  1. I'm 5 months out, but I had significant pain (and I have a high threshhold for pain) for 4 weeks. At four weeks I was "magically" pain free. I started walking at the gym during week two and it hurt, but as time went on it got incrementally better, until it disappeared at 4 weeks. I had been expecting the no big deal recovery that I had heard about and back to work at two weeks. But that was not my experience.
Exactly! I actually started working from home four days post-op, then went in the office at one week. Wearing anything restrictive (like jeans) is a no-no, but I'm pushing through. Tylenol!!!

  2. You can freeze the Protein Shakes and eat them like ice cream. Jello may help somewhat.
Try to stay positive and remember that you are more than half way there.
I never lost my appetite like some do either so I understand how hard it is. Try to stay busy and keep your mind off the hunger as best you can is my only advice I slept a lot when I was at your stage.
Remember that this stage is short lived and will be so worth it in the end.
Hang in there. You can do this.
Thank you for the "protein cream" idea! That sounds fantastic! (I just found the Atkins chocolate banana shake, and I really like it after losing a taste for all of the Premiere ones.)

    Thank you!

  3. I said nothing about stonewalling everyone in his life. This is a work situation. If I say "I'm having a medical procedure and don't feel comfortable discussing it yet," that is a perfectly acceptable line. If the person pushes, they truly don't give a rat's patoot, as they are not honoring your wishes. They're likely nosy.

But-- if he did feel like saying that line to anyone, that's perfectly up to him and people should respect that. Not one friend or "social contract" should be lost. I chose carefully who I wanted to know based on many factors; every single person that I delivered that line to said "I understand."

And it means that no lies are needed. My social norm is to not lie to those I care about.

  4. There are lots of things that aren't legally required, but are expected as social norms. It's not realistic to stonewall everyone in your life and expect to have continued positive relationships with them. People are generally asking questions because they care on some level.

  5. Before surgery, I drank A LOT of Water. Like, an obnoxious amount. I drank it fast, cold, and rapidly. Obviously, with the new sleeve, I am down to sips. My question for folks here who have gone through surgery, and are happy with the results ----- can you chug without crumbling in pain?

Big, big chugger here. Like, a twenty-oz Coke zero in 5 seconds.

I'm doing regular drinking for now; the removal of all carbonation for the foreseeable future was one of my biggest concerns about this surgery.

For my first 4-5 days after, I did the sipping.

  6. Livelychick thanks for sharing this issue. I'm scheduled for surgery 8/29/19 and although I'm so, so sorry you're in pain, I want to know every possible setback that could occur. I've read the other responses and I hope that provides relief. By you opening up, I'm getting information that I hadn't yet received. I'm being told to consumer 64 ounces of Water per day and 40 grams of Protein. Now I know that just might not be possible at first but I will get there. Thanks again for sharing and I truly hope you feel better soon.

Thank you! Apparently, I'm an anomaly!

  7. Are you walking to get the gas out? I had my July 30 and had no pain or took pain meds at all.
Yep. Walking at least 5000 steps per day. When I walk it doesn't hurt at all; it only hurts when I have to sit up from a reclined position or sit down or bend down or do any kind of twisting in a sitting position. Getting in and out of bed was so painful that I almost blacked out. Can only back sleep; tried to side sleep two nights ago and again, just the act of crawling into bed face down was so painful that everything went dark for a beat.

Everyone's responses here make me wonder if something is amiss. I'm calling tomorrow.

  8. Just sleeved on 8/12/19. Everyone talks about moderate pain, but holy moly, mine's not moderate when I try to stand or sit or bend or do anything that requires core muscles. It burns behind the 'big' incision, and I have to use my arms and other people to stand up. Tonight, the stabbing pain had me in tears as i tried to stand up from the couch. And coughing??? I feel like someone is stabbing a knife in my abdomen. I told the surgeon this on Thursday, and they seemed unconcerned--but it feels odd that I'm seemingly the only one who is experiencing this. (Fwiw, I've got a hella high pain threshold.) It is getting a little better each day, but then something will happen that makes it come back hard again.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

  9. I'm day two post-op and woke up last night with the same hunger pains. I couldn't believe it. I drank some Protein Shake, went back to bed, but woke up ravenous. I'm trying some Bone Broth, but it's not helping. I've done intermittent fasting in my past, and it never felt like this.

Any other solutions? Protein Shakes aren't working. Neither is bone broth. I am taking pepcid at night.

    This is miserable.
