    Heart rate

It could be lots of things early after surgery, including pain, dehydration, fighting off potential infection and more. Keep an eye on it, but I wouldn't worry too much unless it either keeps getting higher or you have other symptoms. Monitor your temp, take pain meds as needed, and hydrate! 2. Thanks! I have counted my broth and jello and that gets me closer, but I usually don't count my protein shakes.
  3. Thanks! I did tell my doc that liquids go in pretty fast, and he was fine with that. Still, I am under my requirements for water. I did get a water bottle with time markings to help me out with tracking and encouragement. Doc was happy that I switched to this water bottle to help motivate. I think I do great with water in the first half of the day, but then the second half of the day I just really don't want to drink. I also think that my attempts at "meals" is making it worse. You know... the whole don't drink 30 minutes before/after thing. It isn't a problem at breakfast time because i get up, drink my water... wait a little bit, then drink my protein shake. But if I attempt anything even slightly more solid it slows me down. And this whole not knowing when to eat and when to stop eating thing is hard to figure out. I am allowed to eat 2-4 oz of clear, full liquids, or purees up to every 2 hours, but a 500 calorie max. I just can't tell physically when I should start/stop... and I am eating nowhere near every 2 hours! I haven't bothered to put my "food" in a log (yes I know I will need to) because If I get 2 shakes in, I don't get much else in. If I get one shake in, then I can get maybe 4 oz of broth and a couple bites of something a little more solid. Then I can't get my 2nd shake in. I KNOW I am under 500 calories at this rate! My doc starts purees at day 10. I am just slow to take to it! And no... not trying to chase the "full", but want to be sure to stop if I am full!
  4. Well, I am only 12 days out, but figured I would jump in and it might be good for me to see my starting point later! Daily Water intake C+ There are days I am getting all of my fluids in, but that is with counting protein shakes/broth/soups. I get in at least 32oz every day of actual water. Some days are better than others. I had to give up using my hydroflask that I love because it wasn't giving me feedback on where I should be... so I bought two water bottles that have time markes on them. Today is the first day with one, so hoping it helps! Daily Protein intake B The days I do 2 protein shakes I have no problem with this. The days I try to eat real protein (eggs and such since I am still pureed) instead of the second shake I don't make it. Food choice N/A I am on purees. I don't get to pick good nutritious foods quite yet! Flexibility N/A Too early to really rate Portion Control Don't know? Am I drinking too much water/protein shake/broth/soup at one time? Seems I can get in up to 4 oz fairly fast. But solid foods? Wasting a lot of my already small portions lol. If my doc doesn't have answers for me today, I see the nutritionist in a couple weeks. Mindful eating C I am trying to chew chew chew but there isn't enough food to chew to chew 2-+ times and it is hard to eat slow when there isn't much to chew? Exercise D I am still tired. I walk around the house plenty, but am not getting out of the house to walk enough. When I do walk, I am going to big stores so I can hold a shopping cart in case I get unsteady, and when I am done, I am totally wiped out. But... steadily improving. The other day I went to 2 stores just to walk. But it is too hot to just walk around my neighborhood and I can't quite get myself onto my treadmill just yet. Vitamins B I have no problems taking them, but I occasionally forget whether or not I took them. My reminders on my phone aren't doing their job lol Self image B I am a lower BMI sleever, I hate my body, but most of the time I don't worry about it too much, if you know what I mean? I just did this because I keep getting bigger and I wanted to reverse it before it gets worse. Mental Health A I am doing OK here. Though my husband thinks I was crazy to do the "elective" surgery. Oh well. I did it, he has to get over it! Relationships B No better or worse than before. Only my husband and daughter and a few close work friends know what I had done. I am sure the rumor mill has started at work. Not worrying about it. Haven't told my sons that don't live at home, I will tell them when I see them probably. I just didn't want them to A) worry needlessly or spill the beans to the rest of my extended family whom I don't want to know. We are pretty isolated from family here, so no need for people who live hundreds/thousands of miles to know anything! Self care B Doing OK, but I need to get the energy to start a workout regimen. Hoping to go back to pilates which I love, but abdomen isn't ready yet. I had gotten heavy enough that I couldn't do it for a while. Need to get a walking routine in. One that doesn't involve hanging on shopping carts (just about ready). I do think I am going to take more time off of work so I can focus on me and developing good habits before going back. I have the sick time, may as well use some of it!

    Recovery

I am on day 10. Pain has finally subsided at the incision site and I actually left my house to walk around twice today. This is huge for me! Only been leaving my house for brief walks for a couple days. Still wiped out afterwards. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    September Sleevers???

Had my surgery on 9/4. So far all is good! Today is day 10 post op, which mean the official start of puree food (yuck lol). Last night, I did try some Greek yogurt and had no trouble with eating it. Only had maybe 1.5 oz since it was half a day early and didn't want to risk feeling sick with it. I can get in about 64+ oz of fluid, but I am counting my protein shakes and broth in that, without including them I am getting at least 48oz of fluid in. I can take about 6-8 sips/gulps of water at a time. Drinking 2 protein shakes a day for 60 grams of protein. For the most part my abdomen feels fine post-op... but I do have that one spot that can feel like I have been stabbed if I move the wrong way still. But even that seems to be starting to subside now. What I haven't been doing a lot of is getting out and walking as much as I should. When I do go for my walks, I am wiped out after 15-20 minutes. Still, I am gradually improving. I actually think I am starting to feel better all around today, so maybe today is the day? I am also not having any trouble swallowing any of my smaller pills. The only liquid prescribed to me was pain medicine which surprised me, everything else I have been taken in it's normal tablet form since the day of surgery. I am down about 7 pounds since surgery, even with the initial 5 pound gain. That came off within 48 hours at most. All in all, everything is good!

    Weird things happening

I get the same way and my surgery was 9/4. I am barely taking longer walks. And when I do I am wiped out. Everyone is different. Go at your own pace. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Any September Sleevers?

Thanks! Sometimes it stinks to be a nurse, because we know too much! lol. I see the doc again next week and I will be asking for repeat labs. I am guessing my WBC count will be back to normal too... they were high, I had a slightly elevated temp for a couple days too... but back to normal for that as well. All of my labs and doctors notes are available to read in a patient portal... that is the only reason I know all of what was off in the hospital that they didn't mention to me.

    Palpitations

It is possible your electrolytes are already at an imbalance. Add some sort of electrolyte to your water and see if it helps. If not, call you doctor!

    Any September Sleevers?

Normally I would agree with you, but I didn't have dextrose in my IV. They did have me drink a lot of apple juice several hours before admission... but blood sugar was normal on admission and had no sugar afterwards. My blood sugar is usually normal no matter how much physical stress I am under. Also, my blood pressure was elevated before they started my IV. Didn't consciously "feel" stressed at the time either. Having had 3 previous c-sections which did include dextrose IV and pain... never happened before! Not really worried about either, but it was strange for me! But I do think they are probably back to normal by now. I am actually more anxious to get a repeat liver panel... those numbers were most concerning to me, by bilirubin is normally on the high side of normal or slightly above normal... it was much higher than my norm. All of my liver function tests were out of whack.

    Any September Sleevers?

I got all of my protein shakes in for the first time today. And if you include the shakes, broth, and jello... I definitely got in my fluid requirement. Most of my belly is fine now, but that main incision where they pulled the stomach out still hurts bad when I move. Sometimes I feel like someone just stabbed me. I don't feel anything at the other incision sites. Taking pain medicine 2 times a day today (one before bed and one in the middle of the day). It is funny... I have never had a problem with blood sugar, but I have a couple high blood glucose levels after surgery (in the hospital). Also noted my white blood cells count is a little elevated, along with my liver function results. I didn't see these results while I was in the hospital, but looked up lab results in my patient portal online. I am going to have to ask for a repeat of the labs when I go back to see the doc. My temp has been slightly high for me, but always under 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Oh, my blood pressure was up in the hospital too... another thing that isn't normal for me. But all in all... I feel pretty good.

    Any September Sleevers?

All the above is so true! I am currently on day 4 post-op. Gas pain has decreased a ton. I am walking. I am sipping my water. And I am sipping my protein shakes. I can easily drink an ounce or so at one time. Not eating solids yet for a couple weeks. My pain is now more centered around the main incision. Boy is that painful! But this pain is nothing compared to my 3 c-sections. I tried to take my pain medicine every 4 hours for the fist 48 hours, but now I am taking it 2-3 times a day. Definitely before I go to sleep.

    Got my DS yesterday morning

Your first couple of days, take the pain medicine as scheduled! Don't let some nurse tell you to wait if it is due. If your pain is better controlled in the first 48 hours, you will be better able to recover in that time and beyond. You can wean yourself from the pain medicine at home. But you need it now to help you get up and walk, so you can relieve that gas pain. My surgery was on Wednesday, and my pain was focused throughout my back more than my front. What I did feel in the front was pressure. I wasn't feeling any actual surgical pain yet... just that terrible gas pain. Now than I am day 4 post op... my pain is local around the area where they pulled my stomach out, The gas pain has improved a lot. My doc also prescribed flexoril which is a muscle relaxant. That has helped a ton too. And I bought chewable gas-x pills.

    Very Frequent Hiccups

I am experiencing this a little bit. For me, a couple times a day I have a couple hiccoughs then I let out a little burp and they stop. So... seems to be gas related for me. I am day four after surgery.

    Milk of magnesia ?

My doc prescribed it post op. Supposed to take it every 5 days. I am on day 4 post op... still haven't taken it, but probably will today or tomorrow. I am passing gas just fine, but haven't pooped for at least 6 days now. Not that there is much of anything in my gi tract.

    Last Meal...

Just had my last meal! Was talking to my daughter and she likened it to being on death row lmao. Tomorrow and Tuesday I am completely full liquids. Surgery Wednesday. Don't know what time though. My doctors website says 9am, but really I have to call Tuesday afternoon for the schedule. I hope I am early in the AM! Waiting is torture.
