    very frustrated

over a week since my appointment and they still haven't sent the request to the insurance company for approval. it really makes me mad that they don't care. I understand that they have to go on vacation but make sure your paperwork is done before you leave, especially when it affects other peoples lives. I never felt very big until I started research on the band, and since then I am very aware of how big I truely am. I have even stopped going to a buffet because I don't like the thought that people may be watching the fat lady at the feeding bin. once she does get back from vacation I have to make sure i call before they start seeing patiants or they can't even talk to me then because they are too busy. This is starting to get to me. Maybe I should see if there are any other surgeons in the area that can do this if they are this busy even before I get the band done. I am so confused.

    starting the insurance circus

 Ok I called the surgeons office today and they said it takes about 3 to 4 weeks to get the insurnace approval. I asked if it had been sent and she said it takes a while to get the approval. I called insurance co (TriCare) and they said it only takes 3 to 5 days max but they have to get the request for approval first and nothing has been sent in. When my PCM did the refferal for the surgeon it wa there by the time I got home that afternoon. My appointment with the surgeon was last Monday and they haven't gotten anything from them. I'm not sure if it is the surgeon office that is dragging their feet or if the mailed it to take longer instead of calling or faxing the refferal. It really does make you feel like a piece of meat and not a person when they put off your paperwork like it doesn't matter when or if i ever gets filed. Just had to vent a little bit. I was getting ready for this to be done and start moving throught hte steps of post op diet and getting the scales to go down instead of up. ~~ :cool2:

  5. That was the smile I needed. I too feel that with all the information we get on here that sometimes it makes the staff sound like a"Used car salesmen" at a mechanics convention. That being said I don't think it is off limits just needs to be taken with limits. Watch the calories and if you can afford them and keep the weight where you are happy, go for it.
  6. Keep plugging one day at a time. You are more than half way through the liquids and don't want to make a mistake now. It will be over before you now it. Your weight loss is going good and I n that has to be a great feeling.

    Dating after Lapband

Something I learned when I was dating is to use candles. They give you enough light to be able to see what you want and the shadows from the candlelight helps to cover any flaws you might feel like you have. I was always very insecure and the candle thing really helped my when I got together with my current husband. We came up with the saying "shadows are kind" and that helped him with some of he things he didn't want me see about his body. Just a suggestion, it worked for us.
  8. from everything that I have read it actually increases her chances of getting pregnant as her weight becomes more of a healthy one. It will also make her pregnancy and delivery much better if she is not so heavy, and as for the waiting, she is so young she has plenty of time. Good luck with your band and one day being a grandparent.
  9. Manatee, I think it is becuase they want to know what you 'magic' was so they can look better themselves. People don't think before they speak often enough. I have experienced this with twins, the first thing everyone used to ask was "are the twins natural or did you have fertility treatments". Just answer who you want to and the others ask them "how long have you been wearing a hairpiece" They usually get the hint, and if not just walk away.

    long day

I keep checking the web site to see if the request for approval has been sent to insurance yet. Nothing there. I am getting so anxious about know yes or no. I have not made plans for this summer yet because my insurance tends to go quickly after they approve the band. I do have a family get together the first weekend in September and I would like to be the small one there as my whole family (cousins, aunts, uncles) are all large people. I haven't seem most of then since before I had my kids and they are 9 now. It will be nice to see them all, but I don't want to be in pre or post op diets (liquid) stages when I'm there. Why don't doctors understand that it might just be their job but it is our lives they keep on hold. Ok I'll stop for now.

    Pictures

I have one that looks a little like your hospital picture, but it was when I was about to deliver the twins. How old is your little minpin, and what is her/his name?

    GI Test

Just wait until the chalk like stuff gets to the other end. It is no picnic there either. Drink lots of water to make it easier, at least they have improved the taste from what I've been told. 20 years ago it was even nastier.

thank you so much for the recipe. I love crab cakes also but they are so expensive when you buy them premade.

    surgeon consult

I had my consult with the surgeon yesterday. It was not what I had hoped for. He sat down with a notebook and drew a picture of the stomach, liver, etc.. Than drew a picture of a gastric bypass and told me that would be better for me than the lapband. OMG!! He said it was because of the dietbetic things. I only have insulin resistence and am not even required to check my blood sugar ever day much less taking insulin for it. I can get a handle on doing the lapband, but I would rather die quick and fat before I have the bypass done. I am hoping that he was just having a bad day or somehting like that. Here is my big delimna-- have it done close to home with a less than helpful surgeon or drive over 2 hours and have it done by a clinic that is wonderful. However I would not be able to take part in most of their programs because it is over 2 hours away. I am so confused, also the fact that he kept looking at my chest during the consult didn't help either. (haven't told hubby about that part) Needless to say it was not a wonderful apointment.

    Post-Op problems...HELP

I have not been banded yet, but I do want to know what type of problems that other are having. It makes it easier to give the "informed concent" that they ask for. If no one ever tells us of things that can go wrong than we all start feeling that we are the first ones and then get scared (sound familier). I have learned one major thing about his site, no matter what the question or problem the people at this site are more than willing to help. You will find the light at the end of the tunnel again and I hope that we can help.

    Aching legs

I do take medication for restless legs, and yes when they act up it does hurt all day the next day too. Like a sore muscle trying to be a charlie horse. that being said when I can't take my med for it I drink V8 juice and that helps some because of the potassium. However if it is of concern call your doc like someone else posted or if it lasts more than a day or two.

    Second thoughts pre opt

Flowers, You have said that you can loose the weight on the different diets, but you don't want to Yo-yo. Witht he band there is not a stop date. You can have the fills adjusted up or down, but it is there forever. I to have tried a few diets but get so obsessed with food that I gain more weight. I have tried going to the gym even started doing the 5k walks every month for a while, ended up gaining weight. I have been cutting back on portion size since movning back to the states (2 months) and for the second time I have gained more weight. I see the band as a helper to try to loose some of the weight before they give me the only option of the bypass. It is not a magic piece of sylicone that will make the weight dissapear, but it is like any other diet, basically relearning how to live one day to the next and helfully each new day is healthier with a little reminder of help in our bellies. If you are ready then go for it, if you need more time, wait until it is right for you.
  20. OK, here it is, STOP EATING WHAT YOUR NOT SUPOSED TO. You are so young and this is not easy to change bad habits. You need to be careful so that you don't end up hurting your stomach while it is healing with the band. ASk your mom and boyfriend if they will eat some of the things you are suposed to eat so that it will be more normal of a meal, if they are hungry later they can go get something when you can't watch. If you need some reasurance please email me. I will be checking back a little later tonight after I get my kids to bed.

    Tricare Approval?

my pcm weighs me with my shoes on. If you are realy that close a few extra milshakes would probably get you the approval, if you want to go that far. I know we all hate the thought of gaining more, but if it is just for a short time to get the approval it might be worth it not to be turned down.

    surgeon consult this afternoon

Maybe I'm just getting very nervous but I didn't sleep much last night. I have my first appointment with the surgeon this afternoon and don't know what to expect. I have heard some people say good things things about this guy but the internet says something totally different. I am hoping to get a good feeling from him because I would like to stay local if I can, If not I do know a good place that is only 2 hours away. 2 hours isn't that far unless gas keep going on it's upward track. Ok I guess this post is just nerves.

    When I said I do...

I too love country music, then again I grew up with it in OK City. I have found that everyone can relate to a country song and finding more of the POP artists on the country charts. When I lost my first baby (lived for 2 hours) the song "the River" by Garth Brooks was so strong for me then and now. We put the lirics of that song on her momoriem. She still sings it to me from heaven when I'm having a bad time.

I ended up giving this site to a few of the ladies that were there looking for more information. Good luck on your quest
