    Extremely Discouraged!!!

honestly it could be a plateu just for plateu's sake. At my six month mark I became sooo depressed because I just wasn't losing even though my eating stayed the same/was getting better and even an increase in exercise. However after months of staying at the same weight it suddenly dropped off again...and since then I've lost another 35lbs so I wouldn't get too discouraged yet. Just keep truckin along...and I totally feel your pain on the PCOS it's a b****. lol
  3. Just wondering what everyone's top weight was. And also if teens have a better shot at losing more of their excess weight and having less of a problem with saggy skin. I still have to go see my doc and get approved but I'm currently 259 and 5'4".

You know you are a bandster when....

haha now that I have a ton of restriction...HALF of a six inche subway sandwich looks mammoth...I almost get a gut ache just thinking about it lol

    Twenties NSVs

I went into Kohl's yesterday, went into the Juniors even...and got a dress size L! Not an XL a L! Yay! lol ---edit--- sadly though, just went to go swimsuit shopping...had to get a 2X top...stupid boobs! (On a side note, any big chested ladies out there know where to find swimsuits...I think I'm a 36G)

    Average age of a Bandster?

It is very easy to rebound with the bypass. It does happen to quite a few (not all). But their stomachs start out smaller and they can strech. Also, as in my mom's case, you can learn to munch throuhgout the day, therefore increasing your daily caloric intake. With the band, if I notice I'm not losing it forces me to look at myself and think about what I'm eating and the choices I"m making. The people that get stuck at 30-50 might not be choosing the best habits or they might have a doctor unwilling to help them get to their fill sweet-spot. For instance, I had ok restriction and I was stuck at about 45lbs lost and then went in for another small fill and boom! it started coming off again. I've cut out a lot of breads, fried foods, fast food. I'm cooking for myself, no matter how chaotic my daily schedule is, and well the weight is coming off again. I'm so glad for the slowness too. As when my mother had the bypass, though she had an existing heart problem, it made her weaker, and she ended up with congestive heart failure, having to get her gall bladder out, and a heart valve replaced as well as a pacemaker. She was having a hard time getting protein and nutrients down and it's still a struggle for her. I'm glad with the lapband it is adjustable so we can really truely think about our health, not just losing this damned weight.

    Average age of a Bandster?

EbonyRose...Not going to lie I'm a sneak eater too. And my mother had the bypass and lost a bunch and then gained some back. However I would encourage your daughter to get the lapband. For me so much has changed since I had surgery. I might not be exercising all the time or eating like a health freak. I am relatively normal. But I used to be the extreme of bad habits. My mother was overweight and so she would comment on my weight and what I ate and it hurt me, so I backlashed (unfortunately against myself) and I ate anyway and twice as bad. I practically never moved, I ate bags of candy at a time, almost everday. I ate fast food for almost every meal. So I no longer eat candy everyday, I make small changes to move and I eat fast food maybe once or twice a month and I make better choices. If I had gotten the bypass I would have relied on it and gotten really skinny while keeping my bad habits. Instead I chose this route and slowly, just like my weight, my bad habits have dropped off. Your daughter must make this choice for herself, though encourage her. I didn't realize how bad my situation was until I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, PCOS and Trigeminal Neuralgia in one year. I also ballooned and topped out at 267lbs at 5'4". I also didn't really "try and fail". As I was always about 40lbs overweight but as I said, I ballooned when I went hypothyroid. But because of my health problems and my family history I was approved. Honestly I probably wasn't mentally ready either but after surgery that went away quickly. I'd be glad to help you if you have any other questions, you can PM me.

    Lapband your first surgery ever?

I was really afraid since this was my first surgery too. And I've never really been in a lot of pain before so I had no clue if I had a high pain tolerance. Everyone at the hospital was super nice about it though and it was quick. I woke up easily, was walking more than they suggested and was out about 2 or 3 hours later. The first week or two was hell for me only because I am a side sleeper so sleeping on my back caused me pain and I didn't sleep well...other than some abdominal discomfort while getting up from laying or sitting position it was great. I'm glad I didn't chicken out because knowing now that it was so easy I would have felt like an idiot lol

Anyone junking out to keep the secret?

well I understand the feeling guilty part...until my second fill it was horrible, I'd almost started giving up on the band because I was hungry all the time. And honestly I think it's hard to give advice to a girl. It's more socially acceptable for a girl to eat like a bird but you always hear things like "the manly {grotesquely fatty food item here}" My brother has always had a problem with his weight and he was in sports in high school but he was the big guy...and so they'd have him chug drinks, eat a bunch, that's how he fit in I guess...But I agree with a lot of people here, either let them know what's up or tell them to just shut up, though it sounds like you were on a business trip, with co-workers so not exactly the same as "Friends". Anyway I know this was posted 3 or 4 months back but..

    Average age of a Bandster?

I think it really depends on the person. I am young, I had the surgery when I was 18. I started reading about it on May 27, 2008 and had the band by July 29, 2008...I knew it was right for me and I am pleased with my (slow) progress...I also have PCOS and hypothyroidism so I am going pretty slow but I'm thankful for it none the less and going this slow I"ve also been able to change my habits slowly...so I hope they last long term. I had a mother who had the bypass in her 40's after heart surgery so I really didn't think it was impossible for anyone. Just takes a change of thought and habits is all.
  11. wow...k so I"m at 8cc's in a 10cc band and the first two days I would get a lil faint feeling of acid after I ate...now I'm acid-free and I'm eatting pretty small portions...it just feels weird that I am so high in fills...everyone else seems to get to their sweet spot with much less...is it possible to have a really small stomach? (I have had doctors comment on other parts of my anatomy as being pretty small/tiny) and my doc only uses the 10cc band on everyone, no matter their size.

Can my body really become a small size?

wow do I know how this is...I developed when I was like 7...so when I was 9 years old I was 4'11" and 145 lbs.....so I really don't expect to get small, and don't know if I will. I'm going to have a hard time wrapping my mind around anything less than a 12 or 14. At my heaviest I was 5'4" and 267 , size 22...now I'm 204-206ish and I'm in 14/16's...it's really strange now. Weird mental problem to have...but I totally know how you all feel.

    Stomach acid

I just got a fill, now at 8cc in a 10cc band. Little pissed I said I wanted a .5cc fill and the doc put in 1cc and then lectured me about filling the band too tight. He's dumb. Anyway now every once in awhile after I eat I get a little bit of acid. Just ever so slight but it's the first time I've had acid since having the band and it doesn't seem to come up in my throat like pre-band. Should I still be worried, especially if it only happens once in awhile...or do I need an unfill?
  14. blackcherry2002

    Stomach acid

well I've just never been this tight before. I've had restriction but I've never had to worry about chugging water/drink or chewing slow/small bites...so maybe that's all it is...and usually I do tend to be tight right away and then get looser. I just don't want my doctor to do an unfill and either take away a full cc or more out just to be a dick. I told him I wanted .5cc my 3rd fill and he gave me 2 and then this time I asked for .5 cc again and got 1cc. urggggg...(and he also was saying that it's all my fault that I plateu at times and that I just get lazy) My habits aren't the best but they are consistent and I still plateau...and I have PCOS and hypothyroidism so I lose a bit slower than most...urg...douche.

    PB, vomit or just pain?

Well I saw the poll on another post that asks how often people PB/vomit. And I guess it happens quite often. I have thrown up twice since being banded, the first time I was sick the second time I guess I couldn't tolerate rice. However usually when I overeat I just get really bad pain for 15 minutes as I wait for it to make its way down. Anyone just get pain and uncomfortable instead of PB/vomiting? Maybe I'm not at a sweet spot and I can just eat a lot more and maybe that's why I don't (though it's good, since I know vomiting with band is bad). But am I the only one who doesn't have to eat slow? I usually eat my meal at the same speed I always did, takes about 5-15 minutes. Or am I just not full enough?
  16. blackcherry2002

    PB, vomit or just pain?

well I agree with you. And I wouldn't want to PB daily. I only get that chest pain maybe twice a week at most and that's enough for me. I just feel like maybe those people are tighter than I am and they seem to be losing faster than I am so...it's just so weird figuring out how I SHOULD be eating with the band because my doc is a lil warped lol. He's a big bypass guy so everytime I go in he seems angry I'm losing slow and does really agressive fills. And once I told him that I was eatting too much still and he's like...well you should be measuring everything out...I'm like...uh no. I didn't get this so I could be a freak eater and carry around measuring cups with me. I listen to my body and stop when I'm full which I never did before and that's why I'm thankful for the band...Urg that turned into a rant.

    PB, vomit or just pain?

Well I guess. It just seems then that I've never PB'd before. I am going in Monday for another fill, though I hope it's only a small one because I do have really good restriction as it is. It just seems weird that with good restriction I have never PB'd though I can still eat bread, rice, etc. I just stay away from it. But I still have the ability to eat it. Finding the sweet spot, and knowing what good restriction is is soooo hard to understand/know/get to. Because our doctors never really tell us what it exactly is like, because they've never been there! ugh. lol
  18. wow...that is totally weird considering you are from Virginia lol. I've been there once? lol I used to live in Fort Meade, Maryland.

  19. Not going to lie I love looking at your progress and it makes me sad you haven't posted any new pics lol. Totally sound like a creeper but it gives me motivation (I am an incredibly slow loser)

  20. I'm banded (2 weeks ago lol) and I've read a lot of people in their early 30's to 40's complaining about having problems losing the weight or just having reallly slow weightloss. I was just wondering if any of you young people have had a pretty easy time? I'm willing to work out and eat right but I'm just hoping that that is enough and I won't be let down by this. Also I'm really hoping to drop ALL of my weight not just 40% like my doctor told me I would...
  21. K so far i am down about 62 lbs. I went from about a size 22 to now...um 16/18... Anyway today just really got on my nerves. One: I've been losing slowly. my bandiversary is end of next month. Two: My 18's are falllling off of me. So I was super excited that I was probably in a 16. Tried on the same brand, same cut just a size smaller and they were skin-tight, barely on, barely covering my a**. The shorts in a 16 fit...however I have front cellulite/saggy leg? I'm just so disappointed because I'm 19 and this is pretty much the best my body is going to get...even as a child I spent 7 YEARS not wearing shorts or tank tops because I was too chunky probably from ages 7-14. I'm tired of hiding under bags all the time.

Losing weight, still hate my body.

Lol...no I wish. In fact my upper body is just as large...I am a 36G lol I am an hourglass shape, but that doesn't help. I'm a 42-31-43 right now. I just have very large thighs. I'm built very stocky, not like an attractive hour glass lol...
  23. blackcherry2002

Losing weight, still hate my body.

well I can't even find you guys a picture of what my thighs look like though..see it's a combination of saggy skin/cellulite...I think...and my legs are very short and very thick...so it's just an all around lose/lose situation. My thighs are massive, currently about 2 inches smaller than my waist....so yeah...I'm just frustrated because I just can never find anything that fits right...even after losing d*mn near 70 lbs...
  24. blackcherry2002

Losing weight, still hate my body.

well my skin has been ruined by the fact that...Despite going through puberty early and quickly I never had strech marks. I was just always about 20-30 lbs overweight though...And then about 2 years ago I started rapidly gaining..about 90lbs+ in 7 months...I have now been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and PCOS so...yay! I have strech marks on my stomach, hips, back, arms, and in my knee pits...and it's also probably going to cause me to have a lot of sagging skin...oh what 2 years can do to your body...
  25. blackcherry2002

    When is it enough restriction?

K so I haven't been losing the most, but I also haven't been eating the best, though the amount seems a little much to me. How much are you guys able to eat? I'm able to eat a full meal in about 10 minutes and it's probably a 1/2 cup full. I get a little hungry after an hour. I would ask my doctor but I'm afraid he'll be too aggressive...as he puts in 2 to 3 cc's at a time. I'm at 7cc in an 10cc VG band. I think I'm pretty close but...I'd like some advice on this...
