Have a question and it may sound stupid..... but if you already had the sleeve and now have the RNY..... How can there be no restriction? Did the dr not re cut the sleeve to make it small again? or did they just do the MGB... / by pass?

No question is dumb. The restriction we feel with the sleeve is at the gate of the ending of our stomachs into our intestines. There’s a natural tightness there that allows for food to empty slowly. With the bypass it literally bypass all of that and empty into the intestines. The little gate or tightness is bypassed

I had the sleeve 15 months ago and my weight never literally fell off. Is that a fact for most with sleeve?

Nothing is a fact in weight loss surgery because there are too many variables. Literally everything down to genetics changes the outcome. But the sleeve is the most restrictive ( if don’t properly without complications) and safer surgery. The only thing is , is the stomach no matter how small can and will always stretch.

That sounds awful! Is this every time you eat or only if you over eat?

It was awful because I kept pushing my boundaries. In the beginning it hurt to simply swallow Water quickly. I was used to that full feeling satisfaction so I pushed and pushed until I understood that we should live to eat but eat to live! I made sure my 2-3 bites were Protein and I did amazing.

I've been reading through this thread and have a question. Im having revision surgery next week. Went from sleeve to MGB and now to RNY because i have horrible reflux. I had excessive weight gain in the years of trying to get to a solution, so I'd love to lose some weight with this as well, but it is not the reason Im having surgery. I see a lot of people asking for stories of success and mostly Im reading that "it's just not as fast" or "I miss my sleeve" but you guys still lost weight right? Just took longer, so had success, but not as fast as you wanted?

Yes I’m down 80 pounds since March. It’s just harder because the sleeve lets you know almost immediately that you’ve had enough or too much. The bypass doesn’t. Each individual is different. If I stayed on course I would’ve lost more but I’m trying my best and that’s all you can do

Hi! What do you mean you no longer get the full sensation like with the sleeve? I’m currently sleeved but might possibly need revision to bypass due to gerd... what do you feel now with the bypass when you eat, apart from what you mentioned, does it feel a lot different? Do you get dumping syndrome?

Hi, with the sleeve before my 3 pregnancies I could only take 3-4 bites of food before feeling incredibly full even leading to vomiting. Within a year I had lost 150 pounds with the bypass it’s no longer a pouch fullness but an uncomfortable nausea feeling. I have an Iron stomach so I’ve only had dumping once but I stick to what I know to be safe. Everyone is different. To me the sleeve was much bettter because I’m a good addict

Exactly. I loved that restriction and if it is not coming back then this is all on me again like before I had the sleeve.

Are you measuring portions and how much are you eating at one sitting ?

I had my revision in March and lost 40 pounds. I had my sleeve in March ( 5 years ago ) and on this date lost 55 pounds so it’s definitely slower and I’m actually exercising and counting calories etc this time around. I’m trying to restrict myself just like the sleeve so I’m only eating Protein and a very small amount at each sitting and drinking a lot a lot of Water. It’s hard because that never full feeling is depressing. It makes food and eating ALL I can think about. I’m trying to occupy my time with other things also

I feel no restriction with this bypass nothing, notta. I miss my sleeve and I am so sad I couldn't keep it, crying as a matter of fact, and all this gas, I have **** myself twice today !!! I keep telling myself everything will be okay and its way early. I feel so alone and helpless . I ate a Chobani yogurt today I made myself go slow but ate the whole thing and felt NOTHING had that been my sleeve 5 days post op it would have only been a few bites and I would have been done.

    SAME!!!!!!

Revisions lose slower. This doesn't have to do anything with bypass.

Hang in there. Find a sustainable way of eating and living and stick with it once you found it. Don't make a difference between "losing mode" and "maintenance mode". Let things level off instead of overhauling your diet again.

Every diet change and change in your exercise routine is stressful, needs time and vigilance to get used to and carries the risk of not being able to stick with it or (when it comes to maintenance) that you might start gaining again.

You’re right. Trying to find a balance

I have no idea how I've lost 90 pounds because Im hungry all the the time and I have been since day 1. I had them check my pouch and i did that swallow test where I had to eat/drink this semi solid Jello like substance and I watched it slide right down into my intestines. So how am I losing weight? I have no idea but for me it's been VERY slow!!

When was your surgery date? I’m down from 300 to 261 and my surgery date was March 9. You’re right it’s been slower than the sleeve for sure.

Same surgery date and have only lost 15! I do not have a lot to lose so I get it, I just thought it would be more when eating 750 high Protein, low fat, low sugar diet. And If I cant lose on a post diet, diet, then what? And yes I exercise.

On a positive note I have had normal blood sugar and off all meds since my first surgery. In 4 years with the sleeve was able to keep most of the weight off.

I think the bigger we are prior to surgery, the more we lost after. And I’m restricting myself as if I had the sleeve lol.

Don't get me wrong but how much weight loss did you expect during this time span? Revisions tend to lose slower. Yes, I can absolutely understand the need to get back down with the weight fast but this is not a matter of weeks as you already know. Expect at least as much time to lose the excess weight this time as you needed before.

And tell these toxic family members of yours that your weight and diet is none of their business. Might need a bit of yelling but it's worth it.

Honestly it’s not about the actual number I’m just afraid to stop losing since it’s a slower process and I’m the one stopping myself after 2-3 bites. And I wish I could tell my family to leave me the hell alone but how can I when they are right? I did fail😔 I have 2 beautiful children from it but to ballon back after I’ve tasted the glory is so depressing.

You don't need to be a hermit because of your weight.

Yes I do. When I lost the weight the first time a lot of negative ppl in my life said I would fail and gain it all back which I did!😢😢😔😔😔 and evening though I cut most ppl out of my life the main ones are my family. I’ve literally been in hiding. I can’t believe they were right.

I cut out all sugar and fat and was very low carbs from day1.

I actually lived off shakes for months and I felt great you have to be committed and focused on your goals you cannot give in to cravings.

What about fruits? I’m addicted to fruits but I think it’s because of its sugar content. Maybe I’ll go back to only shakes too! I was super motivated the first surgery but I’m just so stuck

Hey yes first surgery and we all know the first surgery will be different to someone who had more than 1...

I've gone from 322 to 170lbs in 8 months with bypass and still now some days I'm not even hungry.

    That’s amazing!!!!!!!! Any tips please?

  15. Don’t get me wrong you guys. My revision was done on March 9 and I’ve already lost 35 pounds so I’m happy, it’s just not what I was expecting . I had the perfect sleeve but the pregnancies forced my pouch to spread. The last pregnancy I was on complete bed rest for the entire thing. I guess I’m sad

I've met many ppl who say they didn't lose everything they wanted with the sleeve and it took longer than people on bypass and in my experience this is the first time in my life I've ever lost this much ever and ever got this low on the scale and before surgery every little thing I ate would gain weight and now in maintenance I've had a few treats and it has not affected me weight at all...... The sleeve is really just to limit the volume of food that's about it the bypass rearranges your intestines and changes your metabolism; there's a ton of research to explain the metabolic changes..

I know look skinny and have metabolism of skinny person and I feel amazing!!

If you don’t mind me asking how much was your pre weight? And is the bypass your first surgery?

  17. 18 hours ago, frozengrapes said:

I agree, not having the restriction makes it a lot more difficult. I'm eating less, excercising more, and the weight isn't coming off at all like it did. My metabolism hasn't change, and im more hungry than I was after sleeve. Self control isn't a problem right now, but I know if I do not lose weight it will become a problem.

EXACTLY! With the sleeve the weight literally falls off!! With the bypass it’s no physical stopping. I’m eating like I have the sleeve ( small bites) but the fact that I don’t get the full sensation temps me to snack😢😢 message you all the new sleeve patients : EMBRACE THE RESTRICTION!!!!

  18. 3 hours ago, summerset said:

As a never-sleeve I can only imagine how strong the restriction with a sleeve might be. I went from MGB to RNY and I get uncomfortably full way faster now.

I haven’t pushed myself because I’m a food addict and the feeling of being full/satisfied is like chasing a high at this point but with the sleeve in the beginning I couldn’t eat more than 2-3 small bites. That’s what I need.to tame the beast

  19. 4 hours ago, MsMocie said:

It litteraly does go much faster through you since they have bypassed part of your intestines. I had no idea how fast it actually goes through you until today when I saw with my own eyes on X-ray.

Do you know if they have taken out more of your sack during this round as well as the bypass?

No I don’t know, sweetie but I fought against the restriction with the sleeve in the beginning but I started to understand the signs of being full. With this second surgery I’m literally having to stop myself after a couple bites and my weight loss is much more decreased.

  20. So I had the gastric sleeve done in March 2015. I started at 309 and got to 154 but then had 2 pregnancies that brought me back to 300. Had the bypass March 2020 . Started from 300 and now I’m 271-270. I don’t like this surgery because I no longer get that full sensation and restrictions the sleeve provided. I’m doing as much exercise as quarantine can provide but it’s soooooo much harder this time around 😔😔😔. It’s like the restriction isn’t physical anymore so it has to be physiological which is 100000 times more difficult. I miss eating 2 bites and being full all day to be honest. Now the food literally feels like it goes straight through me 😔😒
