What Foods did you have to give up?
legallyKristin replied to BakoGal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Jessica- I think our surgeons came from a similar school of thought. That was the diet prescribed to me. I did have to go on mushies a day or two earlier because I was exercising a lot and getting weak, but other than that I think it helped my healing. All surgeons are different, but the one that we were on was what is recommended by Inamed. Kristin -

LMAO Telly. Just remember "1st RULE: You do not talk about FIGHT CLUB. 2nd RULE: You DO NOT talk about FIGHT CLUB. 3rd RULE: If someone says "stop" or goes limp, taps out the fight is over. 4th RULE: Only two guys (or girls) to a fight. 5th RULE: One fight at a time. 6th RULE: No shirts, no shoes. 7th RULE: Fights will go on as long as they have to. 8th RULE: If this is your first night at FIGHT CLUB, you HAVE to fight." I think most people do lose weight on the liquid phase, I think it's the mushie phase where people tend to gain. I would think that if you choose good/healthy liquids with Protein and you should be able to see some weight loss. I was on liquids for 2 weeks and I lost 10 lbs as well. Maybe adding some exercise will help kickstart your metabolism? Best of luck! Kristin

Lianna- I'm with ya. I was freaking out last month when it happened. I could barely drink Water. It stinks! I considered talking to my doc about changing my birth control to the type where you only have a period every 3 months. I haven't done it yet, but hey, it's a thought. It lasted the day before my TOM and 3 days after for my band to loosen up a bit. Hope things even out for you soon, I know it's miserable!! Kristin

Two weeks today! What to have prepared??
legallyKristin replied to oreilly76's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you have to do Clear liquids for a week like I did, I lived on light white grape juice (sweetened with Splenda) and broth with unjury unflavored Protein powder. (www.unjury.com) It tasted like regular broth and the protein helped keep me "full". Oh and the best thing I bought, was definately a recliner. Getting in and out of bed with a sore abdomen is tough, so I slept in the recliner for about 2 weeks...it really helps! Best of luck with the impending surgery! Kristin -
I just felt my port for the 1st time...
legallyKristin replied to GreatDame's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yup. I can feel mine. But mine is about 2 inches left of my belly button. I didn't want to feel mine until after my first fill, 6 weeks after surgery, just thinking about it would have made me run through the house too. It's not weird now though, it's kinda cool. So are my ribs that you can actually feel now. lol. Kristin -
Did you tell anyone before surgery, and do you tell people now?
legallyKristin replied to Sedonagirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My close family knows and a few close friends. I don't think it's anyone's business really. Before surgery I mentioned to a few friends that I was thinking about getting it, and they basically tried to talk me out of it and said it was the easy way and if I just worked harder and ate what they did then I would lose weight. HHAHAH. Yeh, those people don't know. There is one girl at school who has weight issues that I've told and it was a great encouragement for her, she now goes to Jazzercise classes with me everyday. I think it's just sorta a case-by-case basis for me too. Kristin -

LOTSOFKIDS- You're already on to fish and potatoes after 8 days! Be careful, I'm sure it's what your doc told you but take it easy because you're really trying to heal. At 8 days out, I think most of us were still on liquids/soups or mushies. Kristin -

I too will take a pic this evening, I think it's a great idea! And can someone tell me more about this sauna suit??? If I could wear it at a Jazzercise class, that might not be a bad idea... As a side note, I'm feeling better from the acid reflux which resulted from a morning PB on Tuesday. I didn't sleep at all Tuesday night but yesterday was better I was able to get down Soup and today I'm able to comfortably drink my morning Protein shake. I'm going to stick to liquids a few more days, especially since the scale is making nice little jumps. Hope everyone has a great day!!! Kristin -

Saul, that might be A LOT if you have a 4cc band. I was banded 3/8/06 and I got 2cc in a 4cc band and then had to get .2 taken out. It's helped a lot. I have only PBed 2x since surgery, both on things I shouldn't have eaten. You really should talk to your doc, vomiting all the time doesn't seem normal, IMHO. Good luck! Kristin

Post Op Liquid Diet Recipe Ideas
legallyKristin replied to MJK Media's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The Sam's near my house also sells the La Madeline's tomato soup in a jar. It's very yummy. AND Amourette, different docs recommend different diets. (i.e. Adkins=cream and butter) so I'm sure that everyone knows to adjust accordingly. When I was post-op I would just eat about 2-4 oz of the jar version of the La Madeline's soup and it really helped fill me up, and I still lost 17 lbs in the month post op. Kristin -
I can't imagine trying to do a 400 calorie diet NOW when you said that you didn't have any restriction yet. You have every right to feel miserable, it's like dieting all over again. IMHO, stick with the nutritionist. The time after surgery before your first fill is for healing, not starving yourself on 400 calories! Kristin
-
Yeh, IME, until you get the fill there isn't the restriction which would allow you only to eat 2 oz. I was eating 4 -8 oz prior to my fill and then got back pretty close to pre-op (i.e. a 6" sub sandwich). After the fill I went to the 2 oz. Remember the time before the first fill is for HEALING, you're generally not expected to lose. Kristin

I've never even heard of the sauna suit. That sounds really interesting. I may have to check that out! Kristin
-
I also take 2 Flintstones with Iron. C 224 (-74 lb total, -2 this week) 172 points total for challenge! YAH! ;)Kristin

PB in AM-->Reflux in PM?
legallyKristin replied to legallyKristin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you sooo much! I took some Pepcid Complete and it seems to have made things tolerable. Hopefully all will be much better tomorrow. But I will definately stay on liquids for 3-4 days because I definately don't want that unfill. Thanks for settling my mind! Kristin -
Guys, I'm kinda miserable. I've got 1.8cc in a 4.0cc band and it has been a good level for me. But this morning I PBed Breakfast (only the 2nd time I've ever PBed) and now I'm not able to drink anything because it keeps refluxing back up. I also had bad hiccups earlier. HELP! I'm in pain and I need to get through the night and will call Dr. in the morning. Thanks in advance! Kristin
-
Thank you so much for this board! Without it I would be bugging my doctor's office incessantly. Ya'll do a great job keeping things running smoothly. Thanks so much! Kristin
-
Thanks for the support Tricia! (((hugs))) It's nice to know I'm not the only one on a stupid plateau. Of course, maybe I will bust my plateau at weigh in tomorrow. I haven't been able to eat/drink much today. I PB'ed this morning and am having trouble even drinking hot tea. Well, glad everyone is doing well! AND be sure to check out TELLY in the Before & After pic thread!! The girl is HOTTTTT in a bathing suit! Kristin

What Foods did you have to give up?
legallyKristin replied to BakoGal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The one time I ate sushi since my band I didn't have any problem. Of course I had to take small bites, but rice doesn't bother me. Now that I have more restriction though the seaweed may be troublesome. I'm not a huge sushi fan though, maybe 2x a year. Congrats on the impending surgery! Kristin -
Thanks Telly & PNut! Plateaus suck. I have a BEACH wedding on June 10th, so I have to go swimsuit shopping soon and I really wanted to be down about 10 lb more. But oh well. Any ideas on youthful yet covering swimsuits :omg: ??? And count me in on another challenge, it really helped keep me accountable.

I still eat out ALOT! However, I make better decisions and basically choose items that I chose when I was doing Adkins. I order a grilled chicken breast, fajitas, Soup or a deli turkey sandwich. I eat the meat and toss the bread. BE CAREFUL and don't make the mistake of eating the appetizer bread, even one bite makes me unable to eat the rest of my "good" dinner because it gives me a golfball. The only real problem I have with eating out is the amount of leftovers. I don't order off the kids meal because they are generally poor food choices and it would be embarrasing anyway. So my fridge is loaded with to-go boxes. Kristin
