I am 11 days post-op. I cannot tolerate Protein substitutes. I’ve tried everything and all of it makes me sick. Even Genepro... I can smell it, taste it, it gives me horrible gas & makes me nauseous.

I’ve only averaged around 30g of Protein a day since surgery. Yesterday I had to get IV fluids for dehydration because the Protein makes me so sick. I can drink Water just fine until I start trying to get my protein in. Staying hydrated needs to be my priority right now & the protein is affecting my ability to do that.

So what are the consequences of not getting enough protein at this point? I’m starting soft foods next week & I feel like it will be easier to get my protein from food as time goes on.

Other than the protein issue I’m starting to feel semi-normal again. Most of my pain has subsided & I feel like I have a lot of energy today.

Can you tolerate regular broth Soup? My RD said to put your protein (unflavored) in a bag and sprinkle it on everything through the day. Once your baggie is empty you have reached your protein goal for the day. The Rds and drs are in conflict as well at my office. The rds said to only get up to 32 g of protein where as the doc wants more like 40-60. They said that’s to much to tolerate so if you were with my practice You are on track. Heck I can only stomach 16g which sucks but I can’t stand protein anymore. Good luck and let us know what you come up with.

Itching around incisions ?? Surgery 8 day PO normal?? How can is too the itching can it be infection?

I had the same but it is just the normal healing process. I did use the pre op soap hibaclens a few times but it looks like everything is healing nice. I am still itchy 23 days out so you’re fine. Don’t worry.

Try the savory Protein options from Unjury. I switched to chicken noodle Soup flavor post op when I suddenly could not tolerate anything sweet. You are not taking a reflux medication post surgery?

Just tell yourself that the hunger is in your head and let it pass or go for a walk to distract yourself. The first two weeks were the same for me too--I equated it to quitting smoking. You are reprogramming your brain to perform lifelong routines but suddenly without the meals/snacks and drinks. It will pass.

Thank you for the info. Yes the anti acid pills are a God send.

You can do it if you have the right mindset. I'm still on liquids 3 months post OP due to complications. It is boring, but doable. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement. I went to get some chopped spinach and berries to blend in to my smoothies for a switch up. I’ve been watching Dr. Wiener on YouTube that mentioned that it’s important to start going to the more natural smoothies. Check it out

    TGIF Funky June Bunch,

Day 5 of the liquid diet…………

I made it through yet another day of Protein Shakes and Water.< /strong>

But I must be honest, I know I am suppose to have 3 -4 shakes a day but yesterday……

I just couldn’t stomach yet ANOTHER shake. Some Soup would be nice but my doctor said only Protein shakes and Water for the first 6 days of the pre-op diet. Whoever said variety is the spice of life, they were not KIDDING!!!

I’ve been frantically getting my house in order. Cleaning up so I won’t have to worry about that and stocking up on some much needed supplies. Riley (a.k.a. The pug) will be placed in the kennel for a few days. I am bummed out about that…….. I keep telling myself it’s just for a few days.

The hospital called and my arrival time is 10:30 am June 3rd. Folks IT’S HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Riley and I went for an extra long walk, yesterday. Need to get a couple of extra walks in before June 3rd.

Well, I jumped on the scale again this morning and low and behold the scale came in at 217!!!!!!!!

I couldn’t believe it but when you are reduced to Protein Shakes, water and walking 10K steps a day. Then threw in walking atleast 4 – 6 miles, I guess it will pay off in the end.

June Bunch!!!!! It can be done………….Keep The Faith!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is extremely encouraging. I am set for June 14th for surgery and I am day 2 of liquid diet and I am super weak. But This post makes me want to push through.
