I think most of us have slight differences in our post-op clear diet. Most of the vets have taught me that already. I mean, there are people who can have sf Jello, but it's on my "NO" list. It's just more bizarre here since you're in the post-op clear liquid stage having blended/pureed foods where there is a designated post-op puree food diet (minimum 2 weeks after surgery). So when I read that, I will say I thought you were skipping steps or ignoring them?

I'll say, people who have successfully gone through the surgery are a blessing on this forum, but if you're skeptical on just taking their word definitely ask your surgeon/team/doctor about that and the antacid/acid blocker. Like if my whole post could be me typing antacid/acid blocker 300x I would. Also, since they didn't prescribe you the antacid/acid blocks I'm curious if they have you on the appropriate daily Vitamins.

I have a Vitamin regimen that starts after my two weeks on a funnel diet, but yeah - its funny - the only mention of antacid in my binder is for occasional / discretionary usage.

i agree that the vets can be a blessing, even if they are a bit preachy!

So the idea of eating liquids and things without texture or grain is that they don't want to stimulate the gut to start "churning" and scrunching like it does when solid or semi-solid foods are introduced. When I was on full liquids I was allowed: clear fluids without sugar or caffeine, Protein Drinks, and yogurt that was low carb/low sugar and free of any fruit that was thinned down to pourable consistency (think Soup texture). I was also allowed ice pops (sf) and sf Jello.

The problem with eating pureed Soups thinned down at this stage is that even pureeing chicken will leave a sludgish texture that has grit or grain to it. And it will cause your stomach to grind too much.

So don't try to game the system. If it doesn't appear on your plan, don't do it. LOL.

You CAN make up cream Soups with Fairlife FF Milk. Strain it and slowly add in a scoop of unflavored Protein in order to up your Protein content of the meal. That would add smooth consistency, absence of texture and should help satiety by upping your protein.

And FYI, 1 pint should take you about 8 hours or more to consume at your stage. Each meal 2 hours apart and 4oz per meal approximately.

According to my surgeon, at this stage, pureed soups are okay and my meals are 6oz each, not 4. I am guessing our surgeons just define post op diets differently. Thanks for all of your responses!

Dude, there is nothing "accidental" about falling into a quart of egg drop Soup at 8 days post op. And are you supposed to be able to eat purees at 8 days? You do not want to pop a suture line. :( You gotta own mistakes to change them. ((hugs))

PPI = omeprazole (H2 acid blocker), nexium, prilosec, etc

Ah, I was not prescribed nor suggested any acid blockers.

Accidental is easy when it goes down without pain and you go down the slippery slope of watering it down (doctors instructions) and literally forgetting that you drank 4 ounces already. Also - my wife just corrected me --- PINT, not quart, whew!

As far as Purees go - pureed Soup is on my funnel diet which starts 24 hours after surgery, Unjury chicken broth + boiled chicken sounded soupy to me. I will check it out with the team tho --- I would hate it if I am somehow misunderstanding what they mean by "pureed soup"

    thank you!

Yes. It's normal. Please don't over eat at this point. Please take it slowly. Drink Water when hunger hits. It may also be stomach acid. Are you taking a PPI? Please don't advance your diet ahead of your doc's plan. You can do this!

    What's a PPI?

thanks for replying! Aside from my accidental overeating of the egg drop, I am avoiding overeating as best I can.

Funny you posted this. Yesterday my trainer was like hey you are chugging again ! I hadn’t realized I was doing it because there wasn’t pain. But omg in the beginning I could swallow only like a couple I’ve chips worth lol. I’m 7 weeks out.

Awesome! am I reading you right?! you lost 71 pounds over 7 weeks?!?!?!?!?? mom_of_AMAZING!!!!!

  6. I am 8 days post sleeve and I hunger constantly. I am getting my Protein in, and sticking (reluctantly) to liquids and puree'd foods (I threw some chicken and Unjury protein in a blender). Last night, i had some egg drop Soup and almost ate the whole quart between an early dinner and a snack a few hours later. Is it normal to be hungry?!? The egg drop was the only point where I consumed too much of something and it bothered me.

I don't know how this is possible. What are y'all doing?!?

  7. Ever since I was sleeved 8 days ago, my dreams have been insane. To the point where every. single. one. is vivid, memorable, and makes me wake up questioning life. Giant wolves, super-hero antics, and scifi undertones. I have never been a huge dreamer. Sure, I would have the occassional nightmare or wake up remembering some epic story, but never in my life have I had it happen pretty much every day in a row.

It's also to the point where the subjects of my dreams end up connecting to something that I discover a day or so later. My wife thinks I am becoming psychic. I don't really believe in that sort of stuff --- but there's definitely something different.

Am I going mad, or is "vivid, epic dreaming" a known side effect?

Wow! That sucks you had to hear all that negativity from a doctor. As for your incisions, try using some gold Dial soap with warm Water. Don’t completely soak them but wash them and immediately dry. It will help with preventing infection. Mine started healing really nicely after about 5-7 days. Hope you don’t have to deal with any more rude doctors in the future. This app really is helpful and offers various support. Good luck on your journey.

Thank you so much! I am sure that this wont be the last for many of us!

Oy vey! Takes all kinds in this world. I got WLS shamed by a nurse during one of my pre-op appts. She couldn’t believe that insurance would pay for my surgery because I wasn’t as big as she thought I should be. Funny thing is.... I didn’t ask this boor for her opinion. Best of luck to you going forward. I’m in Ny too! Long Island

Its amazing how much people suck!

  11. I am 3 days out from my sleeve and feeling pretty good. Minimal discomfort. Admittedly, flying across the country to have it done, and then returning home 2 days later has its risks associated with it, but I just had a run in with a doctor that I want to talk about.

My wife went into an urgent care clinic today to get stitches removed from an accident she had with some glassware. I took her in for it, and while I was there, I thought it would be a good opportunity to have my incisions checked out. They werent bothering me, but the largest incision's dressing did look a bit puffy and had some Fluid built up due to a shower, so I signed myself in.

Doctor entered the room, and asked what was up. After some pleasantries and medical history, and explaining what I would like her to do (check out, confirm everything looks play, re-dress), she immediately berated me.

"Did you fly across the country to save money? that was stupid, you are going to have problems"

me: "No, it was more expensive, but since I travel for a living and did not have time for the hoops that seem to come with every NY based clinic, I paid a premium for a fast track program"

"well, the fact that you had this procedure, and then flew was stupid. I am taking on a liability just seeing you now. was your surgeon even licensed?"

    ....

and then proceeded to tell me that "you're gonna have major issues. good luck seeing anyone here, no surgeon that I know of would help you if this goes sideways. You're lucky you didnt have an embolism in flight"

    ------

Not looking for any advice per se, since this isnt an open issue. Just venting. Wondering if anyone here has run into anything similar.

  12. I was sleeved 3 days ago, the pain is pretty bad when I go overboard on a sip of Water or broth. Larger sips are starting to be more tolerable, and oddly Decaf green tea was a MIRACLE for me. After not being able to get 12 ounces of water in my first day, my second day I was able to drink 24 ounces of green tea during a flight. Not bottled, just brewed and watered down.
