  1. Sometimes the band doesn't work for people, everyone is different. Personally I would rather start with the band because it is reversible. My aunt had GP and did fine for the first year or so, but is now permanently on a feeding tube. My uncle also had GP and is doing amazing! I really do think it depends on the person. But like I said the LB is reversible.
  2. Thanks for your replies everyone!! I was just going through a panic "did I pick the right surgeon?" mode. I feel much better about it today, and from hearing about all your successes. Thanks again!!!
  3. YAY!!! I'm so glad things went well!! Get some rest!!!
  4. Good Luck Mini!!! I can't wait for mine too!! You'll have to tell me everything!!
  5. Congratz!!!! You need to put up some pictures so we can be jealous!!!
  6. I'm glad you've come here for support!! This is a great place to talk about fears, doubts, goals and success!!! I know what you are going through with your Hubby. Mine is also very worried about the surgery, but he said he is more worried about how my life will be with all the extra weight. I haven't been able to get pregnant yet, so I do see this as a type of fertility treatment. I hope you find the answers you are looking for!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!
  7. Congrats on your new NSV!!! You are AWESOME!!!
  8. I know I already posted o nthis thread, but I just thought of something. I had a dream the other night that I was jogging. I want to be able to jog!!! It was awesome in my dream, I didn't have any knee pain(which I hope will go away with WS).

  10. If you are thinking about cost, then I do recommend my Surgeon, Dr, Kirshenbaum. He charges $9950 for the surgery, preop consultations, postop care for 3 months and his fills are $15 after the 3 months. He has pioneered some lapriscopic surgeries and has done many lapbands. Here is the link http://www.lapbandrockies.com/ I chose him because it is close to utah and airline tickets are fairly inexpensive to denver. I am most likely going to get my first fill from him and then find someone closer to home. I did look into the surgery being in Mexico, but my concern was trying to find a doctor that would do fills and post op care in the US if I had problems. Good Luck with your decision!!!
  11. To make a ticker just slick on mine and then choose "create your own ticker" then make it and copy the code when you are done and paste it in your signature.
  12. When I saw this thread, I went looking for what I want to wear.. and look GOOD in.
  13. HAH!! You just described me and ALL of my Fathers family! I'm healthy as a horse and weigh about as much lol! I do agree that if a person is more than 50lbs overweight and NEEDS the surgery that they should be able to utilize this tool. Not for thin people to stay thin, but to improve health.
  14. I am being banded by Dr. Kirshenbaum in less than 3 weeks, and am just curious how much his previous patients have lost and how long it took them. Any replies would be appreciated. Thanks!!
  15. How much are you paying for your fills? Are your doctors aggressive with the fills? Because I am looking for a reasonable price - hopefully under $150, and someone who is willing to be aggressive and do what I ask, since I am paying them to do it, I want to get restriction pretty fast.

  17. From the research I have done, you don't really get that full feeling until you get fills, and even then it may take a while. Be patient, it will happen. Just do your best to follow what the doctor has told you, and wait for your fills  Good luck!!
  18. Hi all! I'm Marie, I live in Salt Lake City with my husband. We have been married about a year and a half. I know I was overweight in high school but didn't care too much about it. I wish I had. But the weight didn't really start piling on until I was diagnosed with Osgood Slaughters Disease, that then severely limited my activities, and I was also on steroids for my asthma. It got up to 240 my first semester of college, and lost 25 lbs. I felt really good about that and kept doing what I was doing and gained it back-blech! By the time I got married I was up to 265, and now I'm 305. I am so grateful that my husband loves me for who I am, not what I look like. I prayed to find someone like that. Now I will hopefully look on the outside how I am on the inside.
  19. Congratz on taking this big step. I am excited for you!! Keep posting and surfing It's great, and I'm addicted!!
  20. I have been gathering lots of recipes from the other threads, but I need more!!! I have decided to start a bandsters cookbook for mushies and liquids. If everything works out the way I want it to, then the proceeds will go to people who need Lapband Surgery, but cannot afford it, and don't have insurance approval. I just know what a struggle my weight has been for me, and I want other people to get the help they need. So this is a shout out to everyone!! I need your recipes!! Original ones are best, or ones you have changed, as I don't want to cause any problems by stealing recipes. I also want to put everyones handle next to their recipes. If you don't want it to be, then let me know. I have already gathered from the other threads so if you have a recipe on there that you do not want used just send me a private message. Thank you so much!!!!!
  21. The cost depends on the doctor. The cheapest I found for the states is Dr.Kirshenbaum in Colorado. The surgery, pre op consultations, post op care and 3 months of fills all come in for $9950. I have heard that in Mexico you can get it as low as $8000 or so. But I figured the difference with plane tickets and hotels would bump me up anyway, When you are self pay Doctors are more likely to let you have the surgery you want. Because they aren't accountable to insurance companies. I have seen people on the forum who weighed less than you and had the surgery. Good luck with your decisions!!!:grouphug:
  22. Well, I haven't skipped my period after all. That was the good news. Bad news is it is back with a vengance! I have cramps so bad that it reminds me of high school when they used to make me throw up they hurt so bad! I am really bleeding heavily too. it SUCKS!!!! Anyway, I'm thinking about going on birth control to even it out, since hubby and I have decided to wait a year after the surgery for me to try and get pregnant. Any advice?
  23. You really do learn as you go, and this is the best place learn a lot of it. I definitely suggest going to the FAQ threads, they answered a LOT of my questions. Congrats on your date!!!
  24. Gratz on the new date Ann71!!! 1-tillydog, wsw27?, florida girl 2-trudeip, mackie, BethO,guitar247, minidriver 3 4 5 6 7 8-Zeama, Tamspri, knd, JaJeanne, 9-Missrach, st4r69 10 11-mellalot 12 13 14 15-Mellimel71 16-lotzasunshine 17 18-CapitolChick 19 20 21-pennylane 22 23 24-daniml, nyllrap 25 -NewJEM 26 27 28 29-Chellets 30 - mamanmidwife
  25. I watched a comedian once who (being very large himself) has a list of like 5 levels of fat - husky, fluffy, etc. can't really remember all of them. He did say his mom said "you aren't fat- you're fluffy' - so for him it was making him feel better.
