    March 2020 Post-op Thread

I'm not meeting the 64 ozs of hydration goals. I'm halfway there, but I'm getting closer to my protein goals daily. Today, I'm extremely fatigued and feeling kind of lightheaded. Working on increasing the water intake daily, I'm just too full to keep drinking. I've pooped, thankfully. The Prilosec and bariatric vitamins are not that great, but I'm getting it down. Tomorrow if it isn't raining I will go for a walk. I'm tired of liquids, everything on TV shows food. I don't want the foods, it's the point that I'm restricted and that makes everything look good. Earlier this morning, I really wanted a pancake and a piece of Turkey bacon. I had a vanilla Premier shake and moved on. Tomorrow I'm going to get a better schedule for consuming the required fluids and nutrients timely. I'm also going to allow myself to get some sleep. I'm down from 242 to 236, since surgery day. Pajamas are my uniform, my stomach is still bloated and these incisions are itching like CRAZY!!!! Yes, I'm healing and I know these things will be distant memories soon. My new stomach is going to get a name, just haven't given her one yet. She talks, grumbles and rolls to beat of her own drum already and she's a Pisces, born on March 3rd, 3020...lmaooooo.

The swallowing gets better, also try some sugar free throat lozenges. I do have a headache today, I'm fatigued, still bloated and I expect these symptoms. Have a sugar free Popsicle, warm broth and etc to be counted towards your hydration.

    Anyone Have March Surgery Date?😊

Hydrate if you feel inclined to.

I don't put sugar in my tea, I prefer the natural flavor of teas. If you like fruity teas try the peach, berry blends or etc. Peppermint or a mint medley for calming and upset stomachs, pomegranate and white tea (Trader Joe's brand), just to name a few. Starbucks has iced/hot teas ; so does Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Go try a few before you buy anything and see what you like. I also use the Jordan's skinny sugar free syrups (purchae at Ross or Marshall's) in my iced tea to change it up. Hint, a package of Crystal light lemon mixed with it, cuts the aftertaste of the skinny syrup. Play around with it and see what you like. Try yoga on Youtube, free videos. So when you go to the class you can have more practice.

Hot herbal tea soothes me, I drink more of it now to replace wanting to indulge. I'm the tea lady anyways, ppl are always buying me tea. Looking forward to moving on to yoga and learning how to navigate this life.

I had to stop partaking, I was honest with my Bariatric Team and I stopped smoking. It's been awhile and I don't have any desire to resume the habit again. I feel better, breathing is great and I'm learning to cope with anxiety in other ways. I want to maximize the opportunity of the sleeve w/o complications of old behaviors.

    Congrats everyone on the journey.
  8. Another March 3rd here, Cammy C. You've probably gained weight from the IV meds, the gas that was used during your surgery, this is how my surgeon explained the temporary weight gain that would happen. I'm thankful that you are able to hydrate and at normal levels. My experience has been very similar to Mooki's, I was miserable the first 2 days. We've got this together, keep posting and working through the newness of our tools.

    March VSG day four

Hey Mooki, Yes, a surgery twin. How are you feeling? What's your stages for nutrition? I'm on clear liquids until Saturday, Full liquids on Sunday until the 16th and puree on the 17th. My full liquids phase does include cream soups, greek yogurt unsweetened, sugar free pudding, extra thin cream of wheat and all of the clear liquid foods. I'm missing a few items, but you get the concept. I reached half of my hydration/protein goals yesterday. Sipping fluids is a full time job. I'm also utilizing the samples I received from the Obesity Help Conference last October. Unjury has a liquid Chicken Soup with 21 grams of protein and 8 ozs of hot water needed , not to be heated over 140° . Fluids, protein and it taste like cream of chicken soup without the creamy consistency. I appreciate the smell and taste, I would love a cracker with the soup. Lol, but seriously ; I probably only want stuff just because I'm not allowed. We're going to be fine. AJ knows stuff, like soup recipes and etc. I also appreciate that everyone has their own experiences and approach to winning the game against obesity. This is not a one size fits all solution.
  11. Hey post op people...did any of you use a heating pad for incision pain or on your shoulders due to trapped gas? I'm walking and moving, trying to hydrate and resting. I need to alleviate some of the discomfort and pain...I also have gas relief pills that I want to take.

I had vsg the same day as you, perfectly written post. I can totally relate to you right now.

    Bravo....how tall are you?

    Clothes?

I've already purged my closet and I kept what I wanted to keep. I will have to buy clothes, as my size 14 pants were starting to get extra baggy prior to surgery. I have some really nice pieces that'll be altered once I make it to the maintenance phase. My button down shirts will now become shirt dresses, used for layering and I will donate pieces that I don't love. Jeans and work pants will go to women shelters or to my church. I will go to the Goodwill or somewhere very affordable during the rapid weight loss process. I plan on paying it forward. I'm blessed to have this opportunity, even though I'm struggling right now.
  15. I'm only 2 days out of surgery and I don't have patience for BS. I think I'm possessed with gas pains, my commentary is different. I'd prefer to be left alone until this gas passes and the puree phase. I'm mentally exhausted and trying to get a little rest, but I can't because of this gas. I'm going to meditate and try to get my self aligned emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually. This is a lifelong commitment and coping skills need to be developed now...Attitude is everything.

Yes, walking is key and lots of TV to binge on or a really good book. You need to rest as well.

March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!

Hey Mello 1, you are truly awesome to provide updates and etc. I've moved to the couch today, much better. The Bariatric Nurse checked in with me and told me to take the Gas -X. She also recommended the heating Pad, which I started using earlier today. I appreciate it, now for this sore throat, ugh!!! Better than Bullion broth is great, veggie flavor is nice. I'm also consuming more fluids today, thank goodness. I had a few mind trips for the first time while on this journey last night and early hours of the morning. The emotions are real, the mind will tell you that you are hungry, the body is healing (practice patience with yourself), you may weigh more when you first come home ( don't worry about it), we just had a major surgery...Walk that gas out as much as possible, it is deceptive and will mess with your mental. That gas is the devil. I'm also developing a sore throat as mentioned, but I'm going to have to deal with it. We are here and we will see this through, I will be okay. I'm thankful for Bariatric Pal and each of you for understanding the importance of having a positive connection in this community. Life is a struggle and it's good to have a healthy outlet.

    Heating Pad for incision pain

Thank you AJ. I'm moving and the gas is moving slowly. I finally got a mini nap when I used the heating Pad today. I'm burping a little bit.

    March 2020 Post-op Thread

I'm not feeling great, the gas pain and trying to get comfortable is a mess. Mix in the nausea and vomiting, I will see how I feel by Saturday. I have to believe that this is just a few bumps in my road to recovery. Only drank 13 ozs yesterday, I'm going to aim higher today. I'm up and walking also, but I need some sleep as well.

    Need a good LIE

I had surgery yesterday and I'm a private vsg patient. Only a handful of people know and I didn't inform the entire handful that knows about surgery yesterday. I truly feel that it's very intrusive and disrespectful to ask another person about health related issues. Assume what you must about me, I could careless. What can't happen is someone feeling entitled enough to ask another person's personal information. That's just too darn nosey for me. I'm off of work and taking care of myself, the end. I already had to tell my close family that I was having a female related procedure. I just can't with the entitlement with work people and others.

Any upcoming March 2020 Sleevers out there??

Congratulations on your successful surgery. I was yesterday also, I finally made it home. I'm in my bed with my feet elevated, new pajamas and Isopure Protein drink ready for clear liquids on my side table. My incisions are a little annoying, but that's to be expected. Don't cough though, it hurts beyond words, I just found out.

    Tomorrow is the day!!

@Machalo My first walk was last night, it was supervised by the nursing staff. I then was able to walk without staff for my next walks. I had a family member walk with me, 2 laps around each walk after. I was highly medicated and had a serious vomiting episode , this delayed my first walk. You are encouraged to walk as often as you feel like walking. The more you walk, the better you are going to feel. Getting in and out of that hospital bed was a small task, as was getting back i. It. Sip slowly, even if your stomach doesn't like it. Walk slowly, until you are walking at your regular pace. On a side note, has anyone else experienced feeling the water traveling inside your body? Weird feeling and this stomach rumbling, oh my!!!

    Tomorrow is the day!!

I hope you all are recovering from yesterday. I'm waiting to be discharged, missing my bed. Staff has been in my room since 2AM, making rounds, taking blood, giving pain meds, and doing a wonderful job of taking care of me. @biginjapan , I'm very tender as well. You are killing the water game, I've only managed 7 ozs. When I get home, I will really work on my water intake. I had a few intense muscle spasms after taking a baby sip or smaller. We did it, now on to the dedication and hardwork, to live better than ever.

    Too much water at once?

@Tiredmimi you are very fortunate to be nauseous or anything close to it, I envy you. I'm laying here in the hospital after being sleeved yesterday, March 3rd, 2020 and each mili- sip feels crazy going down. I've only managed to consume 2 ozs. of water since yesterday. I've vomited and sleep, got a dose of morphine late last night. I'm still optimistic about this water consumption. I love water as well, so we can't have a complicated relationship. I need water in my life, even if I add Crystal Light at times. Darn, I hope that's an option still. This little angry banana stomach of mines.

    Tomorrow is the day!!

Yes, I'm awake for now. Going back to sleep soon. In some pain and tired of feeling nauseous.
