Think this is ok to eat?

well I'm assuming my doctor knows what he's doing, he was awarded the bariatric center of excellence award, operated on my mom, and has done over 1500 bariatric surgeries. My instructions were....one week clear liquid, one week full liquid/pureed food, one week dental soft, two weeks digestive soft/no grains etc., then I can go on a regular diet. I've already had a biscuit or two and tolerate them well. I had my tuna sandwiches and no sliming or pbing just a full feeling. And I did take small bites/chewed well.

    Teens & Lap Band Surgery

thanks for posting. It's on in an hour and a half here where I am lol...
  3. So I'm not really hungry but I'm getting cravings. I was banded July 29th and the first week was great. Now I'm able to get more liquids down and I'm eating popsicles and fudgebars like 3 at a sitting....and I'm drinking tons of (sugar free) juice. I am eating mashed potatoes and gravy now that I'm in the pureed and full liquid stage. I did have a biscuit last night:( it was soft and I chewed well and moistened it.) It went down alright and I don't plan on having another for another week. I think i did it mainly because...I'm a lil "plugged" if you catch my drift. And I hate having to take pills for everything so I was just trying to see if it would work itself out. I'm also at the end of my lady friend and I thought I would drop a lil Water weight after I was done, and now that I'm consuming more than 200 calories a day(that's what I did for the first week, and I trrrrriiied to get my calories in) I've gained 4 pounds back!!! I know to stay patient but it doesn't make sense. I'm getting about 500-800 calories a day, enough to jumpstart my metabolism and I'm walking around more and doing chores around the apartment, etc. Oh yeah sneezing hurts a TON!!! :cursing::smile2:
  4. I think it's so sad that people make such vast stereotypes. Thinking we are lazy or stupid. Or that we have no emotions(and that what they say doesn't hurt.) I just want to say that I'm so happy for those of you out there that have found support and love and understanding from spouses and family. It's sad but this forum is shedding light on how ignorant some of our families are. (At least mine.)

    Marijuana Use After Surgery

Yeah a lot of people just haven't smoked. Probably out of fear from misinformation. Anyway, I've actually heard that because of the deflammatory effects of marijuana it can help with asthma, which is common when exercise-induced, at least in my case. Marijuana is actually pretty healthy. It has its side effects, just like every other FDA approved medication that everyone is taking. It has far too many positives to be ignored as a legitimate form of medication and/or recreation.
  6. Ok, so I had started writing a response to that. And I just really can't. I know too many people like you and it's just hard because you know no reason. So I'm going to leave it at this.
  7. I think to some degree you can "cheat". I stuck to clear liquids until day 6 or 7 and then tried pureed and full liquids. I think in that case it's ok because although a thicker liquid...it is still a liquid. And I only skipped one or two days ahead. I would however...not eat any solid foods yet. None...atleast not until week 3 or 4...which is what my doctor states. And he's at a bariatric center of excellence. Also always take in small, tiny amounts and slowly to see how you're body will react..still eating solids is probably a big no-no right now.

    driving for work?

Ok so I'm a pizza delievery driver and I don't know when to go back to work. I'm still sore getting up and down, and for work I'd have to be getting up and down and out of the car every 5 min or so and lots of walking up 3-5 flights of stairs because there are a lot of apartments in the area. So is one week still way too soon? i'm thinking so...

    driving for work?

well it's just a lot of running around so i don't know. And I figure if I just allow myself just a few more days to heal up, in the long run it will be better...just in case I could accidently move something or tear something... As far as working half-days, even then it would be crazy...I'd probably be working 5 hours and that's a lot of getting in and out of the car...

    Teens & Lap Band Surgery

well if my input has anything to with it lol...I'm 18 and was banded 4 days ago. Honeslty, had I been younger, my parents(who are verrrrry supportive right now) would have allowed me to go along with the surgery. However, insurance approval was important to me, say if anything went wrong... But I'm glad I got the surgery. I'm at a bmi of 43 so, I def. was overweight enough to be dangerous. But even at 18, my joints were hurting, my chest is very large and is causing back pain, I've got high blood pressure and cholesterol. And the main reason : My family History. My mom alone has had : Hodgkin's disease, a heart attack at 40, a heart valve replaced, a defibulator/Pacemaker combo at the age of 46, 6-heart bypasses, among other things. So I did this for health reasons and I think the less damage a teen can do to their body the better, and hopefully by getting healthier younger...it will become a way of life that will lead me to a LONG life.

    Is this normal?

I'm like 4 days post op(Had surgery July 29th)....7 days on liquids...and I'm just not hungry. I'm mind hungry tho and I'm taking my vitamins/protein shakes...but I'm wondering if I'd be able to step it up and go into my soft foods...I'm thinking about making chicken and veggies and then blending them together in a really thin gravy I can put on mashed potatoes so I'm getting some kind of nutrients. And I'm not sure if I have restriction because...I am just not hungry at all...all I had yesterday was 6 oz. water, 8 oz apple juice, and 3 werthers hard candies. And I barely noticed. I'm looking forward to trying milk...as I'm worried about my calcium intake as well...I have tried pudding and yogurt and both have gone down well...

    Tricare

from the time my dr's office sent everything out until i got the call from tricare...about 4 days. the whole process itself took....about a month and a half. it went by very quickly.

You know you are a bandster when....

    * when after all day you've only had water and an apple juice...you wonder if the hard candy in your mouth is going to make you gain weight... i'm a new bander and still on liquids:(

    Back Pain

I also have the same problem. I am day 3 post-op and I am sleeping on my couch because it gives my back more support. I just couldn't get comfortable on the bed. The first night I reallllly hurt my neck and back from sleeping the way I did, plus I have this theory it might be due to the fact I've been on all liquids...as my other muscles hurt and I was thinking maybe I wasn't getting enough protein. I had my first protein shake, post-op, today and it went down great and I think it's actually helped with some of my muscle pains.
  18. blackcherry2002

    scared post-op

Ok is it normal, that now that I have the band...I'm worried that something will go wrong/I won't lose the weight/I'll need another surgery....I'm scared and i"m only one day post-op:(
  19. I'm starting to get really nervous. And I've never had surgery before.
  20. blackcherry2002

i have 21 hours, 50 minutes until my surgery.

I made it through everyone! my surgery was at like 10:45am and I got out at 5pm. A little sore from where they attached the port to the muscle but..amazingly no gas pain...only an occasional burp. Man am I lucky *knock on wood* I'm the biggest wuss ever and I did it. And according to the hospital bed scale...I've lost 15 lbs in 4 days. A lot of water weight but...hey...a pound is a pound. Good luck to everyone.

i have 21 hours, 50 minutes until my surgery.

ok everyone...it's 36 min until I go into the hospital....it's 4:24am and I'm tired....and starting to get nervous/excited. But it hasn't sunk in. I'm sure it's just one of those things where I just have to hold my breathe and take the leap....sooo...here we go...
  22. blackcherry2002

i have 21 hours, 50 minutes until my surgery.

haha GonBHealthy....I had that same vision of flailing around! lol I'm just kind of a wuss. but...i'm sure I'll be ok. Amazingly I'm on day 3 of clear liquids and i'm a lil grumpy, a lil out of it, but I'm not even hungry. Is that weird? I''m completely satisfied with a cup of chicken broth. lol well...yeah i'm now at 11 hours and 52 min. lol
  23. K so I have like 3 days (july 29th) till my surgery. I'm just wondering if I will be able to drink my protein shake (made with water) during the 3 days of my clear liquids before my surgery...?
  24. I just had to stick to a 1500 cal diet, and not gain any weight before surgery. Which I haven't. And I'm sticking to everything clear, I just wanted to know if it would be alright to include my protein shake powder mixed with water...would be ok. I am supposed to be on this clear liquid diet for 2 days, but I added an extra day just for safe measure.
