    A new lease on life...

Me too. I live near Klein HS. After my 4th I need to renew my lease on life. We went to a 4th Party/Fireworks extravaganza at some friends. My parents kept our little man so we pretended we were young again and I drank a vineyard. I nibbled a bit too much and ate dessert. I took some liquid tylenol and drank some coffee this morning for the sore head/sinusitis and not long after ending up with the heaves, guess my stomach was protesting at the abuse. 35 going on 15 me thinks! So back to healthy living. I can tell I got off the wagon because I am craving chocolate.

    A new lease on life...

Wow I am having the opposite problem! I have restriction still so have to be careful but can still manage to eat plenty o calories and am having to report to things like 10 calorie popscicles and Jello to keep away 'mind munchies'. I would recommend things you can drink like smoothies/protein shakes, well chewed low fat cheese strings, and cottage cheese w/shredded pineapple. I am focused on getting enough Calcium, Protein, and potassium so end up drinking alot of calories since meat is a bit much right now. BTW, Triser I hope I wasn't a debbie downer for you. You are totally kicking ass and taking names with your workout routine! You inspired me to get my big bum back on the elliptical today!! So thanks  PS, what part of Houston are you in?

    Post Surgery check in here

Not at all. Or if you are I am too! Only close to three weeks on did I not feel ANYTHING. Even last weekend I felt a bit of a pull around the port when doing housework. I finally got to the point of no serious pain about 5 days afterwards. I finished to liquid vicodin when people were saying they didn't take it at all! Everyone is different. Some say they feel like they did a bunch of sit up, others, like me, felt like they were punched repeatedly in the stomach and then stabbed with several swords. And I am the woman who didn't think a c-section was that bad!!

    2 days from Surgery

Sounds like you are doing well, just stick to it. Compared to some of my pre-op sins (my bday was a week before my surgery, cake & wine were consumed) you're doing great. Just give it your all in the next two days. Good luck!

    A new lease on life...

Hi Triser What about canned chicken instead? It's much nicer than tuna. How are you functioning on only 500-600 calories though? Honestly I don't see how you can keep that up before your body decides it's starving and has to hold onto everything and eat up muscle. I was under the impression we should be getting around 1200 calories a day. If I get less than 1500 I am happy. When I was on Jenny Craig I lost consistently on 1500 calories daily. I just don't want you to crash and/or get frustrated because you're not losing. I understand the new lease on life though. Even with a small % of the weight I need to lose off I feel so much better!! Keep up the good work though!

    Wii Fit

I wish you could wear shoes on it. I messed up my arch the last time I did do the jogging part. So I need to put shoes on for that. I take this as the inspiration I need to do it this evening.
  7. I had my surgery June 13th and have been taking my tablets successfully w/o crushing. Two can be crushed (anti-d 1 & bp med), one can't, antidepressant 2, but it couldn't cope with the taste and just gave it a go. Doc said if I couldn't handle I would know because I would throw up. I don't take them all at the same time. I take one before shower, one after, and one after I have done hair/make-up and got dressed. Will this change after I get fills?

    any suggestions for the nausea?

Mine was so bad I had to take Zofran. What made it worse was when I got hungry so I made sure to keep a little bit of food in my stomach at all times. Saltines were good, also, strangely, fit newtons. I threw up so much I could eat anything I wanted! It was horrible but there was a sick comfort in being able to eat ice cream without guilt because if my zofran had worn off there was a 99% chance it was coming back up. Still I was afraid to eat but so starved I couldn't stop myself.

    Aching legs

Hi Everyone So the last few days my calves are aching like crazy. I had hell sleeping last night. I tossed and turned all night. Anyone else or am I just lucky enough to aquire another stupid condition - Restless Leg Syndrome. Don't think it's that though because I have it all day too. Thinking it might be low potassium. It's hard to get it all in and restrict calories too.

    Angry Rant, grrrrrr!

It is so refreshing to read this from people who understand!! OK so it sucks for all of us but at least we're not alone!! I hate flying and one of the big fears is the seatbelt. Last time I flew I decided *&^% if I need an extension oh well I will ask for one. Luckily Air France is roomier than other airlines. So we're heading on the trip of a lifetime for a family wedding and I am freaked out about how fat I am! So sad. But..... we will all be better nicer people even when we're thin. I know we will be because growing up the fat girls has made us nice caring funny people with good personalities dammit!! I did have an experience of the other side when I was thin. I was on a long haul fly when I was thin with a guy next to me that was taking up half my seat also. And I said to myself - that used to be me, if I have to share my seat with him I will because he must already feel self conscious enough. I smiled at him and told him not to worry and to stretch out. And I meant him. In the end, the attendant moved him to another seat. But not because I asked. My therapist said a big thing for us to work on is being able to shed our 'fat girl' image when we're thin. We've focussed on it so long and let it define us. We won't be that anymore and will have to deal with other issues. But we can do it!! I am afraid to look for a new job because I am fat. Having my surgery and being on the road has given me new confidence to network. OK I could rant all day, but let me just say how much we all rock. Look what we have done - what an achievement to say TO HELL WITH THIS and go through major surgery to achieve our goals. That takes some pretty major guts! So hurrah for us

    Severe shoulder pain

I was banded on the 13th and still have a bit of shoulder pain on my left side. It gets worse when I drive. Although it could be completely unrelated. I have odd aches and pains and sometimes wonder if there is something else going on. Or it could just be from lifting an almost two year old all over the place.

Jazzy Junes First Fill Line up

Greyhoundmom thanks for the tip. I am going to try that Papaya extract. Is it easy to get? BTW, are you a greyhound mom? The greyt part in my name is because I have greyhound. Four of them in fact. My goal is to someday look like my dogs - lean and thin  OK so I can never be tall but maybe someday skinny and graceful looking!
  13. OK so moron moment last night. Woke up around 1am. Went downstairs and got something to drink. Was a little peckish so grabbed a few tortilla chips not thinking. About the third one went down like broken glass and the pain was horrible because I couldn't do anything about it. I didn't throw up or anything but it was a sick feeling. I then ate popscicle to try to wash it down and sooth my scraped stomach. I have been feeling great since Sunday and have a real spring in my step so I forgot anything was even done! So I am proud of myself for giving up sodas and for sticking to the diet but still feel stupid for finding something so hard and scrapey to swallow. I doubt I did any real damage, I have my post-op tomorrow so I'll come clean. In other news a couple of my incision are a bit puffy so I called and they said if they got worse to come in today but they seem ok so I will just wait until tomorrow. So the point of my email is to don't get to feeling so well you forget we're still healing!

Jazzy Junes First Fill Line up

Strike up the band I am having the same pain and I think it might be going back to work and sitting in a chair all day with gravity and blubber taking their toll on me! Oh and yeah and lifting my not so little monster up a couple of times probably didn't help. I went to the docs today and they weren't worried. My first fill is 7/29. Hoping I don't get too hungry by then, but at least I won't be so restricted so I can eat things that help keep me filled up.

    Dating after Lapband

I would agree with the second poster. If you're comfortable telling him about it then do. If not, then why not? Honestly most guys aren't going to care as long as you can talk about something else and don't spend your dates whining about being fat. As for the scars, I doubt he'll notice that amongst everything else going on if you get intimate If he were to say anything like 'what's up with the scars/ extra skin thing' and was a jerk about it then kick him on down the road! I met my husband when I was heavy. He has seen me heavy, he has seen me thin and he doesn't really care. He grabs my bottom if he's behind me on the stairs whether I am 165 or 265 and that's how the right guy for you should be

    Aching legs

Hmmmm.... I do drink water like crazy and there is no swelling. But what I will try is the V8. I have always eaten plenty of fruit and veg but between calorie restriction and being on mushies I might not be getting enough so will see if that helps. I took some potassium suppluments with dinner and it isn't as bad. Up now since I always wake up peckish at 2am so having jello and cool whip.

    Aching legs

I was banded on the 13th. Last week I went out and walked around the stores 3-4 times (TOO HOT OUTSIDE!) and today I went for a walk around the building and up and down the stairs a few times. Walking never bothers me. I am going to get up and do the elliptical in the morning to see if some real bloodflow helps, doctors release be damned! It's constant and pain killers aren't doing the job unfortunately.
  20. I take three scrips daily plus the occasional pain pill. This is how I do it. The one that is extended release I take first thing with plenty of Water. The other two I break up into smaller pieces and take through the day. I have to admit though that sometimes I just throw two tylenol down and swallow. Liquid tylenol is so expensive it's a real rip so I am just taking my chances. The medicine that almost literally saved my life after very bad PPD is extended release. After getting no where with my pharmacist and the manufacturer the doc told me I could try it four days post op. When I pushed further I was told to 'go ahead and try it. If you throw it up you know you can tolerate it.' It was fine.
  21. What I had for dinner Friday night. I put some refried Beans, salsa, 2 pieces of chicken, and 5 tortilla chips in the food processor. When it was done I topped it with a sprinkle of cheese, sour cream and avocado. Tiny tiny portions of course. What did I can this creation? Nachos! For lunch today I had a small potato with milk, sprinkle of cheese & natural yogurt. It was wonderful to have just that and feel full.

10 Day Post Op/ Woke up weak and exhausted

one more thing to add. This is for the long haul my friends so let's not burn ourselves out. I am itcing to get back to working out since I am feeling so much better having lost around 4 bags of sugar (4x5lbs=20) but don't want to hurt myself. I started working out two weeks after my c-section and suspect I might have made the scar tissue worse than it needed to be (found this out in physical therapy when PT was doing maniupulations and I could feel my insides tearing and she said this is scar tissue). So this time I am trying to be smart about it.

    Caffiene???

I really do wish they would tell you the difference between 'this is going make your stomach bleed or *list terrible consequence here*' and 'it won't hurt you but xy&z isn't really healthy or has empty calories in it so moderation is expected.'

10 Day Post Op/ Woke up weak and exhausted

You know one thing I question is the low calorie intake everyone seems to be advised to be on. At some point our bodies are going to go into starvation mode and stop losing weight. At the moment I am eating per my restrictions but not worrying about calories. If you're working out and only getting 600 calories a day, no wonder you feel like garbage. Someone who hadn't had surgery would feel like garbage. I am waiting another little while before I start working out again and give myself time to heal. We need to be gentle on ourselves. Learn a lesson from me. Last time I lost 100 pounds I used to abuse myself at the gym no matter how I felt. I would run through pain, cycle and spin on an aching knee, I just did it solely focused on super fit thin. eventually my body and spirit burnt out and back came on the weight. I now have arthritis in one spot in my lower back and chronic hip pain. My friend who got the lap band last summer had to work on getting her calorie intake UP at one point after reaching a plateau. Up from 800 to around 1200-1500. Just my pespective.

    Alcohol ?

I am very grateful to see the video I must say. That will give me this push I need to stay off of ALL carbonation. I wish I could get a doc to be honest about it more than just 'alcohol is empty calories.' The counselor at my docs practice did say lap band and bypass people look like hell when they get a lot of calories from alcohol. Your hair and skin go to hell. Which is why I don't drink 7 days a week to start with, that and general health, but I do want a night out every now and again with a few margaritas. I plan to wait two more weeks and see how a glass of wine goes down.
