  1. Hi All,
I've done my surgery early May 2019. That's been 7 months ago exactly today.
    Clogged/Plugged ears
I've been experiencing some weird behavior with my ears past few months, I'm not sure whether my gastric sleeve surgery might be the reason.
My ears tend to get clogged/plugged. Speaking is sometimes hard, and if I speak I can hear my own voice loud in my head, to the point where I have a hard time listening to what the other person said when they speak at the same time as I do. It's really starting to affect my daily life, due to working within Customer Services, since I'm interacting with customers all the time.
I noticed this happens when my heart rate starts going up, such as when walking fast, running, carrying heavy stuff, some form of light exercise etc.
Spoke to my local doctor (Not one responsible for my surgery) she just listened to my heart rate and told me everything seems fine and let me go????
    Supplements
While we at it, I would like this cleared out for me as well. How far in did your Vitamins drop, which then you had to take some form of supplements?
I visited my local doctor (Not one responsible for my surgery) 4 months post my surgery to have a blood test done to check if there is anything I'm missing. During that time, I was losing a lot of hair (?) The doctor said everything looks fine and I do not need any supplements. My doctor seemed to be really against me having done the surgery, she believes that it's unhealthy, which makes me believe she is not willing to put the effort in to help me. But hey, maybe that's just me (Planning on going to another doctor soon) She then continued on saying that she'll book another blood test for me within 2 months (Which hasn't been done yet, called her up twice within 4 weeks with no reply yet)
    Summary/Questions:

    • Is it normal that my ears feel clogged/plugged? Is the surgery the reason? Has anyone experienced something similar?
    • How many months post surgery did you need to take supplements?
    Thank you for your time.
Way before my surgery, I had a lengthy dental procedure and then started with the same ear-popping you're describing. They said it was TMJ caused by the positioning of my mouth during the dental procedure. It was exacerbated by gum chewing. It eventually cleared up on its own, but still comes back very briefly now and then.

    Supplements are life-long.

  2. Did you always enjoy working out? And if not, what got you loving it? I hate exercising and that seems to be the struggle lol I cant even imagine running everyday...
I have been a life-long hater of sports and exercise. The only thing that works for me is to watch a really good movie or TV show (something with lots of action or fast-moving drama) while using the elliptical. (It would work as well on a treadmill if you prefer that.)

  3. Are you making your own or buying a specific brand? My husband got me some Campbell’s cream of mushroom and cream of chicken that are both 98% fat free. But I’m so sick of sweet stuff that I’m trying to find alternatives. I did 2oz of cream of mushroom thinned out with 2oz of Water. Dear lord was it so yummy lol.
I like the 98% fat free mushrrom - undiluted. You just have to strain out the mushroom pieces. I thought the cream of chicken was gross, though.

  4. I am December 2 at Kaiser Northern California. I thought I would have to go on a liquid diet but Kaiser doesn’t require that - they let you eat up to 8 hours prior to surgery! They said it is easier for the body to heal after surgery. Definitely thankful.
I like that. If I had it to do over again I would ask my doctor if there's truly evidence that the pre-op liquid diet has any benefit. Or if maybe even it's vice-versa, like Kaiser says.

  5. I never got any information from my surgeon and I thought I'd ask the veterans on here what exactly is the medical reason behind the *NO* carbonated drinks like a soda?
I was really craving something today so I had a small no sugar coke just to see how I felt; I was very busy today realised at the last moment I got the wrong drink but I took it very slow small sips and haven't noticed any side effects?
I drink coffee during the day but also lots of Water everyday.
I've hit a stall the past few days I'm not sure if it's the coffee or the fact I'm very close to the end.
I'm currently 212; my ultimate end goal is between 180-190lbs...
Maybe the last 20+lbs will be more STUBBORN?
I must admit my activity level is minimal and that is my own fault I lack motivation most days..
I know I'll need to get into some kind of exercise; I've got a stationary bike but I really want to get a rowing machine for the whole body workout..
What do ppl think about rowing machines?
Sorry this is a multi part question...
    Thanks.
    Mike.

I truly believe the magic trick with exercise is finding something you enjoy.

  6. I was told never by several surgeons (I've had the pleasure of being treated/seeing more than one [emoji15]) with varing reasons why. Discomfort came up every time.
    IDK.
A lot of us still drink soda/carbonated waters with little problem, I do not. One run in with cit mag nearly took me out the game, enough for me to avoid carbonation indefinitely.
As always ask your surgeon, again.

    What is cit mag?

  7. Whenever you find yourself "literally sitting" it is time to get up and move! Makes you feel so much better.
I was sort of down yesterday and feeling stressed. Decided to go for a bike ride and I felt soooo good once I was doing it and then much more empowered afterward. "literally sitting" is a bad place to be. It is depressing, inward looking, unmotivating, and really sets one up for emotional eating. Getting some blood circulation to the brain and releasing some endorphins is a much better place!
But she is only 3 days out, so she's still recuperating. I'm 3 days out today and can't do much more than lie in bed. A bike ride is a dream for future days!

  8. Hey everyone! I am currently 5 months post op and I am loving this new life. I get told everyday how good I'm looking and how I lost a lot of weight I just don't really see it I guess yet🤷‍♀️ I am however having issues with my vitamins and I'm lacking motivation hard with exercising! What Vitamins can you keep down? Like I think my biggest thing are the MULTIVITAMINS. I get sick every time so I end up not taking my Vitamins which is horrible and I don't want to do that.
What gets you motivated to workout?? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Unless you're a really stoic, disciplined person, I think you need to have something you enjoy (at least a little bit).

In my case it's working the elliptical while watching a really engrossing TV show. I can't say I love it, but looking forward to the next episode keeps me motivated!

Also, making it a habit is crucial. For years I exercised religiously the minute I walked in the door after work. It was like being on autopilot. After a two-month break due to extenuating circumstances, I found it incredibly difficult to get back into it. If you force yourself to do it at a regular time every day (or every weekday) for a few weeks, it will become just a part of your daily routine.
