part and wait this out like everyone else. Just thinking.. anyone else have this issue yet? I’m going to be tracking my weight on an app so I can show proof that I was still doing my part, although I realize that the insurance might just say start over. Any ideas welcome! Good luck to you all while some of our journey is being put on pause.

  16. Met with the surgeon today. Really liked her and like that she’s a female. My insurance requires 6 months of weigh ins and I was able to count last months. So 1 down, 1 next week and then 4 more months. I got blood work labs to do, they signed me up everything I needed and suddenly I see a direct path to surgery! Hoping for a smooth process! My BMI is 41.5 and Doctor said to just maintain my current weight so I won’t disqualify myself. 41.5 BMI & high blood pressure (taking medication) is what I’m trying to qualify with. She said I was a very easy and straightforward case so we’re going for the sleeve. Taking this easy path with gratitude because I know it’s not this easy for others. ❤️
