am3rs got a reaction from Krimsonbutterflies in Aversion to smells
I had my bypass 6 days ago and a surprise hernia repair. I’m healing nicely but have some constant low-level nausea. Now things like scented candles, my Shampoo, dryer sheets, etc. are bothering me. I also get these phantom smells - where’s that cinnamon coming from?? It’s weird! Anyone relate?

am3rs got a reaction from FluffyChix in What if it doesn't work?
My rny is scheduled for Jan. 6. I'm as ready as I can be, but I have this gnawing fear that I will go through all of this and it just won't work. I've been a yo-yo dieter for so long that my last couple of attempts had zero weight loss - my body was so used to me trying to restrict that it just held onto the weight. Is this an irrational fear?

am3rs reacted to CapyCapybara in BED Treatment Pre-Surgery
I’m a binger and then restricter and wash and repeat. I’ve been this way all my life. Never had problems with weight until after kids. I’ve been seeing my psych - the one my surgeon had us see for eval. It seems to help but I’m worried long term myself. She assured me that the sleeve will really help me with this. She had WLS years ago and said it helped tremendously with her own eating disorder- she use to eat a ton when no one was around and hide all evidence. So, I have some faith. I don’t have much imput, as I’m in around the same phase as you in WLS but I’m here if you ever need to talk.

Not before surgery but read my long post on how i Screwed up - You are taking the right approach the surgery is a tool the head games are a nightmare - One thing i will say is after the surgery your desire to eat and follow food will diminish - So the tool does help in this matter

am3rs got a reaction from FluffyChix in BED Treatment Pre-Surgery
I’m scheduled for surgery in Jan 2020. My biggest fear is gaining the weight back. My therapist recommended I get treatment for my BED at a clinic, and I’m about 2 weeks into my intensive outpatient program. It’s hard, but I see the value. The hardest part has been accepting that my disordered eating is something that requires treatment, not just a lack of willpower and character. Has anyone else had treatment prior to surgery? After? How does life look when you get back to normalized eating? I’m also happy to answer any questions if anyone is considering treatment.
