  1. My advice would be to follow what your nutritionist and Dr. recommend but also listen to your body. You will be having a challenge just meeting liquid and Protein goals. In the first week I'd say liquid>protein since you dehydrate quick. I was pretty much sipping on something all day those first few weeks since my stomach was full relatively fast. I drank a lot of clear Protein Drinks, broth and sugar free pops my first week which was clear and the second week I ate Protein Shakes, thin Soups and more pops. My program wanted 62 ounces liquid and 60 grams protein.

Don't worry about having a giant variety of stuff since you will probably not like or not want much of it. I bought several kinds of soups and only really liked 2 of them. The rest are still in the cabinet.

  2. I love spicy food and my palate is a little more sensitive after surgery. I cook a lot of different Asian foods for myself but try to tweak them to cut out sugar/carbs. It helps to satisfy the craving without caving.
I made curried meatballs the other night and for the sauce I substituted the usual cream with greek yogurt and could honestly not tell the difference. The only thing I missed was the Naan bread lol

  3. I won't miss feeling exhausted before I even get out the door.
I won't miss not being in pictures with my daughter instead of just taking pictures of her.
I won't miss feeling trapped by my body when trying to plan any event or trip.
I won't miss making excuses as to why I decline an invitation to something since I'm too embarrassed to say it's because I'm too fat to do it.
I won't miss looking at myself with disinterest and accepting the limitations I put on myself as all that there is.

  4. first week home don't worry about calories just focus on fluids. your stomach is probably still swollen from surgery so just getting Fluid in is a challenge. over time fluids are easy and other food is harder. did your surgeon send you home with a diet plan? if so I would just stick to that for now. some of the things they give in the hospital might be a bit different than what they expect at home.

  5. My nutritionist had given a few choices of chewable bariatric brands or doubling the adult dose of regular Multi Vitamins with Iron. I tried the bariatric fusion, bariatric pal, Centrum adult and finally Flintstones with iron. The fusion were just too often and too big, the bariatric pal had this chalkyness that made me gag, the centrum were ok but still a lot to do two at once so I had to split the dose and the Flintstones were just right.

  6. I had a VSG on Monday July 13th. I wound up having a ridiculous amount of nausea from the anesthesia and spent some extra days in the hospital. The pain is manageable and still getting some rumbling stomach feelings every so often but I've been religious about drinking fluids. I'm happy overall and excited for the future. I have noticed my sense of smell feels stronger and my taste buds are a bit off from before.
