  1. My surgeon said just to track it.

I have an appointment next week with him

I know a lot about it - usually it is a congenital and affects women more cause of estrogen

Fact one - I didn'thave that hemangioma on my liver before surgery - radiologist said " it looks like it but I'm not sure"

Fact two - gb is "calm" - no signs of inflammation or stone movement and medications given doesn't help with the pain

So I'm thinking to ask for a CT scan to check what is really going on inside

The reason for a month wait is to give chance to "calm" down and to do a pre op tests

The pain itself isn't intense but constant and boring and it hurts more when I move more - it feels like when your muscles are in pain after a run ... It gets sharper when I move around more

I'm just worried ... don't want to go on a surgery if they aren't sure what the problem really is , you know ..

Thanks for finding time to answer 😘

  2. I can't really help with first part - regarding the open surgery.I had a tough surgery lasted almost 4 hours cause some complications.
I did feel the same way first 10 - 15 days
Also had trouble with controling bowell movement
I was on liquids for 4 weeks and understan you well in that mater
Also had issues with "feeling" and knowing when I'm hungry.
I honestly think you have been trough a lot and you must give your body time to heal specialy cause it was an open surgery.
    Recovery is longer , harder
I had laparoscopic surgery and had a lot of difficulties with moving around - like you said walk for few min and felt like I've been runing a marathon [emoji28]
Give yourself time and keep in touch with surgeon and your medical team

  3. Hi ,

I was "sleeved" 4 months ago , 29th August. So far I've lost around 56-58 pounds. Since beginning I couldnt walk to much or exercise cause of the pain in the right side - where liver amd gallbladder are. Talked to my surgeon and did some bloodwork - everything seemed normal. Surgeon suggested to stay of working out and just walk. Last 2 weeks I had intens pain so I ended up doing an ultrasound to se what the hell is wrong.Of course gallbladder stones were to blame and there wasn't any surprise there. Another thing poped up - I suddenly have a hemangioma on my liver that wasn't there before surgery. It is 4 x 3 cm . I'm scheduled to remove gallbladder in one month. Right now I'm not sure is it the cause of pain because it isn't food related - I don't eat eggs - allergic, I don't eat greasy or spicy food , etc. I feel pain when I walk , try to exercise or do any activity for longer time.

Please any kind of advices pr experience is more than welcome.

    Thanks

    Selena

  4. They sound perfectly normal.
Drain sites close from the inside upwards. If the skin healed first then the hole underneath would end up being a pocket called a sinus which would fester and become infected.
A couple of steri strips and small dressing over them should be fine. Don't touch or pick them.
They don't sound infected. It is normal for wound sites to be hot pink and tender and ooze. An infection would be very red, hot and very painful and the redness would be growing in diameter each day.
Nothing to be scared or angry about, all perfectly normal
My surgeon told me the same thing
I guess I was just scared and emotional in general . Thanke you so much for explaining. It makes sense that it has to close from inside out . I'm just scared of infections and complications . You helped a lot

  5. First off - drains suck! Now that that's out of the way - Congratulations on your surgery. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Drains were and still are the worst part of all this . Just today I was freaking out - I have holes in those places and it is ****** scary [emoji43][emoji33] but my surgeon was helpful and explained everything so I'm much calmer right now . Recovery is good except these incisions. Thanks for nice wishes [emoji8]

  6. What is the rationale for a CVC? They are a huge risk for serious infection and sepsis. Could he not give you a midline like a PICC line? I ended up with a PICC due to severe dehydration etc (I ended up pretty ill after my first op on the 12th August).
A PICC is less risky but just as reliable, I would ask if they would consider that instead [emoji4]
Well not really sure about guidelines.
I was admitted to hospital and anesthesiologist came and checked me once more - and decided not to go with central line. He said I have good and useable veins. I was receiving a bundle of liquids and medications for first 3 days .
    Most important everything went well
    Now heading to healing [emoji4]

  7. Hi!
Carefully clean around them with a saline based wound wash, keep dry and covered with gauze then call your Team. Infections need to be addressed by professionals
    Good Luck [emoji171]

Already doing that - changing gauze twice a day
Nurses are using Hydrogen , salin and Rivanol solution
Of course I contacted my surgeon today
    Waiting for a response
    Hoping for the best [emoji4]
    Thanks for answering [emoji8]

    Just for notice [emoji6]
They didn't put central line - my veins were good [emoji4]
I had two draining tubes - not sure is that common
I'm healing well in 4 incision sites
But those two places where drains were are not quite good ...
Hoping to resolve that soon [emoji4]

  10. I won't be going to the hospital until the day of surgery, and most likely will get discharged the next day.
    Best of luck to you!
I must be there two days earlier.First day they will do my blood tests for check up. Second day they will apply central venous line and the third day it is surgery . Good luck to you too [emoji8][emoji8][emoji8]

  11. I really hope the doctor know what they're doing with the central line.
if I remember correctly they will tell you not to breathe for a moment while they push through and there might be a sensation as the line goes in

    Honestly , I hope too .
Thanks - any experience means a lot
I will ask my surgeon is it really necessary or not
Of course - you must feel the line going in ...
There is a bundle of complications connected with central line but I'll hope for the best
    Thanks Mikeyy [emoji8]

  12. Is that the iv that goes directly into your heart? If so man does it kill when they go through the neck with the scalpel woooooo

Yes , that is central line that goes to the heart . Obviously it doesn't kill because it enters the vein and it doesn't cut your carotid artery [emoji5] it goes in jugular is subclavial vein [emoji5] I'll let you know what and how it ended

  13. I didn't have one, but as a nurse I can understand why a doctor would want one. If you have bad veins or difficult to access veins, there's some reassurance in having a central line. No worries about infiltrated IV's or blown veins.
My day of surgery, my veins all seemed to go into hiding and they wound up putting mine in the antecubital area (the place in the crook of the elbow where they draw blood. What a pain in the a$$ it was having it there. Every time I bent my arm, my IV machine would alarm. If I got too relaxed during sleep, it would go off and wake me. Miserable. I suppose if I had it to do over again, I'd consider insisting on a different site. If they couldn't, I would have been willing to do a central line.
And I'm not 100% convinced you'd have to wash with special soap. I didn't have to wash with a special soap before my VSG. The only surgery I've ever had to do a skin prep was my hip replacement. Besides, a central line is usually in a vein near your shoulder/neck area and has an occlusive dressing over it, so it wouldn't be an issue when showering. Just my 2 cents.
Oh I know why and which is the use of central line..
I know it is usually placed in to jugular vein or subclavial vein
I was just worried about potential infections and I haven't seen a lot of bariatric patients having it ...
    Thanks for sharing
I know obese people have that issue with veins - hard to reach or they pull back or simply having thin veins
Hoping for the best and of course I'll let you guys know what happened [emoji854]

  14. I didn't plan for it ahead of time, but I ended up with one. My veins were nowhere to be found on surgery day. It stayed in for a week after. I didn't like it (obviously) but it wasn't the end of the world, either.
    Thanks
    Your experience means a lot
I'm guessing that my surgeon is just being carefull and wants to avoid unnecessary search for the veins of they pull back
Did you have any issues with the c.line - infection or something like that and was it hard for you when they placed it ?
Of course it is not the end of the world [emoji4]
    Thanks one more time m

  15. Nope. I have terrible veins from chemo and radiation, too. And I've never had a central line. Now, maybe they are talking about just getting your iv catheter placed? If so, do what he wants. But it's still weird and more chance of infection cuz they'll want you to shower the night before and morning of with a special soap. I wouldn't want anything in my vein when I'm doing that...

Well if my surgeon considers that it should be placed - I won't disagree
I'm worried about possible infection but I won't have it for long so hope for the best
I'll see whether he taught in ordinary iv path or on the central line
Anyway I'll let you know when that happens [emoji4]
Regarding the showering and special antibacterial soap - I don't know what is the protocol in this hospital
We will see what is going to happen [emoji854]

  16. They put an extra iv in me after surgery began. It is hard for them to find my veins. Good luck on your surgery!!

    Thanks [emoji4]
I just haven't seen it often with other patients so it was just curiosity
I guess my doctor has a reason for that decision
I was kind of worried about placing but hope everything goes well with both
I sure will let you guys know what happened with that [emoji854]

  17. hey they got the rest of us on that table! And into the hospital bed, too! Don't worry - Dr. Now's patients are all 600+ lbs, and they get them on the table and into the bed, too!
Yep, I know [emoji23] This is just me - being foolish [emoji854] It sounds funny even to me but it is one think I do think about [emoji846] sure thing they are equipped to deal with obese patients . Your answers make me realise how funny my fears are [emoji7] thanks

  18. The headache might be from carb withdrawal. I think i had one for the first couple of days
    Yes , you are right
I have noticed it is normal in first days cause it is a huge difference in calorie intake and in makros it self .
But overall I'm holding quite well
Had no crisis so far or need to eat more than this
    I'm struggling with Water ..
It is so hard to drink enough .
    Thanks [emoji8]
