    Liquid diet struggles

I'm doing ok so far. I've talked with someone and it's not a big deal. The last 10 days of the pre-op diet I plan to stick exclusively to liquids. I've read on here that there are people who had popcorn or something along those lines during liquid diets and they still have had surgery. I've lost nearly 10lbs in a week, and the whole point is to shrink my liver. I also talked to a friend who had RNY, and he kinda scared me straight the night I had cravings for taco Bell. I have been so tempted to eat anything besides soup, but I haven't. I wish you the best of luck on your journey.
  4. Just got the call from anesthesia today, so it's really, really happening. 😬 I'm struggling with this liquid diet though (and it's only been like 5 days). I'm craving savory, but regular soup is just not cutting it. Is there anything I can have that you guys recommend? Need to switch it up! 💃
  5. I'd think that's good! Congrats! 🎉

    Anxious to get approved.

My whole entire process from start to finish was 5 months. It only required 3 months of visits and consultations but the last two were from getting insurance approval and scheduling (it was kinda a cluster-you-know-what). But I finally have my surgery date of February 25th. Insurance approved it right away, but I also have a BMI of 54. So it's almost life or death for me. I also have gerd and a hiatal hernia. My bariatric surgeon said he would just fix it while he was in there doing the bypass. Anyways, I have Medicaid from NC and it was very short and sweet. But it's entirely up to your provider being vigilant enough to fight for you with the insurance company. I would be on top of everything. It sounds like you have a good case though, and I genuinely hope you get approved!

    Liquid diet struggles

Well, I ended up having some crackers. I read somewhere that you can put them in soup an it makes it liquid? Idk. But I just needed to crunch on something before I went bananas. I'm still sticking to it, and I've lost weight, but it's definitely more difficult then I imagined it would be. I know it will all be worth it in the end. You're lucky to have some ham slices! I wish I could. 🤤 But it's just liquids. 😩

    Liquid diet struggles

That's one of my bigger fears. I enjoy food, immensely. But I'm afraid of not being able to go out with family bad friends to a restaurant anymore because all I will be able to do is sip on water. 😭 I know eventually you can eat, but I hear it takes a good while to have an actual appetite. I know I need to do this though, but it's going to be a huge commitment.

    Liquid diet struggles

Me too! The first couple days are hard and you will literally just want to eat anything and everything. I think it gets easier, but if you're someone who likes variety and can't eat the same thing everyday, I'm sure it will be a little hard. Thats my problem. I'm still excited to do this though! Trying to discipline myself.

    Liquid diet struggles

Yeah, I'm allowed to have soups (including creamed), jello, smoothies, yogurt, etc. But there are so few options that are savory. And yes, I have to strain out chunks too. It's for a full 14 days. Last night before surgery it's two clear protein drinks (that I hear taste awful). Just thought maybe someone had an idea that's better than mine lol.

    February Surgery ?

Have you tried Gas-x? I saw a video on YouTube of a girl who took it post-op and she said it helped pretty well. It's worth a shot to get the gas out. That's what I bought for my surgery. I hope the gas pains aren't too bad though. Good luck!
  12. I really thought once I got my date that I would be over the moon with excitement. However, it has set in today that this is really going to happen. That being said, I am the regular amount of nervous about the surgery - but moreso I'm trying to deal with the mental health aspect of this. I know this is going to be life altering and I won't be able to eat what I once could or like I have in the past. Has anyone else struggled with this thought? If so, how did you overcome it or how are you coping?

    Surgery Approved!

Congrats! 🎉 🎊 I got approved last week myself. Just waiting for it to be officially scheduled. Already on my liquid diet, phew that's been tough!

    February Surgery ?

I am day two through my 2 week pre op liquid diet. It's been tough. No doubt. But watching the food Network channel doesn't help 😂🤤 I try to mix it up as much as possible. Straining soups and and eating a variety of low-fat yogurts/drinkable yogurts. Look up what is considered liquid, you can even have pudding! No doubt I'm hangry, but I keep thinking about the other side of this adventure. Think thin! Lol Good luck and let us know how you do! 💪

    Pre op questions

I had an EGD/colonoscopy as well as low iron and other side issues. They found polyps in my stomach and I was sure they wouldn't go forward. I suppose it's up to each individual surgeon to proceed, but mine approved the surgery with no questions. I am just waiting for the scheduler to call me! But I should say, if you are having a lot of health issues, it might not be the best option to press forward until everything is resolved. You don't want any complications post op. Good luck!
  17. So, I went through my hospital's weight loss supervision program. Only 3 months of classes and appointments. I was so stoked when I got approved for surgery (bypass) by the surgeon on the 17th of January. I was told it could be as little as 3-5 days before I would be called to schedule the surgery. Unfortunately, this practice is very short handed and it's nearly impossible some days to get ahold of anyone. Let alone figure out what's going on. So turns out my surgeon went on vacation for a week after my last consult. Ok. Then they had trouble getting it submitted to the insurance company. Several phone calls and transfers later, I finally got the prior auth submitted. Now to wait for approval. Apparently my insurance company approved it within 3 days... But I still have not heard from anyone. It's now been 3 weeks since my last appointment and nothing. Not even a time frame. I called and got through to the scheduler (holy cow), and she said it's waiting on the financial woman. So I called and left a voicemail for her (yesterday). I didn't hear anything today and I intend on calling again tomorrow. But I have been advised to be patient by some and others (who went through the same office) told me to pester the hell out of them until I get results. Conflicted, depressed and thinking the surgery is never gonna happen! Anyone else have similar situation? I have been slipping into eating bad stuff again because I'm just bummed out.

    Feeling Discouraged

Thank you all for your feedback! I talked to the woman in the finance office which is supposedly the last step before scheduling. She took down a bunch of information and told me to expect scheduling to call me in 2-5 days. I've started my pre-op liquid diet and sticking to it! That way I'm ready to go by the time she calls! You guys are very encouraging. Thank you again so so much. 🤗

    February Surgery ?

I went to several surgical groups to talk to people who have had sleeve/bypass. 2 of the girls in the group have desk jobs and they said they returned to work within a few days. I also have a friend who did sleeve and she was back at work in the hospital within a week. I guess it just depends on how you feel. But the consensus seems to be from those I talked to that it's pretty easy to get back to a job, especially one behind a desk. Good luck. 👍

    Feeling Discouraged

Funny enough, I had considered doing that yesterday but didn't want to annoy them. I'm fearful they will just tell me to go take a hike. I'm going to make one more phone call tomorrow and if I don't have some sort of answer, I probably will go down there. It's just super unprofessional and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I mean, it's literally their only job!

    February Surgery ?

New to the forum as well. Waiting on insurance approval, but it's looking like mid February for me. They said I should hear something in the next 5 days! So eager to have a fresh start!
