    need advice

My nutritionist once told me, "Your not eating enough!" I kissed her....every time I listened to her the weight loss started again. Go back to basics. No drink till 30 min after your meal, take 20 -30 min to eat a meal. You should be taking in 70 - 80 grams of protein and the same amount in oz of water. Try tracking your intake and see. You can add shakes to get the extra protein in. Sometimes it's just the water we forget to get in.... Good luck your doing a great job! Congrats

    My mom "spilled the beans"

You are right to be upset that someone else has taken control of your road to recovery. Some people don't want others to know, some shout it from the mountain tops...and there are those in betweens.... I didn't know how to handle it but what I wound up doing was sending an email to everyone who I chose from my address book a week before surgery. I explained that I was having WLS on the date and I just asked them to pray for me. I never sat and explained it to anyone, I took the chicken way out and didn't face anyone but I told them. About 3 months after my surgery the check out clerk commented that I looked great and said that she hopped I didn't take the easy way out and have surgery. I looked her square in the face and said.. I had Lap Band surgery and it's the hardest thing I have ever done! But look I am doing it. I then had this free wheel handed to me... I began to tell anyone who asked the same story. "I had Lap Band Surgery and it's the hardest thing I have ever done but, I am doing it!" Don't let others get in the way of your journey! Don't let this stop you! It's hard especially when others judge or watch everything you put in your mouth..... been there done that.... This is your time... your journey... To hell with anyone who threatens to take it away from you....

Hey Jenn, Unfortunately I will not be able to make Susanna's meeting on the 19th It is my son's high school graduation.... and listen to Susanna... she's right about the toning. Keep up your good work and perhaps I will catch you at the July meeting.... Should be the 17th.... Keep posting and searching the site for inspiration... I believe it helps to talk to peeps who are going through the same process for support! and Joelle I see your from Jersey, not sure where but get to a seminar. I did much research but when I went to my Doc's seminar the light bulb lit... he takes the time to talk to any one who has questions and usually has one or two "alumni" from both kinds of surgeries to tell about personal experiences and answer questions too... you have taken the first step by searching the boards.. there is oodles of information here.... Good Luck and God Bless!

    Three years...and starting over.

Andi, Don't get discouraged! I can only tell you what has worked for me It sounds like your not taking in enough calories. My nutritionist got a big kiss from me when she told me that I wasn't eating enough. Your body goes into a survival mode when the calories aren't coming in. And water... you have to be drinking the water. Recently there has been many of my fellow bansters that have tried the 5 Day Pouch test to rediscover their pouch. The website is Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test You can try this, I made about 6 attempts until I finally completed it. It's hard but if you stick to it you will realize your pouch again. Hang in there, you have come a long way don't give up. I have had my share of ups and downs but every morning I wake up and say " Start again!!!" Good luck and try the pouch test if you can.

Welcome Jenn, This is a fantastic place. I too am a Dr. Gritsus patient. I was banded 12/27/05 and lost 135 lbs in 16 months but the rate you loose has much to do with how much you have to loose. I try to attend the monthly support meetings held by Susanna the nutritionist and I also go to weekly support with Dr. Sakowitz. I find the support is such a help. Food ideas and such and meeting others that are going through the same process you are helps to keep you on track. Congrats on your loss, your off to a great start:thumbup:
  9. Hey there..... I am checking back on the site and thought of you! How are you doing? I hope you are well. I am trying to get back to the mindset I was in when I was loosing and doing better than now. So I retrace my steps. God Bless

    A big day for me

God Bless, 31 lbs down without the band only preparing for it.... Think of how well you will do with that tool! You have the right mindset and trust me your recovery from the surgery and the ability to keep that ball rolling will be much easier.... You go! You should be very proud of yourself!!! I am proud of you!

    Three years...and starting over.

 I hear ya, I was banded 12/05 and did tremendously. I lost 135lbs then I had a complication that inverted my pouch and had to have the band repositioned. I was fortunate to not have to have it removed like some other peeps I know. I gained slowly for like 5 months and then the depression of being a failure and emotional eating came back 10 fold. I put back on a total of 60 pounds. Scared to have a fill and to go to my doc and be seen as a failure I hid and went back to my old ways.... but.... there is hope. We all know the rules, we all know that the band is just a tool and we can either use it or trick ourselves into eating around it. I went to the doc and he said " it's like you have a Porsche parked in your garage and wont drive it. Lets get you started with a fill again and back on track. " That day was like a new birth. Now don't get me wrong I still have been struggling. Every morning I wake up and say Today I start agiain. So far I have dropped 7 lbs! Yay.. it aint really that large of a number but I figure if I drop 7 lbs it's better than staying or God forbid gaining like I was... I broke the cycle, now.. it's the hard part. I go to support group every week and have found myself back here again too... We can do it.. with the help of all the great peeps on this site it can be a little easier, and as far as people who are not so supportive, ignore them. That was not nice CB you should be ashamed of yourself. Posts like that are not what this site is about! SHAME ON YOU..... GOOD LUCK AND KEEP POSTING! Jen

I am staying on the plan today because.... last night a group of fellow lap banders (2years + out) and I were talking about our struggles. I came away so inspired that I have decided to stay on the plan...... cross your fingers:thumbup:
  13. Hang in there.... several people in my support group have reported the same problem. You have a new friend, your band! They disrupted your body during the surgery and it is just letting you know. Take it one step at a time.... be good to yourself and allow you body to accommodate it's new partner. Don't be discouraged..... your not alone and you will get lots of support and good advice here......

Gas pain so bad I can not stand it

The only thing that helped me was to lay on my left side with my left leg straight and my right knee up in the fetal position. Rock a bit. This is the direction of your intestine... gas rises. The heating pad is great to help move it around. The key is to just tell yourself it will pass (sorry about the pun)! Good Luck

    Getting Ready for Spring Bootcamp

Josette,,,,,, I had that same problem..... not to be gross but large clots and heavy bleeding... before I lost weight... Don't be alarmed... heavy girls tend to build up a thick lining of the uterus which was my problem. The ob gave me some pills to take for 10 days before my period... to thin the lining.. your problem could be that simple too... Since I have dropped the weight I no longer have to take that medication.. It's hard not to think the worst but keep your chin up and don't let it get you down.! You have done amazing work 51lbs woo hoo:clap2: A big thanks to Tann :hail: or should I say "Drill Sargent Tann" I did go up one pound from last week but I was low and not doing the work.... the scale continued to go up till Sunday when I changed my habits.... back to exercise, back to calorie counting, and back to boot camp!!!!!!! I am going to keep to the dates shown on my signature it's all good as long as it goes down..... Terisita..... common my hand is out waiting for you to grab it, run T run!!!!! :whip: :rambo I got my RAMBO on...... We are gonna do it ladies!!!

OMG!!!!!!! CONGRATS!!! How you feeling about it? I know a girl in our support group who's lap band was only one month old when she too became pregnant! She actually continued to loose while eating well and exercising. She gave birth to a 9lb baby boy and all went well.

    Getting Ready for Spring Bootcamp

Since my band was opened up to let that darn sundried tomato that was stuck (1/30/07) I have had no restriction... I was on like a honeymoon! I could eat again and I did! THEN REALITY KNOCKED ON MY FRONT DOOR! My jeans were too tight, and my rings started to be harder to get off and on. OMG :faint: Since 3/1/07 I have been working hard! Back to the food journaling and pushing on the exercise and it has seemed to pay off today's weigh in let me know I have dropped three of the eight I gained! WOO HOOO my adjustment isn't till the 20th (one day before boot camp thank the Good Lord!) but proud to see that I can work hard to get back some of those honeymoon pounds! Not sure if I could stand the m/e diet? I tried it once and I was sooooo constipated that I amost had to go to the emergency room. Thankfully I called and asked them if they could give me any advice because they didn't want me there screaming from the john. They were soooo sweet and supportive, they said I had to drink that horrible bowel cleansing stuff as if I was going to have surgery....... KKKKKKKAAAAABBBBOOOOMMMMM! it did the trick... (what a strange story to have shared but there ya go!) so I will stick to my regular diet. You guys are really committed. What a great frame of mind! I can't wait to see the numbers drop during boot camp.Cause Sarge will be taking names and numbers! Jen
  22. I just realized we are doing %%%%% well math is not my strong point.. I guess I was at 48% of my total goal weight at 85lbs at the 6month mark, but dont be fooled has it slowed down! At one year you would hope that it was 96% but no it is only 75%. But damn proud of the acomplishment... my doc told me this was a two year process. maybe I programed my brain to that! LOL any way I love my band and I would do it again in a heartbeat! Jen

    Getting Ready for Spring Bootcamp

Bootcamp will start in two weeks..... We are in prep mode right now.. One thing I have learned is not to measure against others! It's not fair, some bansters have more or less to loose, some bansters cant exercise as much as others and so forth... I always find it's better to set a goal for myself, then work hard to get to that goal. There are so many measures of sucess... the scale is one, measurements are another, getting off medications is a great measure and my personal first and favorite the seatbelt fits measure... I used to struggle to get it on and that first time I pulled it across my body and clicked it first shot wooo what a feeling of acomplishment.... My mantra for food is to Journal everyday... count the calories (1400) count the protein (80grams) and drink 80 oz of non caffinated beverage (mostly water) daily...... My exercise is Curves 4-5x a week, Pilates class (boy does that hurt) and I walk 10 miles a week on my treadmill a little here and a little there! I go to weekly support group and I also had my best results reading and posting here! Share with others both yours and fellow bandsters ups and downs! I find it is the best tip.... .. Welcome and keep up your good work. Boot Camp is no walk in the park, So take these two weeks or so to get in the grove! Sargent T is one of the best motivators.... Jen

    Getting Ready for Spring Bootcamp

YOU PICK YOURSELF UP...... DUST OFF THOSE FATIGUES..... AND JUMP BACK IN LINE RIGHT NOW SOLDIER!!!!! <<<<<<<<Teresita you are my HERO>>>>>>>>>>>> I too have been dealing.... and have been remiss in my postings.... funny though this morning I decided I needed my boost from my fellow Bandsters and logged on. We cant let continue though..... thats how I got into this situation. For many of us food was and still is our comfort.... It doesnt judge us, it our control mechanism..... but then we feel bad about doing it..... beat ourselves up and it becomes a circle... Now we are on a straight and narrow path....... So... Here we go... Drink our water... move our butts and exercise and choose our foods! We all feel better and are better equiped to deal with the stress and problems when we are focused and proud of ourselves. Lets do it guys...... what is it 12 Days till Boot Camp.... Lets get back in the grove and be ready, willing and able to work hard to reach our goals.... Love ya Jen
  25. Banded 12/27/05! I lost 85lbs at my six month mark...... I too did it following the rules, attending a support group both weekly and monthly, and my secret wepon..... the food journal! Every day I weighed myself, and measured myself once a week then I noted the foods I ate and kept to my nutritionist suggestions of 80 grams of protein, 1400 calories and 80-100oz of non caff drinks. It took me a long time to get my big old but in gear to exercise but once I started... I was hooked. I now go to curves 5 times a week, take pilates twice a week, walk 10miles a week on my treadmill and use the rebounder daily about 15 mins. At my one year mark I had lost 129 lbs and 62.5 inches! I am currently at 135lbs lost at 14 months and have about 60 lbs to go! I will do it.... and you can do it too.... This website and the support groups let you know your not alone, show you some tricks, keep you inspired and let you tell your tales and hopefully insprire others...... We are all worth the good fight to once and for all loose the weight and be able to put our seat belts on! Good Luck to all
