Has anyone had the issue where when they stand up they get lightheaded or dizzy? I get the whole kaleidoscope vision going on. I wasn’t sure how long that lasts. I try to make sure i stand up slowly but I always seem to forget and end up needing to lean against something for about 15 seconds or so while it passes. I do know postop my blood pressure is always slightly low so I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.

I’m glad everyone is doing so well!! This last month my weight loss stalled. The 180s was the longest month and a half of my life but I’m finally in the 170s with a BMI of 29. Things in general are slower so I’ve been upping my exercise even more to 4x a week and walking 6x a week. I want to lose 20 more pounds for a healthy BMI. My bloodwork for my six month came back healthy so that’s nice to hear. This sprint has now definitely turned into a marathon but I must not get discouraged!!!

I’m down 50, haaaave I believe 30 more to go... ish. I got my first stall man is it brutal. I can’t tell if it’s already getting hard because I have less to lose or if it is just truly a stall. But I’ve been sitting at my weight for a couple weeks now.... just trying to keep doing my thing and keep the faith that it’ll start moving again soon!! SW 235 CW 185

Except use? Was that autocorrect for exercise? Lol - if that’s the case yeah I do spin classes on my peloton and then strength training afterwards 3 to 4x a week. I also walk several days a week. I will say though my 180s is sloooow going but my NUT says I’m doing fine and my weight hasn’t stalled technically. Most of my trouble is around that time of the month... really sabotages me but I also think not having kids yet and the changes that come with that give me an edge too. I had no health issues going into the surgery either.

SW 235 CW 187 That’s fantastic!! I was so excited when I hit the 190s- I’m about the same as you. I get real slow loss and then it speeds up sometimes. It took forever it feels like to get under 200 and once I did I sped through the 190s. I don’t get cravings anymore but I definitely get hungry which has occurred for awhile now. I’m always trying to get my liquids even if I’m not thirsty but the struggle is real! I love AdvoCare Spark fruit punch- they make products for weight loss and athletes. I just love their drink mix!! Keep going, it’s a marathon for sure!! I hope by the end of the year to see 150s (ish)?!

    Depression meds and WLS

I’d been on 4-5 different depression medications and anti anxiety meds along with a Xanax for emergencies. I quit them all before my surgery. I’d read a book you might find helpful called Lost Connections by Johann Hari. It talks about how medications for depression seldom work except for a few severe cases. The placebo effect is what people cling to. For me It also to relates to all the weight loss meds I’d tried. It seems like they all work at first but the honeymoon wears off and they don’t really do anything. Our mind is so powerful and really we need to work through it with therapy and not try to medicate. Anyhoo, it’s not for everyone but I realized I didn’t need meds, I needed someone to talk to. It was nice going into surgery without being on any medication whatsoever.

    February 2020 Post-Op Thread

Hi Lisa! I was actually so glad I had my surgery right before the lock downs. It gives me focus and I have a routine down that keeps me grounded. I know otherwise I’d be stress eating and gaining that quarantine 15!! I ended up taking the bariatric advantage chews for my daily vitamin and calcium citrate. I find they taste and look like starburst which ain’t bad at all. You and I are peas in a pod. I could eat a jar of peanut butter and just don’t keep it around. I’m going to make some protein balls with it soon though and add ground flax for fiber like I used to. Makes for a nice dessert with the stevia sweetened dark choc chips, honey, and rolled oats. I’m trying to strength train now but I feel weak as a kitten but all you can do is just do what you can and eventually it will get easier as you get stronger. I often do Kayla Itsines exercises as you can do them at home. I had meatballs the other day! I got an air fryer and I love it and make them in that. I love to cook so I’m happy to be coming up with new things to try. I hope you are doing well otherwise, it’s definitely a learning experience but like I say I find the surgery a blessing during this time as my energy and focus is put towards my journey... makes things easier.

I like to workout a lot so I don’t think it’s too many calories at all. I’d checked with my nutritionist and she said I’m rocking it. I also didn’t want to lose muscle mass or my hair so those calories are all from lean protein and veggies or some dairy like Greek yogurt. If I ate 400 calories I think I’d be too weak for much else but my activity level and energy has been pretty high even when I was 3 weeks out. My weight loss has been super steady, no stalls yet and that with having got my period currently. I didn’t even put any weight on for it like I normally would.

Does anyone feel lightheaded in the morning? I assume this is because it’s the longest I go without eating or drinking. I have to get up very slowly and I immediately start drinking some water I leave next to me overnight. My routine with exercise has definitely changed too. I used to work out in the morning but now I just don’t have the energy... literally!!! I’m good towards the end of the day and I think that’s because my fluid and protein are at a peak. I’m averaging about 900 calories a day right now- I’ve been lucky and I can eat anything without issue. Just have to measure everything as it is more about not having the room rather than what the food is. Hard boiled eggs and chicken were easy so I’m happy to be eating them again. I’ll be 6 weeks postop on 4/7. Starting weight- 228 Current weight- 205

See I still track my food in an app and I’m only eating 400-500 calories a day and taking my vitamins. For the sake of my healing stomach I wont do anything worse than soft, creamy foods. The rest just seems to be head hunger. Instead of a therapist I’m actually going to start seeing a nutrition counselor who helps other eating disorders, food addiction, etc. so I’m not so obsessive about food... hopefully. At any rate, I will be curious what my doctor says. The most issue I have is that chest pressure if I eat too much or too fast. It’s weird and so uncomfortable. Supposedly it will go away as I heal. I never feel full but also never hungry. It’s that chest pressure that keeps me from having more. Not to mention I only measure out at most 2 oz. for my items. I’m more worried about what the hell i did with my healing muscles. I feel totally normal energy wise and it’s not the incision sites but the deep fascia, muscles or whatever that they cut through and now needs to heal that I’m concerned about. I at least don’t believe I did much more than strain myself too much. Sigh... need time to move faster so I can heal.

I had my vsg on 2/25- I’ve lost 20lbs but I feel as though some of it was bloat due to getting my period the day after surgery. I can’t stand protein drinks OR broth so a week after surgery I’d started eating pudding, instant potatoes, and anything else smooth and mixing protein powder in everything. I also purchased bariatric foods that already had protein added- they make protein garlic mashed potatoes and protein hot chocolate!! I now also can eat egg whites, Refried beans, and a lick of peanut butter. I don’t seem to have issues tolerating anything really. The only thing I concentrate on is getting enough water. My only issue is possible overdoing it. I have my two week postop visit this Monday and I’m going to mention that my abdominal muscles feel pulled. I feel so good sometimes that I start doing things around the house.. but then later I have sharp pains in my abdominals. I really need to take a step back and rest more. I really can’t wait to eat some tuna or other foods as I get bored easily. I don’t have cravings for bad food just solid food in general.

    Embrace the Stall

Thank you!!! I haven’t even had my surgery yet (2/25/2020) and those types of posts freak me out along with the I’m still hungry ones as well. Especially with women, I gain 10 pounds almost when I’m at my cycle and along with the hormones it can seem a nightmare when I was dieting over the years. I try to ignore those posts but they really make me nervous.

    Not enough weight for surgery

I have a BMI if 36 with no comorbidities at all but I’d lost 100lbs+ in my own. I’m having surgery because it’s impossible for me to continue losing more weight. I’ve been less but I was always starving. I feel like this tool will help me finally lose the weight and my goals will stick. My sleeve surgery is 2/25/2020. The only thing was I was too healthy for my insurance to cover it but I didn’t want to sit around and wait to develop health issues or gain more weight.
