  1. I did take Celebrex ,for awhile I just suffered and then as i lost weight the pain got better but if I need something I take children s liquid Ibuprofen. My thoughts are its not a pill so it don't sit in my stomach. But my doctor did not say it was OK as I didn't ask him. I know he said no Ibuprofen just Tylenol but it don't work for me.

  2. Personally there is not alot I can not eat except for most breads unless it is toasted.I can eat apples, all berries and most any fruit I chose.Veggies too not found a one I could not eat if I want it.Now meat is hit or miss depending on the time of day,I can even eat steak much to my docs amazement.I really doubt I get in enough of any of them but I supplement what I can.For the most part what I do eat now is better for me than the sweets and fats I was eating before banding.I am not over tight either and I do not want to be so tight my eyes bulge.

  3. I will be the first to say,I really am thankful for Dr.Wizeman.He did not do my surgery but has taken good care of me since I was banded. He has done all my fills and after care and I would not hesitate to recommend him as a surgeon. His staff has been very kind to me even though I had my surgery in TJ,Mexico he took me right from the start and I have been with him a year so if you are looking for a surgeon or after care in South Florida he is the best.

  4. Bamagal - thank you so much for your response! By the amount of weight loss noted on your ticker, you have done really well and I value your advice. I need to get my head out of 'volume eating' mentality - all or nothing, and learn how to eat like 'thin people'. With this band and weekly support & nutrition meetings, I believe I have the tools to succeed.

You are always welcome. Some will say exercise 5 days a week ,eat your Protein,no bread no carbs and if I had done that I may have lost a few more pounds in this years time, but I am sure I would not have been as happy and satisfied with my life.Nor do I feel it is a lifestyle I could maintain after weight loss.I am not on a diet,I am trying to find a way to survive and have a health and happy life.

This year I hope to lose the last 40 pounds but if I don't and I am just able to maintain I will still be happy with myself and all the progress I have made.

  5. Well being suspicious is just my nature so keep that in mind, but sounds to me like he just wants you to pay him for a new band, and I could be wrong.I have had the VG band for a year I have lost most of my weight, took me a few fills to find my just right adjustment level and I have had no issues thus far.My fill doctor uses the new AP bands as well and the only thing he hates about the VG Band is it has a low profile port making it harder to hit when you are very heavy. Now that I have lost 90lbs I am happy to have it as my port don't stick out like some I have seen and I want have to have the port changed out later. So basically I say they all three have pros and cons with the AP small having the best results as it takes less fills to find restriction but those of us with bigger stomachs didn't get that one as it wouldn't fit us.I am sure your surgeon chose what he thought was best for you so I wouldn't stress over it unless it became an issue.

  6. Guys I just want to say to the new bansters and the pre bansters,it is a lifestyle change after being banded but there really is not that many foods you just cant have really. We make better food choices and eat smaller portions 99% of the time, but that other 1% we have what we want and love to eat. Then of course we exercise a little more or cut down somewhere else to allow for a treat every now and then.So my point is there is no reason to say goodbye to food as if you will never eat again. You will be satisfied with less food and will not feel you gave up anything,it will just become normal to eat like thin people.

  7. 50 pounds seems to be the spot most stall.I stalled at about 60 pounds. It took a change in diet, what I mean is change up what you eat and how much you eat,it seems to trick your body back into loosing. If you are doing low card then change to low fat for awhile if you are walking then try to add some weight lifting or dance, swimming just something to make some changes.Just as you get bored I think our body does too.

  8. I am soon having my one year bandiversary ,and I would do it again.I paid for my own and have never regretted it.But just know it is not for everybody,if you think you just get the band and it does all the work you best think again. If you are looking for something you don't have to work hard at maybe you should get the gastric or the sleeve. But if you are willing to do the work then you will not have any regrets.

  9. Hi,

I am really sad, I was on these boards and saw that many of the people that had surgery back in JUNE 08 with me is hitting 85+ lost. I've only lost 44 pounds! I don't know what I am doing wrong. I know that I didn't exercise very much in the begining and now that I've started to regularly. There still isn't much of a difference.

I've only had 3 fills. I think that may be the problem.

I don't over eat, stay away from fried foods, breads, pastas all the fun stuff that got me here. I am just looking for any support I can get.

    I just don't get it.

You have done great now come on,the average is one to two pounds a week and by my calculations that 44 pounds in 8 months is 1.375 pounds a week.So it looks like you are doing great to me.

  10. Yes I have seen that already,he has alot of interesting things to say.Not sure how much most doctors agree with, but it is a theory.I am sure many will not agree as they did neither of the two.I know this one man has slipped twice and was back thinking it had slipped a third time.

I have heard bending over to soon after surgery can cause a slip and also sit ups.My doc told me do not even tie my shoes myself for a month.

  11. I smoked the day of my surgery, the night after and still smoke, the doc was mad when she smelled it on me the day after while she was checking my incisions for swelling. She first told me how great they looked then she smelled the smoke LOL.Then she said I am suppose to tell you smoking will keep you from healing but I already told you how well they look but you should quit anyway and least cut back.Well I did cut back from a pack and a half to a pack a day.

  12. I have 8cc's in my 10cc band.It took that for me to fill restriction and boy was I restricted.Been two months now and it still feels good really it is better the first month was really tough as I was so tight but had no throwing up and could keep down fluids and soft food so doc would not take any out.Now I am glad he didn't I lost 17 pounds in 6 weeks and now it fills just right.

  13. I don't know about the Realize band, but it took me 8 months to find the sweetspot in VG 10cc Lap Band.I have 8cc's now and finally I am loosing like I want to.So I say just try to practice good eating habits, take small bites and chew chew chew because when you get there and you will get there trust me,her stomach may be smaller and it will take awhile like mine to find that spot but when you get there you must be careful how you eat,the band will make you remember the rules fast.I do believe that band as the Lap Band can be adusted past the 9cc if need be.I know people with Lap Band that is over the stated limit.Just be patient mom the next fill may well be the one she has waited for. Maybe this thread will be better for you to read.

  14. Hi everybody,

First time on website but had band since Oct 2007 and have a question I can't find answer too. Only had 1 fill, 6 weeks after surgery, may have been 3.5 or 4 in 10 cc lapband, PA says 3.5 entered on chart, but she can draw out 4. About 6 months ago had chronic cough for 6 weeks, discovered if was reflux, so they took out .65 to see if it resolved. Did great with cough but only lost 4 pds in 6 months, so went back this week to have fill put back. Short story, was too tight, went back and had same amount of unfill Thur after not being to able to eat or drink for 2 days. Questions-has anybody that had overfill and unfill had problems with feeling of food not moving down and chest ache after unfill. I am hoping this is just because of swelling from overfill and vomiting and will only last another day or so, but didn't feel instant relief like I have seen other people post. Good news, I lost 4 pds in 2 days and since I feel like I just got banded am only able to eat a few bites at of time and am sticking to soft foods. Haven't thrown up since unfill, but did have mild reflux during the night and have not had that before ever.

Any time they mess with my band I swell, takes about a week to get back to normal. For the Reflux I use Prilosec OTC works great.

  15. What I quoted was based on this research.Yes I am sure over a period of time you should catch up if you follow a good plan .The research shows the small band loses more weight the first year ,not even in two years does the big band catch up.
