  1. about 8 years ago I went in for my yearly check up and got a tetnus shot while I was at it. The next day it was swollen out and bright red and I was feverish and dizzy. The doctors asked me to come back in, so I went in and upon being examed it turned out I had the chicken pox.. in my mid twenties!!! They quickly locked the place down and closed all doors and escorted me to the nearest exit because I had "contaiminated" the place. It was the weirdest thing I'd ever seen. Out in the parking lot they told me to go home and rest and sent me on my way! I had the chicken pox so bad I had them on my eye balls. I was off work for weeks. It was HORRIBLE! I'm over it now with several pox scares to show for it. tee hee!

    What do you drive?

Kat... Mine is just an ES but it has everything except for a sunroof (bummer) but I love it and it drives amazing and I have had zero problems with it. My mothers best friend has a red R/T that is awesome too. She likes it but wants a cadillac. haha. I really enjoy my car and love that it's still perfect and I don't have car payments.

    Cute Kitties and other Pets

This is Mason (6 month old lab/german shepard mix) and Liberty (3 year old pure bred german shepard) and our cat L'Roar aka Big BIG Kitty who's hanging out in our jacuzzi like he owns it! We love our pets a ton since we're not blessed with children as of yet. Not to say we'd love them any less once we have children, it'll just be slightly less sickening since we'll be taking 500 pictures of our child instead of the pets. hahaha.

    New To This Site

Hi there Danie! I'm josette and I'm near Lansing also. I'm in the process of getting the surgery done. I don't have BCN and I'm not sure about the pills. I guess it depends on if your doctor was aware and noted on your file that you were using that method for weight loss. Good luck!

Where are all the Michigan people at??

My hubby flipped out when he heard the next few months we'll need over a thousand dollars towards this. I just called and canceled my appointment. We're still trying to dig ourselves out of when I was on family medical leave taking care of my mom for 2 months until she died this past fall. Blah. I'm very bummed. Guess I didn't research this as much as I had thought.

Where are all the Michigan people at??

so how much did you end up spending out of pocket that insurance didn't cover? I also heard you have to pay $750 for mandatory support group.

Gone for Good Club - April 2006

That is AWESOME SkyeBlue!!! You'll both be in my thoughts! So I have a question for all of you. I have my first consult tomorrow and was informed that I have to pay $250 for the consult and that's the only fee due. Other people from my state are telling me that it's a hidden fee and I should go elsewhere and that it's unreasonable. I don't know what to think. Is this unreasonable? Also the doctor is requiring two visits with a psych and nutritionist that she picks. Is this common? Any opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Where are all the Michigan people at??

So tomorrow I have my first consult with Dr. Deol and I was told to bring $250 with me to pay for it because insurance doesn't cover it. I was also told yesterday by a few women that went to port huron to watch out for hidden fees from the Detroit Doctors. They said $250 is too much and that it's wrong that I have to have my evals through her doctors. Am I making a bad choice by going through Dr. Deol? I'm not sure what to think. :faint:

    So - what's your status?

I met my husband in July 2004 on yahoo personals and married my soulmate on Dec. 18, 2004. We were the first couple to marry in front of our state's christmas tree in front of the state capital building in Lansing, Michigan. We were on the news and everything. I threw this wedding together in 3 weeks. My husband had gotten an infection and had to be hospitalized for 2 days in November and it made me realize how much I truly love him so I called him on my way to work and said "lets get married" and he said "What???" and I said "lets do it" and he thought I was kidding.. when he realized I was serious he said "YEAH!!!!" so we started planning right then and it was beautiful and amazing. It snowed softly during the ceremony and I felt like a snow princess! We're very proud of our wedding and look back at the pictures often. He loves me more then any man ever has and I love him right back! awwww!!!

    Planter Faciitis

I have that too but I haven't had my lapband surgery yet. My doctor and physical therapist said stretching in the morning and having someone rub it out reduces the pain and they were right. Its helped me a LOT.

    Spouse's Reaction to Weight Loss

so I've been reading this and even though I am not banded yet I wanted to comment. My husband is very insecure and pretty jealous, even with me at 385 pounds. I worried when I started the process of researching the band about what his reaction would be to the weightloss. I know honestly that he's probably going to flip out and try even harder to keep me close to him but that's something I'm willing to deal with to be healthy and hopefully have kids. He's being supportive of my choice but he's very scared and keeps saying to me "promise me you won't change on the inside!" because he is fearful of my leaving him once the weight is gone and he's looking at a 6'1" blonde blue eyed wife that he knows other men are looking at too. I know it'll take a LOT of reassurance on my part to make things ok, but I know we'll get through it. Also, the whole issue about husbands paying compliments. Mine is horrible at paying compliments to me. On our wedding day everyone told me I was beautiful and a knock out and a princess except for DH! I remember right after the ceremony and during pictures I said to him "You look amazing" and his response was "thanks.. I think so too!" and my heart kind of fell because I was hoping for a compliment back. I never got one the entire day and night and it hurt for a long time and I brought it up a lot but then I realized that's just the way he is. Not all men are the complimenting kind but he makes up for it in other ways. I just get my compliments from my female friends. hahaha. My mom always said "nobody ever said life would be easy" and she was right. Personally I believe that you can't control the way other people react, but you can control the way you react to it. Just keep your chin up!:faint:

Hello all! I just wanted to wish you all a happy easter. This will be my first easter without my mother and my last easter without my band, so it's a good and bad day! I'm cooking up a storm for my family. I just wanted to tell you all how thankful I am that I can come here for all this support. Hopefully next Easter I'll be significantly smaller! Any idea how long it takes at this point? I know I need a sleep study and two visits with the psych and two with a nutritionist and a consult with my doc. I hope it doesn't take forever. i want this done NOW. hehe I'm so excited I could faint!:faint:

    Alcohol after banding

So some people do drink beer? I was kind of depressed about the thought of never drinking a beer again. You'd think not drinking pepsi would be more upsetting! hahaha. :faint:

    The Gone for Good Club

I need to get a scale before I can weigh in. Anybody have any suggestions on where I can get a scale that goes over 385? The only time I get weighed is at the doctor because all my friends scales only go to 330. You guys are doing AMAZING! I'm so proud of you! When I get banded I want to be just like you
  21. So I haven't had the surgery yet and I have a bmi of 51. I want to track my weight loss at home but I can't seem to find a scale that goes up past 330 pounds. I'm currently 385. Any suggestions? :help: Thanks everyone!

    The Gone for Good Club

My name is Josette and I'm 30 years old. I live in Lansing, Michigan. I'm married with no children (yet). We have 2 german shepards and a big black kitty cat (he needs a lapband too). I haven't been banned yet but made the decision a few weeks ago to improve my life for good. My job unfortunately is going through a software overhaul, which means lots of training, so I have to wait till April 11th to go to my PCP to get my forms filled out. Then I get to start the consult with my Lap Band doctor and all the fun begins! My husband is being very supportive to me. He's scared about it but supports my decision because he says "I know you're a smart woman that makes good choices" awwwwwwww! I also have the support of my 19 year old brother and my father. My mother, who was my best friend, passed away 5 months ago and I know I need to live a healthy life for her. I've decided not to share the fact that I'm getting the surgery with very many people but I did tell my mom's best friend, who in turn told me that she knows in her gut my mother wouldn't approve. This hurt me deeply but I choose to believe that I knew her better and I know she'd support me and I know she's supporting me from above. I was going to wait until I was banned to join this group but I find myself coming here everyday to read what's going on so I'm jumping in the group pool with both feet! Did anybody else find themselves pigging out once they made the decision to do it before they get to the first consult?? I need to be STOPPED! haha :faint: So I just ate my LAST Dove chocolate minature and it was wrapped in foil that has those little inspirational notes inside and it read "IF THEY CAN DO IT, YOU KNOW YOU CAN" Do you think it's a sign???

    Pregnancy in your 30's

So I can completely relate with you. I have a good job and I've been married since Dec 2004. My husband is 25 and I'm 30. We really want kids but I've been through a LOT in the past year+ and gained a lot of weight. I'd be putting myself at a huge risk if I tried to concieve right now. Plus I also have PCOS. I'm planning to get banded this summer so I can hopefully start trying next summer. I'm also scared that I waited too long. My mother always wanted to be a grandma and for the past 10 years she'd joke with me about when am I gonna find Mr. Right so I can make her a grandma. Now that I have Mr. Right she's gone and it's so upsetting that I don't know if I could handle having a baby so soon after she's died. This is a major theraputic time for me and losing the weight is going to help me so much. Hang in there Kim and things will all fall in place. 30's not too old! :faint:

Where are all the Michigan people at??

weren't you terrified to have the surgery in mexico. I think I'd be a little bit scared. But that might just make me niave. Did you research local doctors or did you choose mexico due to lack of insurance?
  25. I'm just starting the banding process :faint: ! I take 20mg of Lexapro a day right now. I've been taking 10mg a day for a couple years. I don't have depression but I do suffer from severe anxiety so I have to have something or I start having anxiety attacks. Lexapro works well for me but since I upped it to 20 mg a few months ago, after my mom died, I have noticed a decrease in my sex drive, much to the hubby's dismay! I'm thinking about getting it switched since reading all these posts. Thanks for the info everyone!
