  1. Dr.V, another bariatric specialist on YT has many such videos and here he suggests working on getting "lean muscle mass" once you hit the goal and in the normal BMI range. Do you agree with his take? I know many here start their weight training quite early during their weight loss phase. So what's your opinion on his take? I would love to hear some input and opinions based on your personal experience. https://youtu.be/Sb63zPQxk0o

What do you guys think of this video?

Yeh it makes sense that your scale won't move much, so if one is focused on those numbers it may seem counterproductive. But when you build muscles, you still lose fat. It's just gained muscles balance it out hence scale stalls.

What do you guys think of this video?

Yeh I believe he exaggerated right there. Weight training doesn't need to be waited until you hit your normal BMI. But I believe he was making a point about post-Op diet and calorie deficit. A lot of us are on major calorie deficit until we hit our goal. So I wonder with such reduced calorie, is it enough to build muscles if there is sufficient protein intake of between 60 to 80g? 🤔

    Tattoos

As an overweight individual, I always felt trapped. So my desire was to get a tattoo that celebrates my freedom from this chronic weighted cage. Theze are some of my ideas for a tattoo. Quite generic and many have had it, but it truly calls me out 😂 I am not a fan of tattoos but want to get something similar when I achieve my goal, but that decision will truly happen once I cross the bridge.
  5. Fat shaming happens in almost all cultures. Some culture more than others. I grew up in India and even normal BMI back then, I was called fat 🤷🏻‍♀️ (I am short so even little bit of weight and it would show up). Mom faced similar trajectory too. She was always called chubby even when she weighed 47 kilos at 5'0. Again normal BMI 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ For Indian culture I suppose anything more than 19 or 20 of BMI and your chubby/fat 🤦🏻‍♀️ Plus the first thing family (close and extended) would comment is on your weight no matter where you go. Happened a lot to me growing up. And after PCOS, I blew up and comments everytime I visited India were around my weight than my achievements 🤷🏻‍♀️ Similar weight culture can be found in other Asian countries too. And Yeh, some people can slid it off but it's difficult to do so when you're only judged constantly based on your weight all your life than your success in life. Aka life took a deep blow and dive over chronic piled on years of criticism. It affected mental health dramatically and results have been disastrous. Still trying to climb up through the rabbit hole. Hopefully after WLS, life will take a different turn. So yeh, criticism/suggestions from parents or siblings or even your doctor doesn't bother much, but constant weight related remarks from every tom d**k and Harry does pile up. It's easy to say ignore and move on but quite difficult to practice. Though truly, best practice is to ignore and do your thing that is best for your health. Social media also has this "If one is fat, what else are they supposed to be called?" Or that "calling out fat people will help them lose weight 🤦🏻‍♀️" All that is nothing but a way to mock fat people and take out their frustrations on others.

Feeling stuffed and not getting as hungry

@SmankySo I had an appt with my family physician. Here usually FPs take over after the surgery to monitor the blood work and the other medical aspects. She thinks may be calcium supplements may be causing the constipation, bloating and feeling stuffed. Asked me to cut down on the supplements since my blood work looks good and I also consume more than enough dairy to get my calcium naturally. Today I feel better. Another reason could be my periods, which happened after 6 months or so. So I guess I had forgotten how it felt to have periods lol. So bloating and all could be because of it too. Will give it a week or so for body to settle with reduced calcium supplement and periods. Hopefully bloating and all subsides soon.
  7. So I believe tummy fat usually does take time to lose. I have noticed losing weight overall from most areas of the body and of course tummy as well. But it seems more is coming from areas than tummy. Abdominal fat is a resistive for sure. What can be done to speed it up? Or will it the last one on the weight lost track?

Did you lose your tummy fat last?

I do measure myself. Like I mentioned in my first post, I have lost inches, but not as significant as other areas I would say. Let's see. I don't like measuring myself too often since inches lose quite closely with weight. But I do keep a track of it.

    Binge eating

@thinbluelineI can relate a lot to your struggle. Sure I wasn't 300 pounds but given my height I was pretty out there with a BMI of >45. Like MGB mentioned, it does get triggered by restrictive dieting and mine surely did right after I was done a 2 months of Dr. Bernstein's diet program. Only 2 months and it wrecked good 15 years of my life. I developed eating disorder without even realizing what it was. Intially it wasn't as bad as in I put on the lost weight and gained some more. But as I started my grad school and towards the end of it, ED got severely bad. Depression, anxiety made it a lot worse. I never thought of getting the treatment since I was always on the yo-yo dieting trip. Binge Binge Binge, increased weight, dieting (and wreaking even more of my metabolism) and the loop continued over years. This did right till my pre-Op diet phase. Midnight binging while everyone's sleep behind the closed door was my jam. It's of course horrible a cycle. But food brings comfort and kicks your happy hormones. Hence the contineud cycle. It is an ADDICTION. And you should get the help. If you haven't gotten the help or the help given isn't enough, I'll say surgery does help. That's my personal experience. Everyone is different, because everyone functions differently along with their bodies. So it isn't hopeless to think surgery won't work. Even with full on BED, it has worked for me. But for some, they require therapy. May be down the line year or two post-Op I may need it too. All I am saying is that surgery helps controlling your urges, hormones and desire of binging. It cuts down on the constant 'I wanna eat this eat that, what more can I have tomorrow, what should I eat in the night, what restaurants are open, google browsing' etc etc etc. The cycle does break. So stay optimistic and go with a positive mindset that surgery will help control your BED. And if you wanna make sure you're in control of BED before surgery, try therapy like others suggested. You have to do what will help you on a success trip. Hoping you get to break away from this 'food horror' cycle. ❤️

    Binge eating

Sunlight? That got me interested since even now I dislike Sunlight or working in the daylight. There's something that makes Sunlight or bright room not as comforting so I prefer usually working with curtains down in the daytime. Eating disorder AND Sunlight? Though I would say my eating disorder is at the bay post surgery. Haven't had even a single slip or desire to indulge in it. But then again I am only 4 months post Op.

Hahhahahaha reminds me of Kdramas 😂 Do you have a Korean background or connection or just love Korean food? I see you have achieved your goal weight. So congrats for that. I do have one question, when did you start incorporating rice in your diet?

Now thinking if canceling surgery 🥺

Thanks for sharing. Meta-analysis is the best kinda literature and trumps any single study.

Now thinking if canceling surgery 🥺

I was given the option of Sleeve vs Bypass but chose bypass because I didn't want the risk of revision if GERD and also wanted a surgery that had better statistics to back up given my history of PCOS. So have you considered of Bypass? I think out of pocket means it may little more expensive for you to get bypass but do give it a thought and do your research to ease your nerves. Also like others mentioned, you shouldn't get intimidated by certain some a experiences. If some have had not so great experience, there are also others out here who have found success and turned a new leaf in their lives. Every experience is different and not everyone is going to describe their detailed medical history here. So best option for you is to speak to your surgical team and see what they have to say about your dilemma.

    Hair falling out

My surgical team have advised the same. Hair loss/fall is bound to happen but they'll eventually stop and go back to your usual. Till then continue with the protein/vitamins. I was told not to waste money on extra supplements since they don't make much difference.

    Any Regrets?

Issue of GERD with sleeve is definitely there. There are also some surgical complications that would hover our heads. But that is the reason why surgeons and doctors opt for surgery on the "pros outweighs the cons" concept. If you're worried of sleeve giving your GERD, look at the bypass option. Bypass is even used for long term GERD cure. There are also people on the forum who have had revision from sleeve to bypass because of GERD. So it isn't like you're stuck with having GERD for lifetime. You can do your research on bypass or if your mind is set on VSG, ask your doctor the options of PPI, revision to bypass etc etc etc if you end up with GERD-y complication. Good luck.

    Gained it all back.

I sorry you have had such a huge setback with your weight loss surgery. I hope you're recovering well post your accident. And I am sure therapist should help bring you back on track in terms of your mental health which may help restart your weight loss journey. Since physically, you'll be extremely inactive, first step should be working through diet regiment. Restart the program and go back to your surgical weight loss diet phase. Of course you'll only be able to do that once eyoi get your eating disorder in somewhat control. Good luck with your journey and wish you all the very best.

Bernstein diet after weight loss surgery?

They go on your belly unfortunately. Still have PTSD of a kind of being jabbed 3x a week right in your belly. 😥

    One Year Sleeve Anniversary!!

Firstly congrats on your journey, 80 pounds is an achievement definitely. As for your weight loss journey, if you still desire to lose more, like many suggested, you will have to cut down on your calories no matter how much you're able to consume. Because 1800 seems more like a maintenance calories, so if you aren't losing, do a 1200 or 1400 calories a day and/or increased physical activity. Once you're done with your weight loss phase, you can always go back to the maintenance calories.
  24. I'll try to DM you my meal plan soon or if I forget, just shoot me a message.
  25. I am not exactly sure what stage you're at. If you can fill out your profile, it would give us a better picture. During my full fluid phase I was easily able to consume 1/2 cup. So it all depends on what stage you're at and the kinda food you're consuming. 3 months post-Op and I can easily do 3/4 cup of meal. Half of it is usually yogurt and other half would be beans, lentils, veggies, some grains, fruits etc etc. So it all depends on the kinda food you're referring to and the stage you're at.
