  1. Dr. Keyur Chavda is an excellent Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeon. He is skilled in Robotic and Laparoscopic surgery. He is very compassionate and caring and his stats speak for themselves. He is very skilled and takes his time. He has been in practice for 23 years and has been at Brandon Regional Hospital for 12 years, he holds the Master Surgeon Certification with SRC and is a Comprehensive Verified Surgeon with MBSAQIP.
Always ask specific and stats when researching your surgeons.
Cases performed, death rate, leak rate, all the quality indicators is essential when researching Surgeons

I agree 100% with you. Dr. Chavda was my surgeon and he is amazing!!

  2. Hi,
I'm 2 months post OP and so far i'm down 35 lbs since surgery. I'm hoping to lose another 31 lbs by the end of the year for a total lose of 100 lbs.since January. I'm currently averaging a loss of 2 lbs a week with little exercise. I'm working on adding more excercise to my daily routine. I'm currently working 13-15 hour days. I'd much rather be at the gym but when I get home I am just so exhausted. I know I need to cut back my hours and soon.

Hope my July surgery siblings are having success losing!! [emoji173]

  3. Hi everyone! First off my spelling sucks so sorry for all you reading this. Im venting (you all are my therapist right now) maybe even looking for other peoples opinions on how to deal with family.
With this weight loss process there has been alot of ups and downs. Not only with the stalls with the weight loss but emotionally, mentally, physically its hard. I have found that getting the sleeve done and losing the first 50pounds ive started speaking my mind becoming more confident in my own skin with getting thinner but alSo getting angry with family and friends. My family is so judgmental! I dont believe what they think is best in life. I find ive lived in the shadow of my mother's religion for too long scared to do what i want in fear of my family not liking my choices thinking things i want are childish or stupid. I dont want to break our family communication but it seems its going that way.
For instance i love tattoos i do, always have and have wanted a few for several years on my back. If i get what i want my sister would tell her kids im a bad example and she would look down on me because she believes its a sin. How do i separate what i want and what my family thinks. My family will blame my weight loss for getting the tattoos i know it. Bothers me!
I mentioned how when i lose 30 more pounds hopefully by Christmas this year i want to cut my long hair to my shoulders and do something drastic maybe bleach it blonde. My sister flipped and said why would you do that to your beautiful hair when so many cant even grow it that long. She makes me feel bad and has me second guessing everything. Another topic ive mentioned id like to have a baby in the next year or 2 and she says you almost divorced your husband last year why would you even consider having another baby with him. First off my husband and i are doing a thousand times better now and what we went threw has brought us closer together. Then She said our family has issues so why would i bring another baby with our genes into this world.. its funny she says this when she has alot of kids with the same genes as i do. She also said why would i want to get fat with a baby when i did this surgery to get skinny seems stupid.
I find myself wanting to pull away maybe even move out of state to feel like our family can start over with out all there drama.
My sister also says soo are you likeing that ur getting thinner faster with your surgery and not having to work for it. It made me really annoyed and wanting to cuss her out. This is a hard process i actually feel like i could of lost more doing weight watchers and the gym than i do now. So many foods upset my stomach. Healthy food is hard to eat. My stomach hates all raw veggies and home made meat i find it hard getting in Protein unless its store bought and cooked then it seems to go down fine. Its frusterating! I tend to go to crackers because there soothing to my tummy. Im upset as u can tell i may sound nuts. Lol. Im sick of having to buy acid reducers now. I have to take one everynight to be able to get to bed it burns soo much with out it.
Im 32 and feel as if my family has a say on what i do in life. I hate it. I hate there dumb comments. I dont know if i should sit down and talk to my family or just pull away and maybe later in life we will get closer together.
My mom doesnt see how rude she is ether. She comes in my house and tells me how much im finally becoming a cleaner person with less clutter and how worried shed been with my clutter in the past few years.
My moms worries now with the weight loss ill become a ****. Haha i laugh saying it out loud. When i was obese i wore sweatpants and tank tops with rips in them cause i was soo depressed with myself i didnt care how i looked because it didnt matter i was still fat nothing i did i was still ugly. All she can talk about is negative with me. Im Sick of it.
Now every bite i take there watching me and judging what im eatting and how much. They all practicality took a pole saying i was going to eventually gain all my weight back because thats how i am.
I feel as if im the black sleep in my family and everything i do isnt good enough. I am looked down on. My husband says ignore them and dont talk to them but i feel like they are the only people i have to talk too. Maybe its normal to have so much judgement with family members.
I never noticed before this surgery how much i didnt notice all the criticism and judement friends and family have and how it effects me. I guess i could go on for hours with everything thats upseting me so i guess ill stop now.
Sorry for the long vent. Feeling alittle better just by writing it down..... maybe i should start writing in a diary:)

    Hi,

I suggest opening up to your family and tell them how they are making you feel. It's your life and you are the one who has to live it. You are old enough to make your own decisions. If they cannot be happy for you and only bring negativity into your life you then you should pull away and do what's best for YOU and your family. I'm sorry you are going through this. I truly hope they realize how negative they are being.at the end of the day, your life is your business.

  4. I'm new here and new to the wls world lol. I have wanted bariatric surgery for as long as I can remember but was never a possibility because of the cost. Earlier this year I found out that it's covered by my health insurance so I decided to research it and have made the decision to start the process! This coming Thursday (the 26th) I'm going to the weight loss seminar that's mandatory for the program and am so excited! They gave me a huge packet of paperwork to turn in at the seminar. My question to any of you that have gone to a similar seminar is about how long after the seminar did the ball actually start rolling for the process? I have heard that we have to do an 8 week weight management class as part of the insurance requirement. Any advice or suggestions you can offer would be sooo helpful!!! Thanks in advance!

I think it may depend on insurance and your doctor's requirements. I wasn't required to attend a seminar, however, my doctor does host a monthly seminar and I attended by choice. I was only required to be on a doctor's supervised diet for 6 months and to see a nutritionist twice and a psych doctor once. I also had to have clearance from my primary. Good luck to you!! 5. FINALLY! Am at lowest weight in over 15 years. Don't know what we call finally getting out of the '300's and in to the '200's on the scale, but I'm going to call it 'MAGICAL'!!
LOL...am barely into the '2's but I'm claiming it!! Still a slow loser but I'm just grateful at this point. I could still be continuing my eventual 'gain into infinity/death'...
I'm so happy...relieved...so many other emotions...but a good jumble instead of a bad one..
Love this PICTURE!! I was so surprised as I had been stalled for past week and kept showing between a 1.2 lb gain or that I was staying the same. I got on and off the scale like 5 times as I didn't trust in what I was seeing (and my scale is weird sometimes but usually 3 tries gives me the correct #)..

  6. This has been one of my better weeks! 7 wks out and down 32 lbs. I went from a 3x to a 1x and they are loose [emoji4]. I haven't bought any new/new to me clothes yet. I need to, my coworkers who do not know I had surgery are giving me a hard time about my baggy clothes.

  8. I am a little over 3 months post op vsg. I was 330 lbs at my heaviest the beginning of January of this year. I had my surgery in Mexico on June 3rd of this year. I now weigh 214 lbs! I've went from a size 24/26 to a 12/14! This process works if you use the tool correctly. I am off all three of my bp medicines. 9. Congratulations Bianca!!![emoji122][emoji122][emoji122][emoji122][emoji122][emoji119][emoji119]

I had my four weeks post OP on the 13th so 3 days ago on Friday which is the day I weigh myself as well.
I'm also down 21lbs and it has been truly truly awesome!!! I've NEVER lost that much in a month.

I've been keeping to at least 15K steps a day but now that my body has adjusted to the expected caloric intake, I've gone to spin class twice in past week + September challenge on this site and I am feeling generally good. The compliments from friends and family have poured in but I still have a long ways to go so I don't get swayed by it.

There's definitely a pep to my step only because I feel so good about the prospect of the future. And you can feel the weight loss on a daily basis especially in inches if not the scale.< br>
I've been battling Constipation which is NOT fun and finally resigned myself to daily miralax.....was hoping it was going to be the case. Oh well, win A LOt and lose some![emoji2]

Thanks for your update, we'll keep sharing!!🧡

  10. This morning I weighted myself for my 4weeks Post Op :)

If you saw my post about what was going on in week 3 you have most likely have read that I had gained 1.4lbs and then my weight wasn’t moving. glad to say today I had lost that 1.4lbs and an additional 1.2lbs making this weeks lost a total of 2.6lbs :)

I know I have only lost 22lbs in 4lbs and that’s amazing but I’m really excited to lose the next 48lbs to get to my first personal goal :)

  11. Hi, I live in the Tampa Bay Area and I’m looking into getting the gastric sleeve, but there are SO MANY options of doctors out there. Also, I will be self pay. While the price isn’t and shouldn’t be the main factor, it is one since my insurance has a specific exclusion. I’ve looked up reviews online but it’s hard to tell what’s real and fake, and some aren’t even about weight loss surgery, and none mention self pay. I was hoping I could come to real people with real experiences. I also don’t want to waste a bunch of doctors times. I’ve heard really good things about Bay Surgical Specialists, and am set to go to a upcoming seminar with Dr. Kevin Huguet. Any and all advise and experiences would help! Thank you.
Hi, I live in the Tampabay area. Dr. Keyur Chavda at Surgical Associates performed my surgery. I was sleeved on 7/31/19. Dr. C and his staff our wonderful!!

  12. I had my 2nd post OP visit today since my surgery on 7/31. My doctor was super pleased with my progress. When I told him that everything I eat makes me head straight to the potty, he suggested I add more Fiber to my diet. I thought that would cause me to go... apparently it works both ways. I'm willing to try anything at this point. Hope everyone else is doing well!!

  13. I'm dehydrated, I can tell by my skin. I've been really trying to chug some fluids but I feel like I just cannot get in all the recommended fluids each day. I saw my surgeon last week and he said just to try and get in as much as possible, he wants 60-80oz a day and some days I'm lucky to get 50 so I'm close, just feel like I need more. This whole not eating and drinking 30 minutes before and after and meals to take at least 30 mins to eat I feel like it's impossible to reach that amount of Water unless I'm up 24 hours a day. Also was upped to 60 grams of Protein a day and that's two of the premier shakes. Where the heck am I supposed to fit Water in?!

It's hard now but it does get easier, hang in there! You've got this!!

  14. I'm now 36 days post OP and down 28 lbs. My Water intake is much better, I'm able to get 64 oz of water most days. I'm still struggling with my Protein. After a few bites I'm immediately full. I'm doing Protein Shakes to help meet my protein goals. I've been working out everyday and walking alot. Its amazing how much energy I have these days. I have not bought any new clothes yet but I really need to, everything hangs off me. I'm truly blessed to have had this surgery! I cannot wait to see what the future holds for me! Hope everyone else is seeing progress as well [emoji847][emoji106][emoji123]

  15. Yeah. You need to call the doc. That's not normal and it could be so many things. But all of them MUST be investigated. They will want you to have a stool sample usually and it's very important you do that and also practice extraordinary hand washing skills and hygiene. Also use a separate bathroom for now if you can and clean your's very very well for them before anyone else uses it. ((hugs))
I'll be sure too. Thanks again [emoji4]

How long has this been happening to you? Have you talked to your doctors about it or your RD? That is not a usual response to last so long after surgery, hon.

Hi, it just started this week. I thought it was the Protein Shake causing it. Yogurt, Soup and scrambled egg also caused it. Basically everything I eat. I don't eat anything with sugar except what is in my Protein Shakes. I'll reach out to my doctor and RD tomorrow and see what they think. Thank you!!

Ps, you always have the BEST advice!! ❤

  17. I kinda wish I had this problem but I'm currently dealing with everything I eat passes right through me [emoji853]. Nothing seems to help either. I hate eating at work now. The bathroom are not private and are way over crowded.... time is of the essence.

  19. Hi everyone this is my first post here. I am having surgery on Monday at 8 am. My stats are 48 yrs old, 5'7, HW 280, CW 265, not sure on a goal weight yet. I would like to stay in touch with others who are going or have gone through this procedure.
I am feeling excited and nervous. Is there anyone else here in Canada who has gone through Smartshape in Toronto?
Anyone here with stats similar to mine who have gone through this? What have your results been like?PhotoCollage_20190810_192526072.thumb.jpeg.0f46c0d8d6adb1fe9cd127ac06648a47.jpeg 20190822_161814.thumb.jpeg.49cea57292336d3589f3d11ed475e0c5.jpeg

Welcome and I wish you all the best in your weight loss journey!! This has been the best decision I've made. I researched it for years before actually going through with it. My only regret is not having surgery sooner! I was more excited than nervous about surgery. The morning of surgery went by really fast, everyone involved in the surgery prep process was kind and supportive. My surgery and recovery went amazingly well. Hope yours goes as well as mine! You've got this!!
