I had a reaction like that to a surgical glue once. It was awful. I used hydrocortisone and it went away in a few days. Oral Benadryl too. Of course I'm not a surgeon so you should definitely get their opinion. But I have had his happen in a prior surgery and every other surgery since I told them I had this allergy and they used something else and I've had no issuws.

I am so sorry for you. I know it sounds lame but there are so many people struggling. You are not alone. Eventually life will return to normal and you'll be back on track with your surgery. It's hard to see a light at the end of this but I'm certain there is one. Hang in there. You can do it. We're all stronger than we know.losing everything .. so lost now... job gone ... saved retirement gone,.... surgery cancelled ... not much now ... cant pay bills or see a way to catch up ... just want to fall asleep and never wake up ... what will become of us

Yeah it's definitely a difficult time. I'm 8 weeks out this coming Monday and averaging 2 pounds a week right now. Surgery weight on 1/27 was 246. I was 218 this morning. I'm definitely snacking a little more here and there but trying to drink more fluids and still get out and walk.Just checking in with everyone. Hoping your all doing well and staying healthy. I'm 9 weeks since surgery. Averaging a pound a week loss since allowed to eat anything. Something I found this week is I love bread, Danish and Cookies. Never realized it before, but this past week I have eaten quite a bit. Therefore I gained a pound..... With sitting around house, not doing much....this is not good! Sooooo.....starting fresh today, making sure I eat Protein first, fill up on that. Getting my fat butt up and going for a walk outside!! And keeping busy so I don't snack! This shut down is going to play with our heads....making us want to snack cause we are bored or feel we need to eat. I'm pulling out my crafts to keep me busy and not eat!! Good luck to everyone. Stay healthy, keep social distancing....we will get through this together....

Ugh you'll find something! Just need to rewire your brain to your new routine .unfortunately me and tea just don't get along. And collagen supplements are a no for me as I'm vegetarian, so only whey based Protein powders/supplements are able to be used.

Do you like tea? I have morning tea with an individual packet of either vanilla or unflavored Vital collagen Protein (7 g) with a little honey and splash of milk. Its not a ton of protein but does replace the morning routine and I get a little caffeine from the tea. Plus, the Vital blends really well into drinks. My biggest issue post surgical with my routine and my "normal" day is and has been my one weakness...my morning latte. I normally make a espresso shot, and pour it into 1.5 cups of steamed skim milk.
I've tried four different ways of adding Protein Powder to this and have thrown out every single one...they were awful.
So I ask, is it okay for us to drink "coffee". I haven't started on my mushy food phase yet, but LORD I can tell you that my liquid phase has DEFINITELY been a downer without my morning latte
Thoughts?

Good for you !it's been 27 years for me, I have zero desire to even try animal products again - although I do like the new Beyond Burger plant based products. It makes an amazing meatloaf, that I'm going to try making in individual 4oz baking dishes and freezing it. I've suffered from pernicious anemia almost all of my life (unexplained), so I'm used to the wonky blood work. I go for Iron infusions every 6-12 months. Hopefully the RNY won't throw things off TOO much! I'm being vigilant on my Vitamins however!

Yeah I know guidelines are different for so many things during these surgeries. Obviously I recommend everyone follow what their surgeon said. I definitely didn't push too hard too soon. I did have the calorie reserve even I wanted to.Hmmmmm, surgeons often recommend the 6 weeks to people who had abdominal surgery to minimize the possibility of hernia when it comes to the incisions. It's not WLS related. Maybe it's a German surgical guideline thing. I can remember vaguely having learnt about the 5 kg rule myself years ago.
I'm also always surprised how soon patients are discharged after surgery. In Germany 5th post-op day is pretty standard. Maybe a day sooner if the patient presses for it.

Yup like I said everyone is different! I had no abdominal pain after 3 days and even that was minimal. I left my RNY surgery the day after like I never had surgery. I'm very lucky. He said i could use the weight machines, knowing I couldn't do barbell work any longer due to three wrist reconstructions I had. I was a competitive lifter before so I think being in good shape before (despite some extra weight) helped me have a very easy recovery.Wow. I have 6 weeks of restriction. No more lifting than 5 kg (e. g. for grocery shopping). However, I have to admit, using the abdominal muscles really does still hurt a little bit, so... plus I'm afraid it will hurt the hiatoplastic if there is too much pressure into the abdomen so I'll go with the 6 week restriction regarding the abdominal wall.

I was a vegetarian for years... Unfortunately I had to rethink it after being anemic and low on pretty much everything prior to surgery. I'm sure it doable but I had to go back to lean, well sourced meats and fish. Post op I just couldn't get enough Protein. I hate shakes. Like haaaate.I do my one week post op on friday where I have to eat an egg, egg beaters, cottage cheese, or refried Beans as my test...if that goes okay, I get to transition to soft mushy - I pray that it stays down - I really want something other than shakes and Soups. It doesn't help that I'm limited by being a vegetarian, so even my Soup choices were blah...

Haha you'll be eating them soon! I was so happy to start mush at 3 weeks!I love how everything seems so miserable on my insides right now, yet I would TOTALLY fight a wrestler for some mashed potatoes if they were eating them in front of me right now.

My surgeon released me to the gym and weights at 2 weeks but everyone is different and I think a lot depends on the shape you wee in before and how well you handled surgery and recovery! Good work today!I am 15 days post op and decided to ride my bike a little with my dog running beside me. It lasted about 20 mins. How long after surgery were you guys released to excercise? I was exhausted afterward but it was such fun. Just curious about others experiences.

It definitely took me a few weeks if slowly and steady increasing endurance. And of course now we're all stuck in!

Yeah I haven't had one in ten years either.nope - that came out three years ago -
It's just your body adjusting.
I still have some issues in the bathroom and it's been 7 weeks and I'm eating normal food.
You'll figure out and tweak your new norm as you heal.

Haha do you still have a gall bladder? That may be causing some issues as well as it adjusts.my old one seems a bit more ticked off...I think it realized that it ain't gonna get fed again!

Hang in there, it gets easier!thanks - I do have to keep reminding myself - especially because I barely have any surgical pain - but oh my insides! My "big tummy" is growling like a banshee, everything in there must be so confused!
I had little to no pain at all but man my new stomach had some words with me haha.

You literally just had your insides cut open and re-routed. It's all normal. If anything seems like you'll end up becoming dehydrated or severe pain, call the doctor for sure.Okay I managed to make it through the 'green nausea' phase, and the extreme GERD phase, but starting last night the gurgling in my intestines started and I pretty much spent the night in the bathroom with the "floopy poops". What on EARTH could be in me that is causing so much distress? The cramps are so painful...I finally took Immodium last night, but the same thing started up again this evening around 5pm.
Is this normal????
I think we all get so caught up in what's "normal" we forget we had a major surgery and trauma. I'm guilty too. Seven weeks out and been in your shoes.
Try and remember what your body has been through!
Good luck friend!

I posted this on another thread but I'll copy it here. Hang in there! We're all in this together!I'm in the Bay area, and all 7 counties are now under a shelter in place order due to the Coronovirus for the next 3 weeks. That basically means that except for critical activities we need to stay home and we need to stay at least 6 ft from other people (non family). The good news is I have a job where I can work from home. The bad news is one of my major binge eating triggers is boredom, or really sitting on the couch watching tv.
I'm working during the day (and its been really busy) and I've been walking the dog when I can (this order happened to come just as we are having a series of rain storm)s. I can't go shopping, movies, gym, etc...
Thoughts on ways to stay occupied?
Keep healthy all!
Lori
Here are some things I've come up with to keep my mind and body sane. Maybe they will help you too.
Ignore #1 if you are not in a secluded area of course.
1) get outside. Don't be near people but walk the dog, jog around the block, clean up your garden. Its cold as hell where I am but bundling up and getting out and moving helps! Biking works too!
2) try a new hobby. This is the time to finally try knitting or sewing! There are tons of YouTube videos that can reach us essentially any skill or hobby. And you can order materials online. Bluprint.com has great knitting kits and follow along videos. When your hands are busy you can't be putting food in your mouth. I started knitting dog sweaters for the animal shelters this week
3) start a journal. This is an incredibly crazy time in our lives. Write stuff down! Get your feelings out ! Use good old fashioned pen and paper. Again, keeps your hands busy
4) get an awesome puzzle and work on it a couple hours a day. Frame it when you're done as a reminder we survived this!
5) adult coloring books and documentaries! Color while you listen/watch - not only are you keeping your hands busy, you're keeping your mind sharp and learning!
6) find a friend or group of friends and do an online workout. Set up a workout ahead of time that can be done in the house, and Skype your friends and do it together!

I'm still only at 26 lbs but not mad at it. Slow and steady wins the race! (SW: 246, CW: 220). Some days I can eat normal, some days nothing sits right. That's awesome! I just hit the 30lb mark since surgery, but 50 if you count the preop period. I finally got back to work walking dogs though so I'm hoping the extra exercise will help speed things along and get my muscles building again. I hope everyone is doing well!
I did cancel my 2 month PO appt this week and rescheduled for mid May. My husband has bad lungs so we're really trying here. I am doing really well, missing the gym, so she agreed I didn't need to come in .

I'm about two months out and can eat around 4-5 oz or half a cup at a time. Slow and chew!

Oh you poor thing. It will heal, you'll feel better soon. Just keep taking tiny sips and walking as much as you can. Moving the muscles helps heal them and prevents blood clots!I had RNY - they even kept me an extra night because of the nausea and lack of liquid consumption. I just want to bawl my eyes out.

Did you have vsg or rny?I'm so confused. I thought that the surgery was supposed to almost eliminate heartburn. It hasn't. I go back and forth with nausea that is so bad, I can't walk or move. I'm trying to get my Water and Protein in, but it just causes the heartburn to ramp up 50 notches. To top it all off, my big stomach is growling like there is no tomorrow, yet I have zero hunger or cravings.
Is any of this normal? I'm starting to drift into that "what did I do" scenario...and that won't be a good mental battle for sure. I'm feeling very lost for sure.
Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice
And your body just went through a major upheaval and trauma. It will get better I promise. Just walk and sip.

Same. I'm 39 and husband is 43 but he has had lung issues for the last three months so we're laying low too. Not worried about me or the kids so much as bringing it to him.Hi everyone! I'm doing okay, but I stalled for several days, then finally lost 1 pound this week. I can tolerate all foods now, even steak and salads, no problem. I'm feeling good. T-Bone (our dog) and I went on a 5 mile bike ride today and I have so much more energy than I did even a week ago.
My husband has asthma and is 67 years old, so we are staying close to home. I still work, so my biggest fear is I will contract the virus and bring it home. We live in rural Arkansas, but even our church cancelled services for tomorrow. I admit, I'm scared because of hubby's health.
Glad you're feeling so Great! I'll be 7 weeks Monday and had my first salad today and it went okay. Still have issues with chicken breast and haven't tried steak. I feel awesome tho overall as long as I don't eat too fast which I screw up a lot lol

I've personally never had an issue with sugar post op. You could try a little and take it slow.I had my sleeve surgery on 3/4/20 . My doctor ok’d me on 3/12/20 to move to puréed/ soft food. Happy that I got to move on from just liquids. But I do find it hard to eat slow.. maybe because I’m hungry .. lol..
went to the store today and they were out of sugar free popsicles, and toilet paper. Lol.
So I got the “No Sugar Added Fudgsicle” my question is , Should I not be eating those ? 1 popsicle has 2 grams of sugar.
They tasted so good.. Any thoughts??
