Yeah I haven't had one in ten years either.

    It's just your body adjusting.

I still have some issues in the bathroom and it's been 7 weeks and I'm eating normal food.

You'll figure out and tweak your new norm as you heal.

You literally just had your insides cut open and re-routed. It's all normal. If anything seems like you'll end up becoming dehydrated or severe pain, call the doctor for sure.

I think we all get so caught up in what's "normal" we forget we had a major surgery and trauma. I'm guilty too. Seven weeks out and been in your shoes.

Try and remember what your body has been through!

    Good luck friend!

I'm back on my higher dose of Omeprazole - it's helping. The doc told me to bump up the dose of Zofran to 3 pills every four hours. Thankfully, things are a bit easier today. I'm definitely not as "green" with nausea! Baby steps must be taken, as well as the understanding that major surgery was performed that totally rerouted my insides.

that is exactly what I had done - the band has been out for almost five years though. I started taking my omeprazole again - hopefully that will kick in again soon. But the nausea - even mega doses of zofran barely touch it. I'm trying to be strong, but boy is it hard!

I had RNY - they even kept me an extra night because of the nausea and lack of liquid consumption. I just want to bawl my eyes out.

I had a revision from a lap band to RNY and I know for the first 4 days I had terrible "buyers remorse". But around day 5 I felt like I was gonna make it, and every day was better than the day before. It's totally normal to think "what the hell did I just do to myself???" Almost everyone of us have thought that right after surgery.
Your doctor should have you on a PPI for a few months after your surgery. I had heartburn for about a month after mine. Be patient with yourself on the Fluid drinking and don't force it. It will get easier.
Hang in there, YOU GOT THIS! It WILL bet better, I promise...

@GAjeepGirl it sucks to hear you’re having such a time of it. I had the sleeve, but I know the anguish of recovering from surgery. 3 days is so soon after. I hope you feel better soon.
As far as the heartburn, can you take the liquid antacids to coat your tummy? Could your surgeon prescribe something for you? Hugs.

I'm so confused. I thought that the surgery was supposed to almost eliminate heartburn. It hasn't. I go back and forth with nausea that is so bad, I can't walk or move. I'm trying to get my Water and Protein in, but it just causes the heartburn to ramp up 50 notches. To top it all off, my big stomach is growling like there is no tomorrow, yet I have zero hunger or cravings.

Is any of this normal? I'm starting to drift into that "what did I do" scenario...and that won't be a good mental battle for sure. I'm feeling very lost for sure.

Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice

Oh you poor thing. It will heal, you'll feel better soon. Just keep taking tiny sips and walking as much as you can. Moving the muscles helps heal them and prevents blood clots!

Hello...Had surgery Wednesday morning! It’s behind me now, WooHoo! As soon as they got me to my room they had me up walking. I went out to walk, every time I got up to use the bathroom (and then some). I believe the very frequent walks can be attributed to very little gas pain-nearly nonexistent. It made me a believer so I kept it up.
Where I ran into trouble😏was we believe I drank too large of Water swallows, forgetting the small sip rule, and was first class sick, dry heaving, extreme nausea😖. Couldn’t keep a bite of Jello down-felt like it was stuck in my throat. They decided to keep me 2 nights.
This morning I was able to sip chicken broth and only a few bites of jello.
This Baripals forum has helped me enormously and I thank, honor and support each of you.! For those who have yet to do this, believe them when they tell you to walk, walk, walk and very slow sipping is KEY. Thank you Baripals for participating in this amazing group!💝🌟🙏

@NewEnglanderGal I had sleeve surgery on March 3rd. I’ve had ups and downs, of course. My new stomach doesn’t like lactose. I’m having a bit of weakness in the morning and afternoon. I haven’t had hardly any pain except for this very acute pain in my left shoulder at night when I’m laying down. I go back to work next Tuesday.
For tips, get prepared for the gas pain—just as I suggested for Wellness Warrior- I wish I had know about Charco Caps prior to surgery. They are activated charcoal capsules and that is the only thing other than walking that provided me any relief. I didn’t get them until the end of the second day, but I was outpatient so if you’re in the hospital they may be able to do more as I was on my own.
For me, getting in all the liquids improved day after day so I wish you all best of luck in staying hydrated.
@WellnessWarrior I had the most horrific gas pains after surgery. My surgery was outpatient and I spent the rest of that day screaming and crying from the gas pain. I walked as much as possible, but had hardly any relief! I’ve had other major surgeries and I’ve never experienced anything like it. I had pains like you’re describing and then my friend who had the surgery suggested activated charcoal capsules for the gas pain and bloating. They were a life saver! They are called Charco Caps and my mom got them at Walmart.
@jlow347 the pre-op diet was the hardest part for me other than the gas pains after surgery. You’re gonna do great and it’s so exciting how we’re changing our lives!!
    @GAjeepGirl praying for your recovery!

GAjeepGirl reacted to april042019 in Almost one year post op UPDATE
    Hello everyone!
I hope everyone's doing well. I'm currently bored at work and thought I'd give you guys an update of how i'm doing. I remember reading/ watching other people talk about how they're doing a while after surgery and it motivated me so much to keep going with the process and not be scared. So I hope this helps someone somewhere!
Anyway, I'm 11 months and 7 days post op RNY. I've officially lost 230 lbs. I started as 415 lbs and as of today I'm 185 lbs! As of today i'm a size 6-8 jeans/ Medium tops. I'm so grateful for this surgery and for myself for not giving up on myself when it could've been so easy to do so. I wish I had taken action sooner but it is what it is and I'm happy I eventually did. I still have about 60 lbs to go to get to my ideal weight for my height but i'm not in a hurry and i'm just going with the flow.
So, in terms of restriction and the size of my pouch now, there is none. LOL. At first, I was so scared to eat too much or to do anything that would stretch my pouch. I went to my nutritionalist and told her about it and how i felt like sometimes I was eating too much or i didn't feel the restriction as much and she told me not to worry and that my stomach will tell me when to stop. Unfortunately, I might've taken her advice too far. I stopped measuring stuff and just ate what I felt like. My pouch is regular sized now I think. Sometimes when I'm eating with other people I'll actually eat more than they do. But honestly I'm not too bothered by it. I know it would've been great to still have that restriction but I feel like i've learned so much about the type of food i should be eating and how to track it that I don't really need my pouch to keep me in control anymore. I started drinking soda about 2 months ago, diet of course. I know that's bad but it honestly helps me with hunger and cravings. For exercise, I do cardio about 2-3 times a week.
Now, loose skin. I have tons! My arms hang like crazy. My thighs remind me of my grandpas thighs 😂 My stomach doesnt bother me TOO much (unlike my arms) but it's still a presence. But no matter how much i critique myself or sometimes hate what I see in the mirror, IT IS SO WORTH IT. I remember how miserable i was before losing all the weight. I couldn't go up the stairs to our apartment without feeling like I couldn't breathe. I couldn't walk or even stand for longer than a minute or two. I couldn't find ANY shoes that were comfortable, everything hurt! It makes me so sad to just think about what it was like to live like that.
My social life hasn't changed much. I'm naturally really shy and I don't really put myself out there to meet new people. However, I have noticed how people treat me now. It's awful to say but I feel like I'm taken more seriously now that I'm not as heavy as I was. I'm treated better by people at restaurants, stores, and even at work. It's also true with people I knew before and even with my family. My relatives are suddenly so much nicer to me. Of course there are always the comments on how "beautiful i've become" and how "this is much better". I try not to let it bother me but it does. Not just the comments but their attitudes toward me as well. Why are they nicer now that I'm thinner? Was my weight really bothering them before? I can't imagine being mean to someone just because of how they look or how much they weigh. It really says a lot about them.
Oh, there's also the people that think losing the weight was SO EASY for me because of the surgery and that I put zero work into it myself. I'm not even gonna talk about that because YOU GUYS KNOW.
ANYWAY, that's me. I'm really proud of myself and all i've done. I hope i can lose the rest of the weight and then actually maintain it!
