Day 5 post op Still feeling bad. Gas pain is intense and my nausea came back and I vomited. Went to the ER and my blood pressure is 157/80. Super high for me cuz I’m usually low around 110.

    They’re running labs on me

on top of this I’m dealing with a lot of personal drama that’s impacting my recovery :(

Praying for you. 🙏🏽 I hope you are feeling better and everything is working itself out.

Thanks ! Still nauseated and gassy so they are keeping me another night. I’ve been walking a lot. I try to walk every hour. How long did you walk around ?

and does everyone go home with those injections ? I haven’t heard about them

I believe every Bariatric program/surgeon is different but my doctor did prescribe them. Never thought I would be able to do it on my own because I hate needles but I had a great nurse when I was in the hospital and she helped me get comfortable with it (or as comfortable as humanly possible Lol) The injections are a blood thinner that helps yo prevent clotting. If you are active that is a huge help to prevent clotting as well. The waist trainer helped me too. I haven't been wearing it lately but I use it when I go for walks.

Morning everyone I had my sleeve yesterday 10/13 and I’m currently in hospital. Gassy and nauseated are my main symptoms . Besides that my pain is not as bad just being managed. I have to walk around today. I couldn’t do it last night .

Congratulations!!! Walking is key and I think it was the walking that has me back to normal so quickly. I was still drugged up rushing my nurse around the hallways 😂 I didn't have any nausea or much gas and my pain was managed well. I finished my last Lovnox injection last Sunday and I've already started losing weight. Keep us posted on how things are going.

I am also having my surgery 10/13.

Sent from my SM-J727T1 using BariatricPal mobile app

That's awesome!! Good luck!! I had my surgery on 10/1 and everything went well. I'm healing fast and today I move on to the Puree Diet. I refuse to blend everything Lol, so my dietician and I came up with great alternatives for me. I am totally embracing my new journey. Good luck again to you and all Sleevers.

  5. I had my surgery 6 days ago and I am doing well. I am kind of over the liquid diet but oddly the liquid diet does fill me up quickly. I think my brain is just confused as to how this is even possible 😂 I have 2 more days before I move on to the puree phase. As for my surgery, I haven't had any issues. My incisions are healing well. No vomiting or nausea, and my pain is minimal. The doctor wanted me to get up and moving asap. After I woke up in recovery I began doing laps around the nurses station and again once I was placed in a room on the floor. I was nervous going in because of Covid I wasn't allowed to bring anyone into the hospital with me, but my medical team took great care of me. I am so happy to start this new journey. Congratulations to everyone who made the decision and is doing the hard work.

My bariatric surgeon told me I needed to lose 20 pounds before the surgery. I remember at the time thinking “I’ll smash that, I’ll lose 25.” Here I am now, halfway through the 6 month period before my final consult, and I’ve lost 5 pounds. I’m stressing out a little bit because I wanted to lose at least the 20, but now it’s practically logistically impossible. Every day I keep logging my food and getting exercise, but I’m still having 2000-2300 calories a day on average. I talked to my primary care doctor and she said that generally all they want is a show of good faith that you can lose weight and stay focused most of the time.

I think a lot of my struggles are stemmed from depression. I’m not generally very depressed, or I can usually pull myself out of my “funks” pretty quickly...however right now with COVID happening, now forest fires only 40 miles from my home (I live in Central California, near Fresno), plus basically becoming a homeschool teacher because of COVID (and my kids are special needs, did I mention that?)...on top of that I’m trying to keep my home business afloat (I make jam and bread). So it’s a lot to deal with all at once, and trying to lose weight is just one more piece of fuel to chuck onto the fire.

I guess I’m just looking for some kind words from people that have been there. I know that losing weight in general is hard, that’s why we’re all here, we need this tool to help us lose that weight. But why can’t I just keep my head in the game? I know a lot is going on, and past me has just let things go and gained 30 pounds. So at least there’s that. I’m still down about 5 pounds.

Hi, I went through something similar. My insurance required me to loose 15% of my weight. I struggled...one pound here, 2 pounds there. I got to my last visit and didn't reach my goal. I was beyond disappointed and stressed out. Finally my nutritionist and I decided to stop focusing on Carbs and focus on calories. I began a 1500 a day calorie intake. Two weeks later I had finally reached my goal. You can do this!!! Don't get discouraged!!! Adjust your calorie intake and Im sure you will see the difference.

We certainly can't compel them to give us clearance and in my experience the more you try and pressure a doctor to do something they're not thrilled with the more entrenched they become. Make sure your program knows that Doctor No is against WLS in principle so they can refer future pts elsewhere. Heard of a PCP once told a 400+ guy that was considering WLS "You don't need surgery you just need to exercise more and eat less." The struggle is real.

That's absolutely insane for any medical professional to say that to anyone. I'm sure we all have a story or tell about rude comments that we've experienced.

I offered to pick up my results yesterday but he told me he needed to upload them into his system first and his office was closing in 30 minutes and I live 40 minutes from his office. This doctor is unbelievable!!

  8. Thank you all for your encouraging words. This mess of a doctor was really a kick in the gut. Thankfully he is not apart of the same practice group or hospital. I'm waiting for him to officially send over my results to my surgeon before I file a formal complaint. I wouldn't want my results to get lost in the mail 🙄

My surgeon is AMAZING and has an excellent bedside manner. Will be giving her a call tomorrow to make sure my results arrived and hopefully have my new date fairly quickly.

  9. Hi everyone, I am new here but I have been in my Bariatric program for 8 months of so. I had a surgery date for February 4th however a week before my surgery I went to get cleared by my primary care. My EKG came back normal but she decided to send me to the Cardiologist and have him review my results just incase my surgeon decided something additional would be needed at the last minute. I went to the Cardiologist and after his initial check he said he would clear me. He then asked what kind of surgery I was having and once I told him he responds with "Are you sure you want to do that?" He then decides to look into the labs database at some blood work results I had done over a year ago and said "oh it looks like your cholesterol is elevated....I can't clear you until I give you a stress test." I was furious. Then he says the only open appointment he had for the stress test was on THE SAME DAY AS MY SURGERY. But not before telling me all about a patient he cleared once and they arrested on the operating table.

I went in yesterday for the stress test and passed with flying colors. As I was about to leave he says "I still think this is a radical option for you to take." He promised he would expedite my results and get my results over to my surgeon the same day which didn't happen. I called back today and he had his aid to tell me AGAIN that my cholesterol was elevated and that may cause me to have a heart attack. If that wasn't enough he called me personally after I hung up with his aid and repeated the same thing. I explained that I went over my RESENT results with my primary care yesterday and everything is under control.

This man knew nothing about my struggle with my weight my entire life. All of the different size clothes in my closet, all of the diets and WL programs I have joined. From the start he decided he didn't agree with my decision and took every opportunity to discourage me.

It was at that I realized I had met this doctor about 5 years ago when I accompanied a dear friend to his office at another location. I remember he asked my name and when I told him he said my name was really pretty but I should lose some weight because "my name was too pretty to be overweight "

Needless to say, I will NEVER go to this doctor again. Sorry this is so long. He really upset me with all of this.

Hopefully I will have a new surgery date soon.

    Thanks for listening
