  1. Wow! So sorry to hear that. Is that even common? What did the doctor say about it? Glad they were able to fix it and I’m sure you will get on track now that everything is situated right.

Nope, pretty rare overall, and amazingly rare this soon. But I've always had truely crap-tacular luck, like shattering my knee in a particularly bad and unusual way, 10 days prior to my scheduled surgery, which then had to be post poned.

Ah, well, if I have to fight harder for it, maybe it'll mean more to me. At least that's what I'm trying to convince myself.

  2. It happened to me. I went in for my first fill and my doctor had trouble accessing my port. It was clear from the flouro that it had flipped.

I have since had it revised and had a fill at the same time. I am much more sore in my port area this time than the first. My doctor says this is normal since he had to extract the original port and then stitch in the new one.

Hello all! I was banded on Jan 14-09 and have been very excited and happy. However, my port flipped over. Has this happened to anyone else?

I had my surgery 2/20/09, went for my first fill and my doc couldn't hit it, which is unusual, acording to him, his office staff and my research. He said he would get me scheduled for a fill under fluro, but it took his staff 3 weeks to get me scheduled (and that was with me calling several times a week, an telling them he gave me a day, they just needed to get it on the hospital's schedule!). I finally got my appointment, went in this morning, and everything looked ok, untill he tried to do the fill- it was totally upside down! When he was trying to do the fill, one time the port angled a little, and you could see the metal back is now on top, so, no fill for me! I wonder how long it will take for them to schedule this?

He didn't say anything about changing the port, just flipping it back and repositioning it, do they have to replace the port? I don't know that I really care one way or the other, I just hate to think it never even got used!

  3. ARG!! I HATE my doctor's assistant!!!!

Ok, went for my first fill, I had had some issues with my incisions wanting to gap, and I Really scar bad, so he had trouble finding it, and said he would get his assistant to schedule me for a fill under fleuro. Irritating, but not totally unexpected, my luck has always been crap so I'm kinda used to it. His assistant didn't call, so the day before he said he would get it scheduled for, I called his assistant again. ki had called about 3 times already, but I had her paged to the phone, so I could actually talk to her. She claimed she didn't get my chart, that the Dr still had it, she'd call me back in teh next couple days. Long story short, 3 weeks after he couldn't hit my port, she still hasn't set up the damn appointment! She never returns calls adn when by some mirtacle she answers the phone, it's one excuse or another. I talked to her Friday, she said she would call me back with the appointment in 30 minutes, 3 days later, still no call!!!!!

I'm calling and talking to the office manager Monday! I'd hate to switch to another dr, but his assistant is worse than incompetent, and I didn't pay this much for surgery to have it in empty and not helping. i know the band is only a tool, but when the fire extinguisher is empty, it's not much of a tool, it's just one more way to get burned.

  4. So how is everyone else doing? I had my port incision open up a little, had to see my Doc today. Everything is ok, He started me on antibiotics, steri-stripped it again, all ok. The best part is that that practice wants you to stay on full liquids for 2 weeks, and he gave me the go ahead to start mushies today! Best Cheesy rice caserole of my LIFE!! oh, and I lost 14 pounds, although he warned me some of that might migrate back now I can eat real food.< /p>

  5. Well, I'm home from the hospital with my band! YEA!!!! He ended up not needing to do anything for the hiatal hernia, so I guess that is good news. He requires you to stay overnight, and then get a swallow study the next morning. All went well, and I'm already starting to feel better now that I'm allowed fluids again. Can't be too bad, or I wouldn't be posting! Just wanted to give everyonr an update, even if I'm still a little groggy from lack of sleep.< /p>

  6. I am also having the band placed on the 20th! I was really nervous, but then had an injury at work a week before I was supposed to have this done, and after 2 surgeries that each lasted about 3 times as long as this one is supposed to, I'm feeling alot better about it! I had to fight so long and hard to get this done, I'm just thrilled it's actually going to happen finally! GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US!

  7. You can get these whey Protein shots at nutrition stores, they don't have that milk taste, but they are pretty thick and concentrated. they work great in Jello, though! cherry flavored in lemon Jello, fruit punch, orange and grape are the other flavors i've seen, they all worked well in the jello, and if you get the ones with 40 grams of Protein, you can make 4 20 gram servings from 1 jello box and 2 Protein Shots.< /p>

just an idea, it workwd well when I tried it.

  8. I'm scheduled for February 20th. WHAH-HOO!!

SO, what are we going to call ourselves? I like "February Foxes"!:scared2:

I was scheduled for December 5, but had a injury at work, and ended up having to have the first of 2 surgeries on my knee 12/4, so there went that plan! My Orthopedist only just cleared me for lapband surgery, for any time after Feb 2. My lab band surgeon wants me able to bear wt at least 2 weeks before doing surgery, so... Feb 20! Just in time to be on Clear liquids for my birthday, yippee!

  9. That really sucks that you had this happen to you. But I am glad to hear that the docs are on top of this and that your getting this taken care of quickly. Even though your band date is changing we're still here to cheer you on!!!

Well, it ends up I'm going to have to have 2 knee surgeries after all. He said he got in there and my meniscus was totally shredded, which did not show up on MRI. He fixed that, repaired and reattached my ACL, and cleaned out the bone fragments, but I have to go back next Thursday for the rest. Oh, well. He said a lot of MD would have just removed the meniscus, but as young as I am, that would have caused problems down the road. He said "I'd rather do it in two pieces, and do it well, than rush it in one, and have poorer results." Hard to argue with that! so I'll be getting 2 surgeries in December, and neither one is the band! Ugh! Well, I waited this long, whats a few more months. And I've felt so crappy, I've lost a few pounds, so that's one possitive.

  10. I am so sorry to hear that you are having other issues to deal with. I hope your leg heals back to normal. Keep us updated on your LB Surgery.

Well, I'm having knee repair surgery tomorrow, so it looks like my lapband won't happen until Jan or Feb. :cursing: oh, well. At least the orthopoedist thinks it will be a pretty simple repair, and all done in one surgery, as opposed to several.

  11. I'm glad no one has responded to this, because the next morning, I fell at work and broke my leg. It's a big nasty, 1 in a million multiple fracture, and I'm goint to have to have it surgically fixed. Not sure if I can still have my lap band next week:mad:, but I can't lift my leg at all, and have little muscle control. I'll try to keep you all updated, but wanted you to know. If anyone's the praying type, I could use them. There is some debate as to if I'll get feeling back.

  12. Hi I just wanted to know everyone's age, date of surgery, current weight, goal weight, location and doctors?

    I'll start

I'm Emily and I'm 22 my date is 12/18/08, my current weight is 257 ish, I want to weigh 145 I'm getting banded at memorial hospital in Tampa Fl by Dr. Aguilia.

Ok, I'll answer this, but please Bear in mind, that I'm emotionally fragile, and you guys will be the only people without some sort of medical degree who know the answer to some of these! My husband thinks he outweighs me, but I've got him by a good 30 pounds or more! Then again, maybe he's lying and knows better, but is feeding my ego.

I'm Wyllis, 35, 12/5/2008, weigh 342 (UGH!) goal of 165ish, Louisville, Ky, Dr Jorje Rodriquez

  13. Hello December Bandsters,

I'm new to the site, but my surgery is scheduled for December 4. I met with the surgeon on Friday and he didn't give me any pre-op diet to follow, but the more I'm reading, it looks like everyone else has some type of pre-op diet. Would anyone mind sharing theirs with me?

    Gretchen

I don't have a preop diet, except for Clear Liquids and a bowel cleanse the day before. My Doc does require one for some patients, but not for me. Not sure why he doesn't require one for me, but... Maybe your doc is like mine. I'm putting myself on a modified low carb high Protein diet.

  14. Hi everyone. I was banded 10/30/08 and have a post-op diet question.

Without being told the dangers of not following the post-op diet, I was wondering if anyone ignored it and ate according to how they felt? Have you had any problems since doing it your own way?

    Thanks

    ok, me- not banded yet.

My coworker Judi- Blew off the diet, progressed through stages in 10 days not 4 weeks. First slip 4 months out, second at 8 months, slipped with no resolution at 15 months, had to have her band replaced, again blew off diet, second band first slip at 5 months after placement, again at 9 months, Dr will not replace again due to noncompliance, currently no fill, trying to resolve a slip. So she DEFINATELY had problems.

Friend Debra- cut each stage short by about a day or two, 8 days clear liquid instead of 10, 6 days full liquids instead of 7, 12 days mushies instead of 14. She has lost 130 pounds, no problems.

So it depends, I guess on how much you cheat, how good you are at the small bites and other compliance issues, and just sheer luck! So a resounding maybe, I guess.

  15. How's he going to do without you picking him up for awhile? DD did pretty good for the most part. I had a 6 week, 10lb lifting restriction.

    Best wishes!

For the most part my son likes to do for himself, except first thing in the morning on the way to daycare, but I figure my husband ought to be good for something, so he can do it for a few weeks. My son loves the car at the grocery, and I frequently get groceries after work and before picking my son up from day care, so I only have to worry about getting the food in the house.

I think I might try bandaids about where the incisions are going to be, with a bigger one at the port site, so I can "show him Mama's owies" before it actually hurts if he forgets! Of course that only occured to me after racking my brain for a solution for about 2 weeks, and finally caving and begging for advice! Always works that way, dosn't it? :)

  16. I have a 3 year old who is a great kid, but LOVES to climb on me and bounce on my belly. This is normally not a problem, he's fairly gentle about it, all things considered. Well, after surgery, climbing bouncing or bumping my belly is not going to be good! As many people are on here, and have come up with some ingenious solutions to all manner of problems, I have every confidence someone has come up with a good solution to this issue.

    Any ideas would be great!

  17. I now eat 1 meal a day and 2 Protein shakes . Before surgery I have to be on liq- for 2 weeks,SOOOO NO TURKEY FOR ME this year:glare:But my Christmas will be better:smile: Kerry

I totally hear you on the Thanks Giving dinner Kerry. Luckily I don't have a total liquid diet before surgery so I will get to have some turkey but so much for all the sides.

Now Christmas isn't going to be so good. With that only being about 3 weeks after surgery that will be the attempt to have mushies. I will have to check out the baby food isle to see if they have any christmas dinners! LOL

OK, so does everyone here have a low carb or liquid preop diet? my last appt was today, and I was TOTALLY ready to get the "no more carbs till after surgery, and no more bread, ever" speach, and no pre-op diet! not complaining, but Clear Liquids the day before and a bowel prep was nowhere near what I was expecting!

My family is thrilled, because I'm the unofficial Mashed potato maker. Every year, no matter who's house or even what state, I'm peeling potatoes and mashing. Everyone was afraid I would be on low carbs, and they're too nice to ask me to make something I can't eat. In fact, everyone was going to be on whatever my preop diet is, so it was almost a carb free meal with fresh fruit for dessert for about 30!

  18. My grandmother was the one who always managed to make me feel like something you would scape off the bottom of your shoe. Over the years, she has said so many things, I don't know which ones to pick, but I'd be typing for days if I listed them all.

When I was 10, I was 5'6", about 150, and in a C cup. She told me, in all seriousness "Honey, if you lost half your body weight you might almost be pretty." Lets ignore the fact that 5'6" and 75 pounds is skeletal, possibly dead, but she was my height and wore 3 sizes bigger than me! WTF???

We always had family vacation, where my sister and I, my parents, my aunt and uncle, their two daughters and my grandparents all spent a week at the beach. I brought a friend, and my grandmother called me out in front of EVERYBODY, bcause my friend and I were going to share a peach. A Peach, not a peach PIE, one damn peach!

I had just broken up with my first serious college boyfrined, and my grandmother told me "you need to go beg him back, he's way better than anyone like you can get." This was the guy that threw me out 3rd story windows, beat me on a regular basis, and stabbed a hunting knife to the hilt into my thigh, giving me permanent nerve damage, thank you very much!

You know, you hear the same things for long enough from someone who is supposed to love and support you, you start to think it's true. I didn't realize how screwed up I'd allowed her to make me, til I moved across a time zone and at least one state line. She died this summer, and I cried, not because I miss her or loved her, but every other family member spoke at her funeral saying what a wonderful, loving, amazing woman she had been, and I never met that woman. I met the woman who, when I lost 30 pounds one summer, said "that's a good start, only 150 left." I would have weighed 60 pounds.

  19. Me Too!!, Me Too!!

Dec 5, 2008 seems to be a popular day for surgery. Good luck to all of us, what ever day it is. I can't wait to see the Christmas card we send out NEXT year. I may get one of those borderline tacky ones with a picture of everybody in shorts and Santa hats pretending to be cold.

ok, hopefully I did not just offend everyone. Point being, can't wait to look more like a Holliday Hottie, less like my kid's snow man (lumpy, bulgy and way to fat on the bottom!)

  20. Hey all!

I haven't posted in the 50+ BMI forum as I kind of got lost in the newbie threads. At the beginning of 2008 I was just over 60 BMI - In my journey to prepare for getting my lapband I have come down to 58 BMI now. Dec. 5th I will be getting my band. It is great to see others in here who have started high and are having great success! Congrats to all of you that have done so well! You really give me hope that I can do it too!

    That's my day, too!!!!!!!

I'm excited and nervous, how about you? I've been chasing this surgery for over a year now, and I'll be thrilled to have it over with. Do you have any sort of pre-op diet required? I don't have one yet, but my last appt is 11/19, and so they can always tell me then. Good luck with your surgery, how long are you taking off work? I'm only taking 5 days, it's all my work will give me with it being in the Thanksgiving and Christmas time range.
