Look on the bright side, the "calories don't count during the holidays" people are gonna die before you.

MourningTheLossOfBeer got a reaction from Krimsonbutterflies in Nervous and unsure about surgery
Im not even 4 weeks out, so my experience is limited compared to some others on here. First, i never thought of myself as a candidate for surgery. I guess i was in denial and always thought that i could just lose the weight if i "wanted to". We'll I've wanted to for the last 8 years, finally my wife convinced me that something had to change, add in the fact that i have a 4 year old and 1 year old. So if a little sacrifice now will keep me around for them longer, then I'm willing to do whatever it takes. My insurance company required 6 months of nutrition visits before paying for my surgery, so i had 6 months to get my act in gear and lose weight on my own, i didn't. Ultimately that was the final affirmation that i needed to know that i would be better off with the surgery. I can tell you in just 4 weeks, I'm sleeping better, feeling better, off all meds and have more energy and i still have another 70 lbs to lose. I can tell you that there were some concerns on my behalf about gas pains, stomach pains and recovery, i had none of that and I credit that to the surgeon and the care that i received. As for the actual surgery, do your research, find a reputable surgeon, make your decision and go for it.

Had surgery 11/21. Started at 328, 310 day of surgery currently at 286. Post op was pretty painless. I'm easily getting in all my fluids and Protein. There's already a noticeable difference in my appearance. I saw a buddy of mine that i have seen in a few months last Friday to watch the Heat game and he couldn't believe it. He also told me he was proud of me for making the decision to have surgery, so that felt good coming from someone other than family. I definitely have more energy already and I'm killing my wife's honey do list. I'm not missing much in the way of food except for beer obvs, and since it's the holidays there are rib roasts everywhere, but other than that I can cope. Finally, i will have a reveal of sorts this week as I have not shaved since pre surgery so i have no idea what my face looks like under this scruff. But it feels like my double chin is now a 1.5 chin. Hope everyone else is doing well.

Just like everything else with this surgery, experiences vary. I had little to no gas pain. Hope yours is smooth.

MourningTheLossOfBeer got a reaction from Slownstedy in No leak test done?
My doctor explained that they do 3 leak test. One during the operation, one where you drink the nasty crap, then they also monitor your port for leaks. Sounds like they missed or elected not to do one of your tests. As to food leaking into your abdomen, I would think you would have been very sick already as stomach acid would be leaking as well. If you're not feeling any illness or strange pains I wouldn't be too worried. But it might not hurt to call your doctor.

I'm sure others have more experience than me, but I'm 1 week post OP. My dr allows purees as tolerated after day 3, although I waited until today to start. I had some Turkey with a teaspoon of gravy and maybe a tablespoon or 2 of potatoes. Didn't puree it, but chewed it into oblivion. Definitely feel full, but not bad. Just take it slow and listen to your body.

Hey all, I am 5 days post OP. Overall the procedure was really smooth. I didn't take any narcotics after the first day, and no pain meds at all since leaving the hospital. Gas pain was at a minimum, and I was up and walking around the same night. I was concerned by some of the stories I had read on here, but it seems like I received great care. I feel like I'm starting to get my appetite back but wont be able to progress to mushy food for another nine days. Just a bump in the road I guess. I started my pre OP diet on 11/5 @ 328 lbs, as of this morning I'm at 299, (309 on surgery day), so it's the first time being sub 300 in over a decade. I know this is just the beginning and I'm sure there will be more challenges ahead, but I wanted to put this out there for someone like myself that was just lurking and being intimidated by some of the bad experiences that some have posted.

Been lurking for awhile. It's going down tomorrow at 10am, so I broke down and created an account. I'm sure I'll be back with questions. It's been great reading other people's experiences. I think I'm ready.

This is the type of insight I'm looking for. Have you tried any of the beers carbonated with nitro instead of CO2?
