jason2483 got a reaction from Slownstedy in VSG cramping after purees, otherwise I'm a bottomless pit for fluids
Thanks! I just needed to hear from some others that it is mostly normal. Now I'm cruising along with food....just can't handle those Calcium pills!

Yes, this is all typical and normal. Liquids and slider foods don't stay long enough to trigger your fullness hormones and this close to surgery our fullness indicator really isn't working. You have to use restriction to figure out where you're at.

Take your time moving to the next phase we all are different, Just because they say 2 weeks your body is the time decider. Go with lighter and less. Just take a little at a time over 30 min. If you are cramped or does that mean you are full stop.
This is a pain in the ass to figure out, how much you can handle and how fast took me a long time. No reason to be uncomfortable so let your body tell you.

jason2483 got a reaction from Shawna Rene in Has anyone chewed and spit out food during liquid phase?
The day before surgery my wife baked homemade bread. It was torture! I chewed some up and spit it out. I've done it a few times post-op too. Brownies! Seriously, as long as you understand the misery that accompanies swallowing it, I don't see a problem doing it on occasion. Careful with the juices from it though!

I was moved to purees end of week 2. I noticed that my stomach cramps at anything not liquid. After 10-15 minutes of cramping, it stops and I just feel full for an hour (and much happier). Is this typical? Doesn't matter what the puree is! I have an extremely difficult time burping and I think air may play a role here.

Second, I can drink liquids without ever getting full. 8-10 oz an hour...maybe even more. I definitely get full on 3oz puree, but Water or Protein Drink is simply this bottomless pit with no resistance. I accidentally gulped water after a walk out of habit, braced for the overflow, and found it went right on through anyway. Also typical?

actually, the only pain I really had from surgery was in my abs when I was trying to switch position (e.g. lying down to standing). So it might be a challenge getting up, but you should still be able to do it. Maybe have some "props" nearby to help.... (edited to add that if you're two weeks out, that pain may be gone by then....I think I only had it the first few days)

THIS! I had lap gastric bypass and it was using my abs and core that hurt, but really only for the first week and a half or so. Log rolling to get out of bed helped.

Use a firm, small pillow to hold against your belly when you get out of bed. helps a lot.

I actually found being in a low bed or chair was better for me in the first week or so. I would "roll" out of them onto my hands and knees onto the floor and get up. This way I was using my limbs instead of my sore abs. Getting into them I'd just do the opposite with the help of a sturdy low stool to put my hand(s) on.

I was free of major pain after 3 days but still have to be careful bending over or carrying heavy things even shopping

Are u having laparoscopic or incision? If its laparoscopic, I think you'll be ok. If it's a concern or bother first couple of days, maybe sleep on couch or recliner.
