    VSG to Revision

There is "tilt table" xray they can do to prove GERD. You swallow barium and they tilt table with head down. Can actually see the barium reflux up. You might ask your center if that test proving reflux would help qualify you. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. On my 90-day medically supervised diet required by Medicare. Have 2nd weigh-in Feb 17. My goal weight before last weigh-in is 229. This AM my weight is 233[emoji847][emoji847] Will likely get below 229 a month early. Getting excited about having gastric sleeve surgery. I will be 67 in March and have 5 comorbidities. My BMI is 45. My PCP told me in December I was now pre-diabetic. That made my decision for WLS immediately. Already have PCP approval and Psych Eval. I drink one Premier Protein to replace a meal each day. Really like Caramel flavor and will likely continue this plan for several months after surgery. Just discovered Sam's Club has 12-pack for $17.79 which is huge savings. So immediately bought membership for $45 and ordered two 12-packs for store pickup tomorrow. So if any of you have a Sam's Club nearby and drink Premeir Protein, check it out. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. I add Premier Protein to my morning coffee, caramel or chocolate. Guilt-free. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Protein Drinks Isopure

I started Isopure but hate the watery consistency. Like drinking milk flavored water. Have you tried Premier Protein? Most people really like the flavors. I like Caramel. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Just starting the process

I have been taking meds for bipolar for a number of years. Took MMPI-2 as part of my psych eval and showed I am totally "normal". Really shocked my psychologist. I will stay on meds though to be sure I stay stable. If you have mental health issues, they just want to be sure that you are: (1) stable on meds and continue under treatment (2) Addressing any eating problems. (3) You have adequate social support (family, friends, church, etc.) I was pretty stressed about psych eval because my history. Don't stress about it. If you have a current therapist, see if your bariatric center will accept psych eval by him/her. Who knows you better? Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. Anyone find an app that tracks daily food intake and exercise. I really don't want 2 separate apps. No fitbit crap. Fitbit totally inaccurate. I did 3 loads of laundry and folded and put away. It said I took 10k steps. Truck drivers report counting 25k steps just from driving (steering, shifting). I don't want recipe app. Just a tracker of what I ate and calculate macros. Fitness trackers

All wrist worn fitness trackers are crap. I guess people love them because it says they did way more exercise than they actually did. I did 3 loads of laundry and folded and Samsung watch said I took 10k steps. Truck drivers report 25k steps just steering and shifting with Fitbit. If you just track time with elevated heartbeat (cardio), you get a better estimate. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. I am at the very beginning of approval process. Attended orientation and waiting for initial appointment in January. I am age 66 and have Medicare & Supplement Policy. BMI=45, 245 lbs. 5'1" tall. Have a number of obesity-related comorbidities which my primary reason for looking at bariatric surgery. Most health insurance companies require 3-6 month medically supervised weight loss program showing some successful weight loss on own for approval. Medicare is totally weird. They require 3 months medically supervised weight loss program with full participation and you must demonstrate FAILURE to qualify. If you can lose 10% of your weight in 3 months, you won't qualify. For me, that is less than 24 pounds in about 90 days to be FAILURE. Pretty ridiculous to not qualify because first 10 pounds will only be water loss. I don't have initial appointment until sometime in January (I guess docs want us to get through holiday season for first weigh without worrying about weight gain/loss). Anyone here had WLS under Medicare?
  10. Very few psych drugs are available in liquid form. Many are time-released. So your doc needs to be part of your pre-op plan. Be sure you are on the meds you can stay on after surgery.
  11. Anyone preparing for WLS must taper off any psych drug that has withdrawal symptoms BEFORE surgery date. Do your own research as most docs won't tell you a drug has horrible withdrawal symptoms.
  12. Passed insurance coverage check. My Initial appointment is scheduled January 7. I already filled out Family, Personal Health and Surgical History through online app. I have been practicing water sipping, chewing bites many times and mindful eating. I know. Surgery is at least 3 months. But trying to develop new habits so won't have to focus on those the first weeks after surgery. Sent from my SM-T580 using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. I just started my journey by attending an orientation seminar. Decided to tell one sister who worked medical-related career. Her first reaction was, "No way. I would never want to lose my ability to eat what I want." I am one of six kids in family. All six of us became obese in adulthood but I was first starting about age 20. My weight is now highest it has ever been at 245 with BMI at 45. I have multitple comorbidities and found out last week I am pre-diabetic with A1C at 6.2%. I told her at age 66 I didn't have enough years to lose weight to prevent diabetes/heart disease. My reason for wanting WLS is I want to live more years in retirement than Dad who died at 72 from obesity, heart disease and diabetes. She mellowed out some but kept telling me about all the horrible complications she has seen in people with gastric bypass. I told her she was only seeing those with complications and not most WLS people who do great. "Do whatever you want but really get informed before you decide." EXACTLY. My life. My health. My retirement. Wait until she is morbidly obese herself. Sent from my SM-T580 using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. OMG. Effexor is fine until you go off. I had horrible withdrawal symptoms requiring ER visit. I didn't realize I was having withdrawal and thought something was really wrong with me. I had limb jerks, horrible headache and flushing. Never stop Effexor cold turkey. Do a slow dose reduction as advised by your doc. I will never take Effexor again. Am I losing my mind...

Yes. Many factors come to play in marriages. I suspect dysfunctional relationships already exist before one gets WLS. Spouse may be supportive at first but the big changes after WLS wreak havoc if the partner has own issues, resents the expenses of new wardrobe, can't just go party or out to eat together as before. 16. I have read many books and watching lots of YouTube videos. Especially "Dr V". He spares no punches getting me to seriously examine myself and my eating behaviors that got me obese. Yes, obviously genetics is a factor. But how I eat is mostly to blame. I have always been single (no kids) and had professional career. But I eat when bored or feeling lonely. And I have a sugar addiction which props up my depression. I own that and something I have been working on with therapist for a couple of years. He supports my decision for bariactric surgery. It would give me a new beginning. I have maintained 230-240 pounds for five years as I have gradually made changes for better me. As I lose weight, I will be able to begin exercising. Get severe low back pain just walking from big belly and have heel spur (been working with podiatrist on that). Sent from my SM-T580 using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. Yep, that's it. She has severe GERD. I told her that high carb diet is one of the causes. "I might have to give up my favorite italian pastas?" She needs to give up more than pasta if she wants to have a healthy retirement (she just retired at age 62). She has been vegetarian all her life. So diet is lots of bread, pasta, muffins, bagels, potato casseroles, milk, flavored yogurt, cereal and veggies. Also, has had severe sleep apnea for at least 10 years but refuses to get help because doesn't want to use CPAP. All six of us have small airways. She is the only one not on CPAP. So she hasn't come to the point that her health isn't impotant enough yet to make lifestyle changes. Sent from my SM-T580 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Am I losing my mind...

I read in a research paper that said WLS caused 75% divorce rate. That is for WLS person who was obese when couple got married. Somehow, it is hard for spouse to accept the new, thinner person. Sent from my SM-T580 using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. Yours was revision so maybe requirements are different than initial surgery. I would hate to end up with $10k bill if I have to pay if not preapproved. So I still need Medicare required screening (3-month medically supervised diet with FAILURE to lose weight, psych eval, nutrition visits, etc.
