  1. No problem  I'll be glad to share the diet my surgeon had me on, but it changes from one surgeon to the next. I wouldn't see why he wouldn't be okay with you maybe doing it from now until your surgery. If you stick to it, the pounds will fall off. Let me know what you find out!!

  2. Welcome to the board! I'm in Richmond and was banded this past June! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Where are you having your surgery? And just so you know, I didn't find the two week pre-op terrible. Would it be my choice for ever, absolutely not, did it work...sure did :whatchutalkingabout Good luck!!

  3. I had my first fill day...wish it had gone as easy as everyone elses. I was so nervous in the waiting room (more so than the day I had the surgery...doesn't make sense). I got back in the room, she stuck me (hurt a little, not too bad though) and then I almost passed out. Got all tingly, room spinning. I really think it was the whole contraption, but it wasn't good. They were so sweet, sat me down, told me it's happened before (I was pretty embarassed), got me a wet rag and then we finished. I drank some apple juice and then felt great. I'm hoping fill 2 will be better. They were really happy with my weight loss. It's lagged a little in the last week, so I'm hoping this will be a good jump start

  4. Hi!

I go for my very first fill this wednesday and I have a question about my diet BEFORE the fill. I don't remember my doctor saying anything, should I eat like I am now before the fill or should I be on liquids before I get it? If I have something in my stomach, will it effect the band when they fill it? My appt is after lunch so I just wanted to see how all that is going to work.

    Thanks for any insight!

    Rachel

I was just getting on to post the same question. My first fill is Thursday (ahhh...:wink2:...quite nervous) and I didn't know what to eat before. I may call tomorrow to find out what they say. I know I'm on liquids for 24 hours, then mushies for 48. Thanks for the insight everyone!

  5. I flew last week to Chicago. Normally when it comes to buckling the seat belt, I pull and scoot, and pull and stretch, and then I'm completely uncomfortable the whole trip feeling as though all circulation is being cut off to my mid section. I got on the plane last week, fully expecting to have the same experience. Nope, it just buckled, I honestly, unbuckled it and rebuckled it to make sure it really had happened...now that my friends, was one heck of an exciting moment ;)

  6. First of all... you will still be able to go out to eat with your husband! Also remember, going out to eat is about more than just the food (although that's part of it too). It's about the atmosphere, the person or people you're with, the ambiance, the service, the getting away from the house and not cooking.

A lot of us around here are emotional eaters and it's a big part of the recovery we go through after we get our bands. There's no denying it's a struggle of a journey sometimes, and that's just part of what you buy into when you get banded. But that journey is what will help you discover who you are, why you do the things you do, and get control over it... and become a healthier you. No, it won't necessarily prevent you from ever over-eating again but you will do it a lot less and when you do, you'll get right back on track a whole lot faster than you probably do now.

The band is just a physical thing but for many of us it also seems to work on our minds. I find that I just can't eat some of the stuff I used to... not because my stomach won't handle it, but because my head won't. That doesn't stop me from spending time mentally going down the list of foods I could eat, trying to find one that I can indulge in.... but it's the strangest thing, my mind just keeps rejecting one item after another.

What you're feeling is a very normal part of this journey. Jump in, you will tread Water for awhile and eventually you will be swimming laps. Ok I know that's a corny analogy but it really is true. It will have you headed towards a much healthier and happier place.

Ditto to everything said above. I couldn't have said it better myself. I can honestly say I feel like I have a different relationship with food now. I'm only a month out, but things are different. I use to be eating one meal and planning the other. I don't do that anymore. I really think all the chewing allows you to really enjoy your food. I used to eat so fast. Now it takes me about 20-30 minutes to eat. That is a complete WOW factor for me. Good luck and know this is a great place to come with questions, concerns, fears, etc. I know I couldn't have made it without it ;)

  7. Hi all, I live in Glen Allen, VA and am being banded this Thurs.(the 17th). I am getting very excited! I am self-pay b/c my BMI is 35 and it would be a cold day in you know where before insurance would pay. I have a question, if anyone is willing to answer, how much cheaper is it actually to get banded in Mexico? I've seen that many people take that route!

    thx, Nancy B.

Nancy, your surgery will be exactly 1 month after mine. I'm in Richmond and was banded on June 17th at St. Mary's. I can honestly say it is the best thing I have ever done for myself. This site has been awesome to ask questions of those pre and post surgery. Good luck!! Let us know how it goes!

  8. Ok, you guys are really starting to make me feel a little better. My first fill isn't until 2 weeks from Thursday, but I've been so worried about it. I'm not really that scared of needles, but I don't like pain (who does, I guess?!?!). Everyone saying it isn't that bad, has really helped put my mind at ease.

  9. I was banded on the 17th and am doing great. I started mushies this past Wednesday and am really enjoying them. I've lost almost 30 pounds between the pre-op diet and after surgery. I'm still a little sore (I can tell when I bend or pull a certain way that I had surgery), but am for the most part back to normal life. I go in for my post-op check up on Monday. I'm excited to hear how everyone else is doing :tt2:

  10. Hey everyone! Just thought I'd let you know that I have tried several different Protein powders and finally found one that really doesn't taste like anything :blushing: I added the Unjury unflavored to some mashed potatoes and there is NO aftertaste (who ever knew that would make me so excited?!?!). I'm really excited to finally have something to add to food to make it easier to get my protein in. Just thought I'd share. Hope everyone is doing well!!!

  11. Congrats on the eve of your new life! I was sitting in your shoes this time last week and know exactly how you are feeling. The last week hasn't been easy, but I'm finally feeling better today. Remember this is major surgery (I seemed to forget this and thought I'd be better in like 48 hours) and to allow your body time to rest and heal! Good luck! I'll be praying for you as well as all the other 24thers!!

  12. Thanks Cathy! I feel so much better today. It's amazing the difference in yesterday and today. I get to start mushies on Wednesday and I can not wait! I never thought I'd be so excited about cream of wheat and mashed potatoes  I know I still need to get my Protein in with the mushies, so I'm wondering if I still need to drink shakes (gosh I hope not :crying:). Thanks again for your help!

  13. Thanks Cathy! I really appreciate the encouragment. It just sucks that I was trying to transition to just tylenol and the pain is too bad and I am back taking percoset (sp?) a couple of times. I felt like I was moving backwards, not forwards.

I am supposed to be on Carnation Instant Breakfast and Clear Liquids (broth, Jello, etc) until Wednesday. I can't wait to have some mashed potatoes or scrambled eggs!! I'm not one to each artificially sweetened stuff, and so trying to eat it has been difficult. I've read some stuff on hear about the Protein bullets...do they have that protein after taste?? I read where someone just poured it over ice and ate it and really enjoyed it. If I could find something like that, life would probably be a tad bit easier  Thanks again for all of your help, all of your posts on this board are so encouraging!!
