when will my hair stop falling out?????
Jodi_620 replied to patticNJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually get 60-70 G in my three meals (example: eggbeaters with meat and cheese for Breakfast, 1 oz lean meat/veggie (Beans are a great veggie choice)for lunch and dinner). Then I add a 35G per serving Protein shake mid-morning and try to get a 25G protein shot in the evening. 90 G protein per day is usually what is recommended but I just wanted to increase it to 100+ for a while due to my hair loss. -
when will my hair stop falling out?????
Jodi_620 replied to patticNJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The two major causes would be Protein deficiency or Vitamin deficiency. I was told it takes approximately three months of damage to start the onset of hair loss and once you find the solution it takes three months for the hair loss to stop completely. I started losing my hair and upped my protein which was probably the problem and I added Biotin just in case. (Hair, Skin and Nails supplement). I have three protein based meals, a 35G shake and if necessary a 25G protein shot so I am getting around 100 G of protein a day along with 3000MCG of Biotin. I have been doing this for a month or so and the hair loss has definitely slowed down a good amount. I wish I could tell you which of these things helped, probably the protein but either way the biotin is helping with the strength of both my hair and my nails so I will keep up with both. Make sure you are taking a good multi-vitamin too. -
I agree, jbfllorida. I don't think that it was abuse it was just a man "stepping in it" like they sometimes do (like we all sometimes do). If you read his post, it is clear that he didn't mean offense. Men and women think differently that is a simple fact. Two men can poke fun and insult each other all day and come out it just fine but just imply some of those things to a woman and look out! I think most of us women are more sensitive about our weight, especially when it comes to what we think our signifcant other thinks of us.

Your diet is still tough but you are fortunate in that you do get to get some solid food...I could only have liquids and coldn't wait to chew on something again, LOL. Yeah, I agree if you can have a meal and cottage cheese, I would have the cottage cheese in the middle of the day and the meal for dinner, spreading it out seems like it would help a lot and shouldn't hurt your diet in any way, you are still taking in the same amount of calories per day.

10 pounds in two weeks is darn good. You are still in the healing phase and probably have not even had a fill yet. Don't worry, you will see more weight coming off.

Hang in there Patty, you will have those ups and downs, and I know those downs can be so terrible. It got a little easier for me after day 4. Try to get out of the house and away from food as much as possible and stay busy. Drink as much water as you can take in and get that protein in. It is hard but you can do it and in the end will be so proud of yourself!

Even if she qualified for the band, in order to work it would have to be something she wanted for herself. I understand your concern for her health. I agree with MacMadame that with your lifestyle change maybe she will be able to get on a healthier track. Weight is just a very sensitive subject for women and so you guys need to tread VERY lightly when going there! Encourage the healthy lifestyle and the weight loss should follow.

Great to hear that Jetsy! I would still make sure they are aware on the day of surgery... Come to think of it although everyone in the pre-op room came in and seemed quite aware what I was there for, when I was rolled into the operating room there were all kinds of new people helping me slide onto the table, getting my gown untied and situated, getting my arm rests situated, setting up the surgery tools...so many people doing different tasks that it made my head spin :smile2:. Then I remember someone (possibly the anesthesiologist) saying you are Jodi... ,and you are here for Lap Band surgery, is this correct? I just remember thinking it was weird that she was asking that question at this point. So now I know that this is what they call a "time out" .

Yes! my legs cramped and ached sooo bad at night. My surgeon told me to have a little watered down tomato soup once a day to get in some potassium and to drink more water.

I HATE DEALING WITH THE BILLING PART OF THIS! The hospital charged insurance $29,000 for my surgery; now I knew that it would be more than what they charge self-pay but according to my records, self-pay is charged $10,500.00 for hospital, that is a huge difference! I called the hospital and asked for an itemized bill because the bill they send only has "procedure date" and "amount charged." They sent me the itemized bill and a check for $180-something :smile2:...it just says reimbursed overpayment (????) , I am suspicious about this, I hadn't paid the hospital anything yet and neither has insurance so who has overpaid? I haven't cashed the check yet... I waited to see what insurance would say and just got and EOB showing that they will only cover around $18,000 of the $29,000 claim and patient responsibility is around $2,500.00. Now I have to find out what this reimubursement check is all about plus I had to give my surgeon $3,000.00 downpayment at my pre-op visit and I need to know how that payment factors in to all of this. I know that they had also sent a claim to the insurance company $4,000.00 for the surgeon assistant and the insurance company denied that claim (procedure must be performed by and actual doctor). They told me they would just write that off so maybe they foresaw this and that is why they ask for $3,000 up front...who knows! It has all been very confusing, my hospital does not provide decent detail on what they charged. Even the itemized bill is mostly medical codes that mean squat to me. My insurace pays 50% up to $1,000.00 if we find billing errors but the way they bill, it is very hard to keep them honest. Anyway (sorry to hi-jack your thread )--under the supplies heading there was a charge for $9,200 and change which I assumed was the band.

No, it is not in your head. I and others here have noticed that they feel tighter when they get stressed. Some feel tighter during TOM too.

Cancelled fill appointmets
Jodi_620 replied to Jeter2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would definietly try to find another fill doctor. This is very wrong. I would also report this to the insurance company. They are charging insurance for services that they are not even providing, I would think the insurance company would be very interested in this. As a matter of fact, my insurance company will give me 50% (up to $1,000) of any money recovered if I report something like this. -
How long was your leave from work for surgery?
Jodi_620 replied to ksill18's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Surgery Friday took off until the following Thursday, worked 1/2 days Thursday and Friday and back to full time the following Monday. -
Yes, fructose is found naturally in fruits and veggies. But high fructose corn syrup is is a highly processed product made from fructose and 100% corn syrup among other things.

Advice: How may calories do you typically have per day?
Jodi_620 replied to Marienola's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was not really given a calorie level. The calorie amount would be individual (depending on your activity level, your current weight, your metabolism, etc.). I am just supposed to eat when I am hungry and stop when I am satisfied. If I am not losing weight by following the rules then I am eating too much and I get a fill. I eat around 900-1000 calories when I am where I want to be with weight loss and restriction. -
Just a crazy food question
Jodi_620 replied to Jillbeme65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am experiencing the opposite. Pre-banding I used to gulp milk down all the time. We would go through a least a gallon a week. Now I have not bough milk in weeks because even a quart will go bad before it even gets half used. I stop by 7-Eleven to get single serve bottles when I need it. -

Just a crazy food question
Jodi_620 replied to Jillbeme65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am one of the ones that just does not stay as full on cereal. I watch sugars and carbs too so most cereals just aren't the best choice for me. I do have oatmeal when I am on mushies after a fill. If I get hungry I eat Kashi dry as a snack (sometimes with just a little peanut butter)...it is really high in protein but I think it gets too soggy in milk -
I guess it all depends, I have UHC with a BMI just over 40/no co-morbities and I was approved within a week with no hoops to jump through. I actually switched from BCBS because my policy wouldn't cover the surgery...

I don't disagree that education should be available and affordable but we need to be careful on how we provide that education. I grew up in a low income area. Many of the people in my hometown are hard working but struggle and have needed welfare from time to time, my mother included. But several are also career welfare. I don't think there is anything wrong with welfare helping people until they can make it on their own but it is not meant to be a lifetime situation. There are many examples in my hometown but one comes to mind after reading your idea of making college more financially available. This couple has had seven children and raised them all on welfare. Like many others, he knows how to work the system and gets heating assistance, utility discounts, housing, a car to get back and forth appointments and five of his seven children got to go to college on Welfares dime. Four of those five children have finished college, none are working, one is a drug addict and a thief, the others all have multiple children and are on welfare likely to be carreer welfare just like their parents. One daughter grew up with my sister, both wanted to be teachers my sister is now teaching at a college and paying off her loans herself because my mom couldn't pay for her college. Meanwhile her friend had a welfare paid education and is on her fifth child while living off welfare. Those are the types of welfare people I have a problem with.

Denied because of psych eval... why?
Jodi_620 replied to kaytiebugs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bascially if you were to have psychological issues that would keep you from being a good candidate for Lap Band, then you would be denied. You really should answer the questions honestly. They know that there are some "well duh!" questions in there. When answered correctly they can get a pretty accurate idea of your personality and your weaknesses, so not only can they determine that you are mentally able to handle Lap Band, they can help you identify weaknesses that might make your journey more difficult. I was told that they can tell if you were not honest and you could be denied surgery or have to take the test over if you are not...not sure if that is a scare tactic or not. -
