    Last Meal...

This full liquids diet is serious business. Lost 4 pounds since yesterday! Thankful my doctor declared that it didn't matter how much weight I lose at this point, he will still operate. Otherwise I would be freaking out because I am just about at the lower end bmi for qualifying for surgery! I wonder if the hospital scale will match my scale.

    September 2019 🍂🍁

It is safe, for those they say to do less days. One difference is the size of livers... the 10 day diet is to help shrink the liver to get it out of the way. Those with lower BMI's don't necessarily need to shrink the liver. Sometimes it is just surgeon preference. They pump your stomach at the start of surgery, so there won't be food in there regardless. At least mine does, and I can't imagine other docs don't do it since they are cutting your stomach in half.

    September 2019 🍂🍁

We are all different. My nutritionist did a group class and she kept talking about the 10 day liquid diet (and other instructions), but then would come over and whisper to me because my plan is totally different than everyone else's plan. Basically, I was fast tracked through everything... most had 6 months of appointment requirements, I only had 3 months. They had 10 days of pre-op diet, I was initially told 3 days but then she changed it to 2 days. I am starting off with a lower BMI and they didn't want me to lose too much weight pre-op.

    FEP Blue Approval Time

I believe that is what mine said. Basically you are pre-approved for surgery. Double check with your doc office though to be sure. Mine also had a date range, the day of my scheduled surgery until one month later. My doc gave me my surgery date BEFORE it was approved, not sure all docs do that.

    4 weeks

My day 22-36 SOFT diet says 700 cals/day, all foods on pureed diet. Separate fluids from meals (30 minutes before and 30 minutes after), aim for 90 grams of protein, meal replacement protein shakes, grits, soft, moist, diced and ground protein items, fruit (without seeds), canned fruits or cooked fruits, 4-6 small meals per day, chew chew chew, 64oz water, vitamins. Maintenance starts at day 37, adding one food item at a time and 1000 calories per day with 90-100 grams of protein, meal replacement shakes, all foods on pureed diet and soft diet if needed, separate fluids from meals, 5-6 small meals per day, 3 meals with 2-3 snacks, scrambled eggs, creamy peanut butter 1 tbsp, use calorie app, 64 oz water, bariatric vitamins, chew chew chew, use baby spoon/fork/plates, each meal should be 1.5 cups or less in volume. No straw/carbonation/alcohol, no rice/bread/tortilla/pasta/popcorn, no fried foods or high fat meats, no raw fruits/dried fruit, no seeds/nuts, no celery/broccoli/corn/cabbage. I would definitely check with your own surgeon as they may have a different plan... but maybe this will help~!

Fat and Carb intake at stage 3

I haven't been given any amounts for carbs either, for any stage. But, they also want me to avoid as many as many carbs as possible. I wish I had a goal number!
  7. Just research the doc well! My doc (Tucson AZ) takes care of a lot of patients from Mexico with complications. His "complications" rate for himself is very low, but much higher when you take into account his patients from Mexico. But, there are plenty of good docs there too. Some US docs won't care for patients that had surgery in Mexico due to the higher complication rates in Mexico, some will. Again, just do your research! I personally wouldn't have surgery in Mexico myself, but I also did not have any trouble getting insurance to approve it here in the US. Others have had great success with Mexico surgeries.

    Sleeve Next Week!

I hear you! I am getting more crap from hubby and daughter than anyone else. This is important to me, and to my health... so screw them! lol

    2 week liquid diet

I do the premier protein shakes, also 30 grams of protein. Need at least 60 grams of protein per day. My nutritionist also recommended (in addition to regular whey protein isolate) to have collagen peptides to add to other foods/broths. And I bought some premier protein clear to so I can get some protein when drinking fluids. The protein shakes should be primary source in the first days post-op... the other stuff supplements other protein in the diet.

    Sept surgery people

I am September 4th. I have to be full liquids by tomorrow, I basically eat between 7am-9pm. Throughout the day I have 3 meal replacement shakes. 2 cups of tea. 3 Greek Yogurts. 2 sugar free Jellos. 2 low sodium v-8s. 2 sugar free popsicles. 1 low sodium broth. Not in that order. I have a "schedule" I follow and eat/drink 1 item per hour.

Yep, I read online that they were discontinued. I was very disappointed!
  13. Vent warning! So, yesterday I worked my last shift at work, I have the weekend and the holiday off normally, then Tuesday I am off for another doctors appointment (unrelated). Surgery is Wednesday. I am ready. A little nervous, but mostly excited and anxious to get this done. Hubby is home for his normal day off. All he is doing is giving me crap about the unnecessary surgery and how I can lose all the weight if I just diet more and walk at least 5 miles a day. He conveniently has forgotten that I gained all the weight when I hit 40 and was doing EVERYTHING RIGHT! Including also walking EVERYWHERE. He also conveniently forgets all my failed diet and exercise attempts and how my health has been steadily going down hill with the weight gain. Or how many times he has helped to sabotage me. He is TRYING to be supportive, but he is berating and mocking me at every chance he gets. I know this is his stress talking. He is so afraid of surgery and he thinks of this as an elective/unnecessary procedure. HIS surgeries have complications. Mine are always fine thus far. I see it as a necessary procedure to help me regain my health. Anyhow... he was awful this morning. I finally got angry and nearly broke down in tears. When that happened he finally got his **** together and said he is supporting me. If he wasn't supporting me he would now have gotten time off of work to help me or drive me to/from the hospital. But that doesn't change what a jerk he is being. Just so frustrated! And of course, time feels slower now that I am so close. Need to move the clock forward. I desperately want to get past the surgery so he can stop freaking out and I can start recovering!

Husband is stressing me out pre-op

Just noticed... Dr. Weiner is from my neck of the woods!

Husband is stressing me out pre-op

Thanks! It looks like I started to watch that video once before, but it lost me when it was talking about blood pressure instead of weight (not an issue for me, so I moved on). Now I watched it through... and need to find the next video lol. It is pretty good. Won't do hubby any good, but maybe my daughter.

Husband is stressing me out pre-op

Thanks. He gets this way when he is stressed out. I have known this about him for our entire 23 year marriage. He can totally be an a*****e, but I know when to just ignore him most of the time. I just don't need this right now. This is about me, not him. And you just said it: "Not the easy way out". I think he and my daughter both think I am taking the easy way out. I am just sad to be reminded that I get more support from my co-worker who has been through this than my husband/daughter. He is trying. I know he is. And I know he will take care of me in the hospital and when I get home. But I could really use their support emotionally. Anyhow, thanks for the encouragement!

    pre packed meals snacks breads

My doctor/nutritionist do not want me to ever eat any product that contains yeast. Not sure why yeast specifically, but I know they do not want me to have most breads and similar products. They also do not want me to have any rice and only limited portions of wheat pasta. I CAN however eat 6-10 whole wheat crackers, so I am using that as my "bread". I think I am going to just have to do my best to do a mostly keto"ish" diet. I also just ordered cheese crisps to substitute crackers and add a little protein in their place. Not sure how I will like those yet. Ordered a variety so maybe I can find something tasty. Pre-packaged food: I am going to do my best to avoid all processed pre-packaged food. It usually isn't very healthy for you. But, if I do need something quick and easy I am not opposed to using them occasionally. But instead of frozen meals, I will try to get some fresher versions from local delis. Haven't tried the bariatric site meals, but I did buy some bariatric soups for after surgery.

    Any September Sleevers?

I am the same day as you! Savory... I guess maybe spice up your pre-op broth? Everything else in my pre-op is a little on the sweet side.

What to bring with to the hospital

I seriously doubt I will need my inhaler, but they still want me to bring it. I will, "IF" I find it! GLASSES CLEANER! That is definitely something I need!

Has your shoe size gone down? 100+ pounds gone

Still pre-op... but last time I lost a lot of weight my shoe size went down a whole size. Definitely possible.
  24. I used Belviq while it was still under patent. I had great success with it, until I couldn't afford it anymore. Once my weight plateaued, I weaned off of it. Then my weight went back up. Tried it again later, on a few other occasions. Each time I went back to it, I had less success. Unfortunately, I could not take any other weight loss supplements. Wish I had stayed on Belviq longer. Only side effect is that it slowed my heart rate down, which for me was a good thing.

    Peanut butter?

I just bought and tried "Naked PB" in my vanilla protein shake. It was really good! Of the powdered peanut butters, I liked the nutrient contents best with this brand. Some complain about the lower salt content, but it was perfectly fine for me! I think I will use it when I want to add a little extra protein to my protein shakes or simply change the flavor. I might also use it if I make some smoothies later. Should last a long time and mixed very well.
